Story
Hi! My name is Barkley and I am from Missouri. I am about 10 years old and am a Bichin Frise! I am a little shy, but a whole lotta sweet, and I am curious and want to be loved. To top it off, I sure am cute, and I am the perfect age of 10 years old! From her foster: Barkley, nicknamed Georgie due to her curiosity, is a very sweet and very shy little girl. She loves other dogs, but avoids all human contact so far. Her curiosity gets the best of her though, so she follows me around the house at a distance and seems happy to be just talked to. Her house training is coming along. She seems to know that outside is the place, but doesn't give signals yet, so we try to get her outside on a schedule. It helps to have a companion dog to see what to do. So far, she is not walking on a leash (seems afraid of it) or comfortable with steps, so we carry her outside and back in. Given a choice, she avoids any kind of crate or kennel (the only times she barks is when she is kenneled); just prefers a soft blanket in the corner of a room so she can watch her foster sibling play. She does seem to like being in a doggie stroller, too, so she can go for long rides while we do our walks. She really is the sweetest little thing; she just needs lots of time, lots of quiet space, and lots of patience and love so she can learn to trust humans. She is likely a flight risk due to her fear of humans; a fenced yard and/or double leashing with a harness is needed.

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.  Keep checking back for upcoming events I will be attending!       DOB: 12/07/2022 Requires another dog in home: Yes, another well-balanced dog is required Okay with dogs of all sizes: Yes Okay with cats: Unknown Okay with children under 12 years old: No Weight: 10 pounds Food Fed: Solid Gold Requires a fenced yard:  Yes, required Note: dogs must always be leashed whenever outside of a contained area. Invisible/ underground fencing is not recommended for most rescue dogs. Hi, my name is Corbin and I am a very shy and timid young guy that is ready to find my forever people with patience, toys and lots of love to help me be the best I can be! I’m very afraid of being touched by humans but I do love them.  Over the past few months, foster mom has been working with me on getting used to touch. She can now hold me and put me in her lap and I know I am safe.  I give her smiles and tail wags.  I’ve been brave enough to lick my foster mom’s hand but I’ll run away if you try to hold me or pick me up.  that whole picking me up thing makes me nervous and I panic, but I do enjoy gentle scratches.  With time, lots of patience and love, I’ll get there.  I’m getting a little better every day but when things are scary, they’re really scary! You have to understand that I likely have never been in a loving home so sounds like the TV, clanking dishes, the horrible vacuum and lots of commotion might make me a little worried. I have shown foster mom that I do have some puppy antics in me, hee hee! I like to play with soft toys, run around the yard and wrestle with the other dogs in my foster home. So, it’ll be important that I have a good doggy role model in my forever home to help me learn that touch isn’t scary and keep learning. A social, well-balanced and confident dog is required. This means that my buddy will need to show me humans are safe, how to get on a potty routine and teach me which toys are the best! My fur-brother and the other dogs in my foster home have been amazing teachers! I am still working on my dog skills like potty training. We go outside on a routine, but I will still need of practice in my forever home. Foster mom wants to let you know that I am smart – I already know what “go potty” means! We tried kennel training, and oh boy, I will tell you how much I don’t like it! Bark bark! Foster mom uses gates for the dogs when she isn’t home. I also bark at her when she comes home – maybe I’m telling you I’m glad you’re home, or maybe I’m filling you in on what happened when you were away!  Also, a fenced yard is required as I don’t have a leash or tie-out experience. This is very important for potty training too. My foster mom said I’m fun, adorable, learns quickly and likes to play with other dogs and that I play hard!  Oh and that I have a wonderful appetite! I will let you know with a bark bark that I am excited for dinner! I’m just an overall, very happy dog who loves the feel of the sun on my face when I’m sitting outside, other dogs and treats.  All I need now is a forever home with lots of patience, unconditional love and a family that will help me be the best I can be! Foster mom says that with time I will learn to trust – we are taking baby steps. Will you take those baby steps with me? Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders.  Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.    Hi there, I’m Dwight, a fluffy little BichonPoo with a big heart and a zest for life! At just a year old and 14 pounds, I’m still learning the ropes but making big strides every day. My foster mom says I’m cuddly, and I have to agree—I love resting my head on her shoulder whenever I get the chance. Once I learn you are someone I can trust, we can be friends. My favorite things? Walks, treats, and romping around with my foster sister! I’m pretty polite with other dogs we meet on walks, and though I can be shy with people at first, I’m working on it. My confidence is building, especially when I’m with a calm, friendly dog I can follow. I do require another confident and social dog in my forever home so I can continue learning all the important dogs things, including trusting people. I’m learning a lot in my foster home. We are working on “Come” and “Down.” I’m doing great with potty training on a schedule and can even use a potty pad if needed. I’m not really into crates, but I do well on a leash—even if I get a bit excited sometimes and pull a little. When I'm outside, I need to be on a leash for extra safety, but I'm getting better at coming back from the fenced yard into the house without any trouble. I'm a great eater and a bit mischievous, which adds to my charm. In the mornings, I love to wake up my foster parent by licking their ear—I'm such a sweetheart! A calm home with gentle, understanding people would be perfect for me, especially if there’s another dog my size to help me feel secure. Oh, and I do best when things aren’t too loud or chaotic. I’ll bark if other dogs pass by our yard, but just a gentle reminder, and I’ll quiet down. So, if you’re looking for a lovable and shy guy with a big heart and a curious spirit, I think we’d make a pretty great team! With patience and love, I'll continue to grow more confident. I'm a wonderful dog who just needs a little extra time and care to fully blossom.   * Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Story
Location: Minneapolis, MN Eddie is a sweet little guy who is learning how to be a dog after spending his whole life in a puppy mill. He is a 10-year-old male Bichon/Bichon mix. He loves other dogs and would do best in a home with at least one other dog that can show him the ropes. He is currently working on potty training and learning how to use stairs. Eddie is terrified of leashes, so he needs a fenced-in yard to run around in. Mill dogs require a little extra patience as they learn to navigate life on the outside, but it is so rewarding to see them learn and experience new things. Eddie is looking for a home where he can spend his golden years living the good life. --------------- The best way to show interest in an animal is to submit an adoption application by visiting our website (www.rescuenetworkmn.org). Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, heartworm test (dogs), FIV/FeLV test (cats), dewormed, and microchip implant (including registration). Rescue Network is strictly foster based which means all adoptable animals are in a home and there cannot be a meet until an application is submitted and approved. We have no way of knowing the breeds in the animals. All breeds listed are best guess.

Story
Every minute matters when it comes to rescuing a Shih Tzu.  We may get a short notice that someone needs to surrender their dog or a puppy mill dog needs a temporary home. We can’t help if we don’t have families willing to foster, and we are always in need of more foster homes! If you live in the Minneapolis/Saint Paul area and want to help save lives, please complete either our online Foster Sign-Up or download a word version here: http://www.northstarshihtzurescue.org/foster/ (please note: neither dog pictured are available to foster or adopt, both are in their forever homes) NorthStar Shih Tzu Rescue exists to benefit both Shih Tzu and Shih Tzu blend dogs and the people of our community. We operate as a no-kill rescue that provides rescue and adoption services, and meaningful outreach programs in order to advance the welfare of these companion animals, to serve and educate our community, and to make a positive, loving impact on the lives of both. NorthStar, located in Excelsior, MN, actively works to rescue Shih Tzu and Shih Tzu blend dogs from dangerous environments and shelters with the ultimate goal of placing them in loving, permanent, adoptive homes. We rescue unwanted, abandoned, and abused dogs. We have them vaccinated, micro-chipped, spayed or neutered, provide other medical care, and rehabilitate them in carefully selected foster homes. We also serve as a resource to our community and all pet owners by providing education and information on the benefits of adopting an animal in need as well as responsible pet ownership, including the importance of spay/neuter, good nutrition, and positive behavior training. We strive to increase public awareness about companion animal overpopulation, commercial breeders, and to offer solutions to end the killing of adoptable animals. We work in alliance with local animal shelters, pounds, other rescue groups, and humane society organizations to ensure these animals are not forgotten. Story
Sadie is 5 years old and weighs 11 lbs. She is white and red in color. Sadie is up to date on vaccines and is spayed and just recently had a dental and just finished all her meds.   She has been dealing with alopecia, but it is under control and now has no hair loss.  You will need to continue giving her Omega 3 and a healthy diet.  If there’s a reoccurrence of hair loss she may need to see a vet dermatologist. Sadie is a sweet little girl.  She’s very loving and scared at the same time as she came from a mill.  She snuggles up to her foster at bed time and needs to be close. She gets along with her pups and isn’t aggressive at all.   Her personality is just now coming out, she gets so excited when she sees her foster  and when it’s time to eat and at snack time.   When she wags her tail her whole bottom wiggles, so cute.     She will follow you around when outside and keep a close eye on you.  Sadie isn’t fully house trained, she loves to mark, but since her spay, it has reduced.  In the house we still use doggy diapers.  She’s still learning the word NO.  More training will be required, along with leash training.   She loves to be called a good girl. She gobbles her food, and tends to throw it up afterwards, so until she slows down on her own, she will need a Slow-Feed Dog Bowl.   The perfect home for Sadie;      Someone who will enjoy her as much as she will enjoy you.  Preferably someone who is home a lot.  No small children but older is fine.   An established dog in home to help teach her how to continue to be a dog.  She watches her fosters dogs and catches on fast, but she is still adjusting to a home and humans.    A calm home is best.  She loves to sleep in bed, a crate is not recommended     Sadie will feel more comfortable sleeping in your bed.  She doesn’t like to be alone.  We have enjoyed and love fostering her.     If you think Sadie might be the perfect fit for you, please apply!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 1, 2024, 5:42 pm
