Azul came into the rescue with his brother, Rojo and is as cute as can be! Azul is very snuggly and loves to cuddle. Azul would benefit from another dog in the home to help show him the expectations and routine and also boost his confidence and socialization. While he doesn't currently live in a home with children, his foster mom thinks he'd be a candidate for a home with children. Azul would love to find a lap to snuggle on and is hopeful that it's you! Say hello to beautiful Opal! This sweet girl is about 9 years old. She’s a rescued puppy mill mama Bichon. Like so very many of these so-called breeder releases (i.e. no longer producing sellable puppies so no longer of any value to the business operators) she is extremely timid and unsure of life outside of a locked box. She does not trust humans - and I don`t blame her one little bit. After many months in her foster home, she has made progress, but that progress is always guarded and often accompanied by a swift return to where she was before the progress (she`s a one step forward, two steps back kind of gal). She watches my every move with curiosity/suspicion, lol. She likes to be near the me and the pack when I`m home but doesn`t necessarily want to cuddle in with us. She`s more of a `I`ll be over here watching you, but you can reach over and pet me if you want,` type of pup. She does get excited when I get home from work and will sometimes do zoomies in the yard with the big boys, but she doesn`t want me bursting her fun bubble by trying to get too close. I have built trust with her to the point where she wants to be by me, wants me to pet her, lets me do anything I need to do with her (besides go for a walk), but she is usually still nervous during it all. Heartwarming are the times when she is truly relaxed and enjoying some love from me - those times are slowly building in frequency. Love and patience are paying off. She must have a fenced-in yard at her new home as a leash isn’t an option for this sweetheart. She is going to need time and lots of patient, unconditional love and support to transition into a new life. Carolina is as sweet as can be! She truly didn't let whatever her life looked like before entering our rescue destroy her trust. She is an estimated 3-4 year old girl who came in with some of our other commercial breeder release mama's. She has been settling in her foster home with the help of her foster parents and even foster siblings who came from the same situation. Things to note about Carolina: She truly loves to be by people. She is meant to be your quiet shadow and loves being held. She has met different people, children and dogs and has done well in al areas! This is the first time that she has lived in a home so she is still working on potty training but is making progress. Continuing building a schedule will be key! She is working on crate training however it does not seem like that is her favorite place to be. Carolina's adoption fee includes her spay, up to date vaccines and preventatives, heartworm test (negative) and microchip. Meet Penny Penny is a purebred Shih Tzu who joined us in July after being found laying on a sidewalk in Chicago earlier in the summer during a heatwave. She was heatstroke and very dehydrated; a good Samaritan took her to the ER for immediate care. With fluids and support care, Penny recovered and was taken to Chicago Animal Control where she sat, until we took her into our Rescue. Penny is a sweet little pup, estimated to be 2-3 years old, and just 11 lbs. She has somewhat of a unique personality, for a young pup. She’s very mellow and is a bit of a loner. While fine with other dogs, she is not really interested in playing with them. That said, she may prefer to be an only dog but we do expect her to evolve into her true self, once she settles into her forever home with her forever family. Penny is fully vetted, heartworm negative and on year-round prevention, spayed and microchipped. She is reported to be housebroken as well.
