Story
This beautiful soul has been on an incredible journey, enduring a challenging stay at the shelter, waiting and hoping for a loving forever home. Despite his stunning looks and heartwarming personality, Apollo remained overlooked for months. He's a dog who's seen the worst of it yet still holds onto hope and love. Finally liberated from the confines of the shelter, Apollo's enthusiasm for life knows no bounds. His heart is filled with joy, and he's ready to share that boundless affection with a family who sees the gem he truly is. Apollo's a big boy with an even bigger heart. He adores the company of other dogs and revels in playtime. However, he thrives on structure, guidance, and plenty of activity. Smart as a whip, Apollo's intelligence and quick learning skills will astound you. This sweet boy, at around 3 years old and weighing between 60-65lbs, deserves a home that matches his spirit—a place with experienced, loving humans who understand the needs of a larger dog like him. Living in Houston, Apollo has bravely battled heartworm, a common challenge in these parts. But fear not, Scout’s Honor is ensuring Apollo receives the best care. Whether you choose to adopt him now or after he's cleared, we'll continue covering his medical expenses, ensuring he gets the care he needs. He's a fighter and with your support, he'll come out stronger than ever. If your heart swells at the thought of giving Apollo the home he dreams of, please consider fostering or adopting him. Start the journey by filling out an application at www.scoutshonor.org. Your love and compassion could be the key to unlocking Apollo's happily ever after. Story
Hannah was saved back in March. Her owners decided one day they didn’t want her anymore, so they locked her out of her yard and replaced her with a new puppy. Hannah’s life continued to get worse from there. While living as an unwanted dog, she was shot at, and the bullet is still in her hip. She was also hit by a car at some point and has some old fractures in her back end that healed incorrectly but are too old to repair. She struggled gaining weight for a while. A vet trip for what we thought was a UTI ended up in her being diagnosed with diabetes. Her diabetes journey has not been easy, and recently resulted in an ER trip for nearing DKA (diabetic ketoacidosis, a life-threatening condition that can occur when blood sugar levels become too high and there is not enough insulin to control them). Fortunately, after having the ER stabilize her and take over her care, she’s been making steady improvements. Hannah is dog & cat friendly. She loves to go on walks, is good on a leash and loves car rides. She fears thunderstorms/fireworks. She wants to be with her human all the time and loves belly rubs. She is more on the dominant side. On occasion she will engage in play with other dogs. She is good using a doggy door except when her numbers are high (frequent urination can be common in diabetic dogs). As far as the bullet and bad hip, you’d never even know that something is wrong. She runs and jumps very well and doesn’t show any signs of pain. Hannah is a very sweet girl that just wants love. She loves to snuggle up on the couch/bed and is also good with children!
