I would love to introduce you to little Bella! A gorgeous classic black tabby with fur that will remind you of silk and picturesque green eyes and although we are unable to confirm her parentage, we see Bengal breed characteristics and think beautiful Bella is a Bengal mix. Coming into rescue, Bella was naturally very scared and shy. It’s a completely new world for her to be loved and cared for but slowly she has recognized that being loved is a good thing! This past month Bella has really started to come out of her shell and not only enjoys affection and attention but demands it! Her communication skills are spot on and enjoys a good conversation with you. Pets and brushing are among the things highest on her loves list and while shes not yet an official lap cat, she does like to be close to you. Bella is FIV+ and although FIV is a lifetime diagnosis, she can easily live a long normal life with a few minor adjustments. Cats with FIV must live indoors and can happily live with other indoor, non-aggressive cats. Regular vaccinations, and treatment for fleas, mites, and worms are also important, so a yearly checkup is crucial to this loving girl. She recently had a checkup with our veterinarian and noted no health concerns. We think Bella would do best in a calm quiet home as either an only cat or with another gentle non-aggressive kittyn. Raji and Lakshmi are basically indoor cats that have never been outdoors without 100% supervision. Taking Raji for walks and access to an outdoor Catio enclosure would be a plus for them. They've never been around dogs so we don't know how they would respond. Perhaps a laid back cat friendly dog would be okay. Meet Gene, an absolutely stunning 6 yr old male Bengal. Known for his striking leopard-like coat, Gene is both a beauty and a source of immense joy. Every rescue is a story. This is part of the fascination of being in the rescue world. This young Bengal girl's story is a fairly unhappy story. Her breeder was trying for a different coat pattern and didn't like her look. Her unusual, dramatic dark coat pattern is call "Sheeted Marble". The breeder neglected her. He sold her at five months to a loving but inexperienced family who really didn't know how to be with her. The wife especially loved her. They got her spayed and she had free run in their home and was comfortable with the couple but she was wary of most people. Then a teenage child - from a previous divorce ? - came to live with them. She was highly allergic to Katrina.What to do? Long story short Katrina spent five months locked in a guest bathroom. The window was frosted. There was very little to do, very little company, very little room. Her mom tried to find a home for her. Someone recommended me to her. I was interested in Katrina but I was concerned about her temperament. I went with two kitty lovers to meet her. My friend sat in the cramped space on the floor and reached into her cubby and petted her head, her neck and even her paws! "She is not aggressive at all" she said. "This kitty is just scared." We took her into foster with us and home we went. We have had her now two and a half months. She came in depressed and remote. Very still. We gave her a room connected to a private catio. She didn't go out. So we waited. She ate and used her box. We know how resilient cats are. They recover from worse situations than Katrina had been in. (Though five months of isolation is a very long time for a young active girl.) Fairly soon she began to relate to us and started enjoying her life as a cat. And what a pleasure it was for us to watch her respond to attention and start showing her wonderful Bengal curiosity, playfulness and agility The photo's show how expressive her face is -sometimes interested, other times sad, or appealing, or confident and strong, or happy blissed out with a scritch under her chin. Her intelligence shows on her face. Katrina is a great cat. She is affectionate with people who she knows. She is shy with others. Katrina will blossom even more in her new home as she bonds with her own humans. Her family needs to be loving and patient with her. Millie and Mac MUST be adopted together. There are NO exceptions. Adoption Fee: $550 for the pair Every rescue of a kitty is a story. This story begins with a call from a cat loving shelter worker. She said we have a Bengal and a red tabby Domestic here who are so sweetly bonded together and I am afraid they will be separated. She sent a photo which you can see below. I said Hmmmm that looks like a Savannah cat to me. Then I noticed that the "red tabby" had a tail that matched unusual bandings of the other cat but in red. Curious. I Googled "Red Savannah" and found to my surprise that Savannahs also come in red. These cats, Millie and Mac, turned out to be chipped and from that we learned their names and ages and breeds - both are Savannahs. Their family could not keep them due to age and medical troubles. So how great we can keep these two best friends together. Millie at 2 is the younger one. She is the adventurer, the social director, friendly to all. Lean and svelte she is all muscle. Mac is 3 and quite a bit bigger. He is the poet and dreamer of the two. He is slower to trust new people. When he accepts you then he shows you his tender gentle sweetness. We haven't had them long, only a month, and already he has decided to come out of his hiding cat bed so we can see what a great boy he is. These two are such an unusual pair. Savannah cats are not good apartment dwellers, they need space to play and climb. Their home needs to provide them with lots of stimulation and entertainment. Climbing trees and windows are great. They love hanging out in catios. Many can be harness trained. They are unusually loyal to their chosen humans and bond very deeply. They are as small and friendly as a house cat but still have some characteristics of their larger jungle ancestors. For the right home this relationship they offer is fascinating. Choosing a Savannah, like choosing a Bengal, is a life style choice. These are not sleep on the couch kitties. Their new family needs to be willing to adjust their lifestyle to their special kitties. These two are not interested in other cats. I have no idea how they would be with dogs except Millie would be in charge. Millie and Mac eat wet and dry food and are litterbox perfect.
