Story
Max is a wonderful, well-rounded boy who is ready to find a loving home where he can thrive. After spending four years with his previous family, he’s now looking for a fresh start due to changes in their living situation—and he’s bringing so much love, personality, and training with him! Max is an easygoing companion who walks nicely on leash, enjoying time to stop and sniff along the way. He’s gentle when taking treats, loves staying close to his people, and already knows an impressive list of commands including sit, down, stay, wait, place, heel, drop it, and leave it. His intelligence and eagerness to engage make him a joy to work with and a great candidate for continued training and bonding. This playful boy absolutely loves toys—especially tennis balls! He’s happiest when playing fetch, chewing on a favorite toy, or exploring the outdoors. Max also enjoys enrichment like puzzle toys and Kongs, keeping both his body and mind active. While he may be a little shy when first meeting new people, Max warms up quickly and shows his affectionate, wiggly side—he even loves belly rubs once he feels comfortable. He has lived with adults and young children and has shown he can be a gentle and loving companion in the home. Max is crate trained and used to a home environment, and while he may need a little support with house training, he’s already familiar with routines like using puppy pads. With consistency and patience, he’s sure to settle in beautifully. If you’re looking for a smart, playful, and loyal companion who will keep you active and make you smile every day, Max might just be your perfect match. He’s ready to be someone’s best friend—could it be you? Behavior Notes: Per staff 4/8/26: Kennel Presentation: At the front of the kennel with soft eyes, ears to the side, loose body and mid tail not moving. Took a treat gently through the bars. Leash Skills: Easy to leash and came out of kennel without hesitation. Stopped a few times as we were walking through the kennels to sniff. Minimally pulls on leash, occasionally stops to sniff. Soft eyes, ears to the side and mid tail up in natural position (curled). Sociability: Allowed gentle petting and stayed close when I stopped petting. Takes treats gently, knows sit and down. Play: Loved the tennis ball! Would chase it and bring it back then lay down chewing on it. When I offered a treat he dropped the ball and let me toss it again. Dog Interaction: He saw dogs in the distance and he was whining with mid loose tail and soft eyes. Return to Kennel: Walked right into his kennel and removed leash with hand. Color Level: Gold Per staff 4/7/26: Was shy and avoidant at first when I approached crate to leash. After presenting hot dogs he willing came forward. During his exam he was wiggly, solicited belly rubs, and pets. Sweet boy! Allowed all handling. Knows "Sit" and "Down" Per owner 4/4/26: Surrendered by owner of 4 years due to moving and housing issues along with not having enough time for Max due to a new baby in the home. "He’s a wonderful pet and will love to get rehome to someone who will treat him better then I am right now." He lived with adults, babies, and toddlers. They described him as not being housebroken but noted that he will use puppy pads, is fully crate trained, high energy, pulls a little on leash, no behavioral issues, and enjoys beef bones. Is fearful with strangers and neutral with children. He knows his name, sit, down, lay down, no, off, stay, wait, place, heel, drop it, and leave it.
