Story
Name: Annie OakleyBreed: German Shepherd mixAge: 4 yrsGender: feWgt/Hgt: 55 lbs / 22 inches Highlights: playful, tripaw, joyful, very affectionate, independent, low exercise needs - no walking needed Energy level: low Relations: great with dogs once comfortable with them, good with kids, not good with cats  Hi everyone, my name is Annie Oakley. I am a beautiful and very happy girl, but that hasn't always been true for me. I used to live in the Middle East where at the very tender age of eight months I became pregnant. I was much too young to become a mother and all my puppies died. In addition, my rear leg had been badly damaged, probably from being hit by a car. In the country I came from, dogs are considered vermin and people often deliberately hit us with their cars in attempts to kill us. My wounds became badly infected and I was in terrible pain by the time I was finally rescued. By the time I was taken to a veterinarian, my leg needed to be amputated. Despite this I am very mobile and can easily climb stairs. I can't go on long hikes but normal length walks are perfect for me.  I am a very loving and affectionate girl who has a real love of life. I enjoy the company of other dogs, once I trust them. I currently live happily with several dogs of all sizes. It can take a few visits for me to feel safe with other dogs for me to let my guard down with other dogs. Given this, it could potentially be difficult for a prospective adopter to take the necessary time I require to become familiar with their dog-- so a home without another dog is best for me. I am happy being the only dog in the home as my true love is people. I have the cutest habit of splaying my front legs out wide when I want you to play with me. And if you pet me and stop and I want some more, I will wrap my front legs around yours to "trap" you and keep you with me. Adorable, right?! I am a really easy dog to care for, and to love. I very much enjoy being outside, so a fenced yard is important to me. In fact, I don't even need or want to go on walks. Because of my missing rear leg, I often find walking too strenuous and much prefer hanging out with my person inside the home or outside in the yard. A covered deck for me to hang out on, watching birds and squirrels, is essential for me. While I am a joyful soul, I am not at all hyper or high energy. At home I am very calm and relaxed. Layin on my bed chewing on a marrow bone or a chew stick is one of my favourite pasttimes! There is no way you could be unhappy with me around.  I am spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. My adoption fee is $600 plus applicable taxes* Disclaimer: It is important for all applicants to visit our website, http://www.lovedatlastdogrescue.ca/adopting/ and read about Loved at Last Dog Rescue.Information included in the profile is provided to us from the international rescuer or local fosters. LALDR does not have access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of their descriptions. Every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person adopting them and the environment in which they live. Please Note: LALDR highly encourages adopters to research some local dog trainers before their dog arrives. Although a 1-on-1 trainer is often not needed, it is good to have someone in mind in case any problematic behaviours arise. Most bad behaviours can be modified if caught early enough, so make sure to nip undesirable behaviours in the bud before they become serious problems.Basic training should be taken seriously, but should not begin until your dog is well settled in - at least a couple of weeks. After you feel your new dog is relaxed and comfortable in their new home, check out training courses in your local area. Even basic beginner courses like those taught at a local pet store can have a huge benefit in helping your dog learn to socialize and get used to being in public situations, all with the added benefit of strengthening their bond with you. While most dogs find escorting passengers flying directly to Vancouver, some will find flights through Toronto or  Montreal. In that case, additional fees will apply to fly your dog to Vancouver by cargo. Unaccompanied cargo costs within Canada range from $350 - $550 depending on the size of the dog. LALDR will be as transparent as possible with you regarding these costs. The age and breed of a dog is usually an educated guess, so we are not able to guarantee the accuracy of age or breed of our dogs. Normally, we will not approve adoptions to homes with children under 12 years of age. However if a dog has been determined to be good with children we will approve applicants with children 8 years or older. More information can be found on our website. Vaccinations: Dogs from the Middle East are vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper, leptospirosis, adenovirus type 1 and para-influenza. Bordatella is not given, as that has not been a problem in the Middle East. ##951485##

Story
Meet Roma - a sweet and stunning girl looking for her forever home Roma was born in Guadalajara, Mexico. For the first year of her life, things seemed to be going wonderfully for Roma - she had a home, a family and a hopeful future ahead of her. But because Roma's family did not have her spayed, she became pregnant. Her family did not want to deal with a litter of puppies so they dumped Roma on the streets.  Roma gave birth alone on the streets. Despite the challenging circumstances, she took amazing care of her babies. The pups were growing and thriving. But one day, a local in the neighborhood took Roma's pups. We're not sure why he snatched the puppies or what he did with them, but Roma stayed in the same spot for days, waiting for her babies to come back. When our rescue partners became aware of Roma's situation, they brought Roma to safety.  Since then, Roma has been living with a foster family in Guadalajara. She is now about 2 years old, fully grown at 65 lbs. Roma is smart as a whip - she impressed her fosters with how quickly she learned basic commands, house training, leash walking, and riding in the car. True to her breed, Roma is intelligent, attentive and obedient, making training an enjoyable experience! She's also incredibly loving and affectionate, which makes her a perfect family pet. Roma is wonderful with children and will be a lovely addition to a home with kiddos.  When it comes to other dogs, Roma fits in easily with canine friends. She is accustomed to sharing her home and space with other dogs. She does not guard her food or toys. Roma isn't a huge fan of cats, so no kitty siblings for this girl please. Being a young, active dog, Roma loves outdoor adventures and playtime. While she can certainly relax at home with her people or bask in the sun on the patio, she is also a perfect outdoor companion for someone who enjoys being active.  Roma is ready to find her forever home, where she will bring a lifetime of love and joy to her new family! VETTING: Fully vaccinated. Spayed Dewormed. SNAP 4Dx negative (Heartworm, Lyme disease, Ehrlichia, and Anaplasma). Flea/tick/heartworm prevention. No known medical issues or injuries. PLEASE NOTE: Roma is currently in Mexico. There will be a $235 fee for transportation to BC. This will be discussed upon approval. ##2287187##

Story
Hellooo friends! My name is MELLY and here is some info about me: PHYSICAL INFO: Breed:  Belgian Shepherd/Black Lab mix  Age:  Approx. 1 year Gender:  Female Weight:  39.6 lbs (18 kg)  Height: 50 cm (paws to top of my head) Length:  60cm (head to butt) Current Location:  Mexico City RESCUE STORY - I was rescued as a tiny puppy on Nov. 26, 2023 in southern Mexico City. My rescuer found me all alone, dangerously close to a high-speed highway. It was a scary place for such a little pup like me! Luckily, I was in good health, and after getting my puppy vaccines and deworming, I settled into the shelter, where the other dogs welcomed me with open paws. Now, I'm looking for a forever home where I can feel safe and loved! Could it be with you? TEMPERAMENT - I may look like an energetic adventurer, but deep down, I'm a gentle and laid-back soul. I'm a little shy at first (as you can see here), but once I feel comfortable, I’ll be your most loyal and loving companion. Instead of rough play, I prefer soaking up the sun, chewing on my favorite dog toys (or yummy treats - video), and enjoying peaceful moments by your side. I warm up to new people at my own pace, and once I do, I fit right in! I've proven to be well-behaved in many situations—I’ve had great manners at the vet, during baths, and even in front of the camera (yes, I’m quite the model!). Car rides? No problem! At the shelter, I happily share my space with two female dogs, and we get along great. I haven't met any cats yet, so I'm not sure how I'd react, but I'm always open to new experiences!  I may have had a rough start, but I know my happiest days are ahead—with you! If you’re looking for a loyal, gentle, and loving companion, I could be the perfect match for you! ENERGY LEVEL - Medium - For a young shepherd, my energy level is on the lower side of medium. I'm an old soul who is just happy to chillax. Don't get me wrong, I love a good walk and would absolutely adore going for adventures in the beautiful Pacific North West, but once I've had my daily exercise, I'm happy to snooze and cuddle! Same with all doggos, I need an appropriate amount of mental and physical exercise in order to be my best self! GETS ALONG WITH: Kids – Yes, but no video of my encounters yet. I am pretty gentle for a puppy, but it's important to remember that I'm a puppy and I can nip and jump up in excitement.  same with ALL dogs, I should be supervised around children. My humans need to advocate for my space and make sure I'm respected :)  Dogs –  Yes! I get along well with the other dogs at the shelter. Check out these videos here and here.  Cats – Unknown. PREY DRIVE - Unknown. I’m not too sure how I’ll react around squirrels/rabbits etc., so my adopter needs to be prepared and willing to train me through these behaviours, should they arise. TRAINING: Leash skills – I’m still learning to walk on a leash, but I promise I’m giving it my best effort! You can see in my videos (here and here) that my leash skills are currently a bit of a hot mess (my rescuer says I'm "free spirited", hehe), but my rescuer is working hard to help me improve these skills. With a little patience and guidance, I'll be walking by your side in no time! House trained – Work in progress. Frequent potty breaks and lots of positive reinforcement will help me learn good habits in my forever home. Crate trained – Not yet. I will need some training and patience with this.  Please Note: WCP highly encourages adopters to do some research and training on their own before their dog arrives.  HEALTH NOTES: I am spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. I will come to Canada with proof of all my vaccines and test records. I will be tested for Heartworm etc. before flying North. My teeth will be cleaned before I travel North! NOTE: It is not uncommon for rescue dogs to require dental work after they are adopted. West Coast Paws does not cover the costs of dental work and/or vet visits. These costs are the financial responsibility of the adopter.  ADOPTION FEE: My adoption fee is $840.00 CAD including tax ($750 + 5% GST and 7% PST), which includes my airfare, if a flight volunteer is found directly to Vancouver. ------------------------------------- DISCLAIMER: Please visit wcpdogrescue.com to read about West Coast Paws Dog Rescue and its adoption process. The info included in each WCP bio is provided to us from the international rescuer. WCP does not have in-person access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of their descriptions, although we ask for video proof of a dog's attributes wherever possible. Every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person(s) adopting them and the environment in which they live.  WCP is unable to guarantee the accuracy of a dogs age and/or breed. These are strictly "best guesses" based on veterinary exams and their educated estimates.  ##2297855##
