Story
Meet Kassie. She came to us with several siblings from a backyard breeder as part of an unwanted litter of pups. Kassie date of birth is 5/24/2024 and she is mostly a Belgin Malinois mix, there was also a Belgian Tervuren running loose on the property so that may explain her longer hair.  Kassie is extremely smart.  She can sit, shake, lay down, and is working on roll over.  She is 95% potty trained.  She only has accidents when she is out in the living room and no one sees her sit at the gate to go out.  With a little more time an attention, she will be fully potty trained.  She goes in her crate with minimal issue.  She whines quietly sometimes.  She sleeps through the night (10:30-6:00) without accidents.  Kassie walks fine on a leash and loves to sniff and explore.  Kassie will bond with one person very quickly, so a household with only one or two people would be best.  She absolutly needs an owner who will be active with her (hiking, running, camping) and is willing to put the time in to train her.  She is ok with kids, but a home without them would be best.  She barks at new people or when people come in the house.  We are working on that.  No cats or small dogs for Kassie.  She seems ok for now with her foster dog brother and dog sister, but they are both 100 pounds.  She will likely want to be the alpha dog.  She will absolutly need to go to an owner with experience with the breed.  In the right home, she will be an amazing companion. Kassie is now spayed, up to date with vaccines for her age and microchipped. Her adoption fee is $450.00. Story
Meet Kirby. Kirby is one of the 9 Malinois mix puppies rescued in August from a backyard breeder. He was born May 24, 2024.  Kirby sleeps through the night in his crate in his Foster’s bedroom. Kirby has been working hard at house breaking.  He does bond to his person and will follow you around the house 24/7; if he starts to stray, we know he needs to go potty. He is currently fostered with 3 other dogs ranging from 50-100 pounds both male and female. He is low man on the totem pole and respects the permanent resident female alpha. Kirby also lives with small children. When Kirby gets excited or sees a towel/ or sock dangling he does his “Malligator” mouthing but can easily be redirected by presenting a toy. He loves all kinds of toys and does not (yet) destroy any. He looks forward to his daily obedience sessions and is extremely smart. He will stay at your side while walking on a leash and loves hiking through the woods and jumping over fallen trees. Kirby currently naps multiple times throughout the day, either on a pillow or quietly in his crate. He would love to have a job or at the very least an active family familiar with his breed. Kirby will be neutered on September 19, 2024, have two sets of vaccines and be ready for adoption. His adoption fee is $450.00. Story
Meet Kia. Kia came to us from a backyard breeder. We were told she is about 2 years old and she does weigh about 56 lbs. Kia is mostly if not all Belgian Malinois. She had never lived in a house until she came to us. Kia has learned a lot like how to walk on a leash and she is starting to play with toys. She is friendly and likes to be pet but is scared of sudden movements and loud noises. Kia learns new things every day and gets better every day in her foster home. She is going to need a home that has a lot of time for training and patience. She is not an aggressive dog, but will nip if something scares her. Because of this we are not recommending a home for her with children. However, she was around kids outside where she came from. Kia has a lot of potential to be a great canine citizen with the right handler. She will do best with lots of exercise and mental stimulation. Kia is crate trained but still working on housebreaking. She is may be younger then 2 years since she does chew on things and loves to play with toys. Kia is now spayed, up to date with vaccines and microchipped. She tested negative for heartworm and has been started on monthly heartworm prevention. Her adoption fee is $250.00. Story
Meet Kelce. Kelce came to us as part of an unwanted litter of puppies from a backyard breeder. Her date of birth is 5/24/2024. She is mostly Belgian Malinois with the possibility of Belgian Tervuren as there was one loose on the property. Kelce is an energetic, sweet, and very smart puppy. She loves her person and bonds quickly to that person. She does bark at strangers, but is smart enough to know that person likely has a treat. She is an entertainer! She likes to have something in her mouth, so any socks or clothing lying around are choice options – but she is quite happy to have a stuffed toy instead.Kelce is 95% there when it comes to housebreaking in her crate. She can go through the night, and mostly holds it at the daytime intervals unless her foster Mom gets the timing wrong. She plays very well with her sibling Kiley – they rough house and sometimes can get carried away when they have ‘the toy of choice’ – but this is typical puppy stuff at this point.  She knows the command ‘crate’, or ‘crate for cookies’ and puts herself in her crate to get her treat. She just learned the sit command – took no more than 5 minutes of a concentrated effort by her foster Mom. Now she just sits down and looks at you waiting for her biscuit She loves to be held and given a good belly rub. She is fine in her crate – even when she can see you. I think Kelce would do well with a larger confident dog with not as high energy as she has. She has not been introduced to cats. I am sure she would chase them, but quickly learn that that is not acceptable. Kelce would like to have an active person in her life that will take the time to exercise with her and dote on her. If you want a best friend, running partner, rodent eradicator, house alarm system, and comic relief – this is your girl! Kelce is now spayed,  up to vaccines for her age and microchipped. Her adoption fee is $450.00. If interested in adopting Kelce, please visit our website www.lharinc.org go to Adopt and complete the dog adoption application.
