Story
Waylon is a special boy looking for a patient and experienced adopter with another playful, confident dog in the home. He thrives with a canine companion to help him build confidence and navigate the world at his own pace. Found in a park with his supposed littermates and mother, Waylon is extremely fearful and skittish around new people. Future adopters should expect that he will take time to warm up and may not allow petting for a while. However, with patience and the support of a resident dog, he will slowly start to come out of his shell. Once comfortable, his playful, puppy-like personality shines through! He loves rough-and-tumble play but doesn't always recognize when other dogs need a break. Waylon is a high-energy pup who enjoys walks, outdoor play, and interactive activities. He’s still learning proper chewing habits and will need supervision with toys, socks, and rugs. He has been doing well with baths, brushing, and nail trims. Due to his skittish nature, he cannot be trusted off-leash unless in a secure, fenced area. Waylon currently knows “sit,” “down,” and “load up” (into the car) and is working on “wait” and “ok.” With time, patience, and the right home, Waylon will be a rewarding companion! House trained: Knows what to do once outside but doesn’t know how to signal the needs to go out, as long as he is taken out every couple hours he doesn’t have accidentsLeash trained: Yes, with people he knows. With strangers he tries to escape. Does best with a martingale collar.Kennel trained: Yes, he loves his kennel and will take naps in it on his ownRides well in a car: Yes - he rides in a kennel in the car and even jumps into and out of the car on his own nowGood with dogs: Yes - a confident, playful dog in the home is an absolute must.Good with cats: He doesn't harm them, but he is rambunctious and wants to play Good with children: Would not do well with children due to fearful nature Apartment qualified: Yes, for the right person. He occassionally barks and howls if he gets spooked Health concerns/special needs: Adopter might choose do anxiety meds We believe Waylon is a German Shepherd and was born around 5-1-2024.
