Story
Lily was found abandoned by a friend of our family at approx. 6 weeks old in July of 2024. They tried to find her owner to no avail and were not interested in keeping her and planned to take her to a shelter. We decided to foster her on a trial basis as we have an older pit/lab mix at home that hasn't been around a lot of other dogs. Lily is a very intelligent, highly energetic dog who loves to play. She is potty trained. She is sweet and loves to snuggle. We believe her to be part Belgian Malinois. We are trying to find her a good home for several reasons. She gets along with our older dog but her high energy level and constant need for play creates more anxiety for our older dog. Lily needs a lot of attention and needs a good amount of exercise and stimulation. I don't feel like our family is meeting these needs because we are away from home too much. She needs a family that can give her more time, attention, stimulation, and consistent routine.

Story
Meet Gracie: Pet of the Week! Take a look at this sweet girl! Gracie is about 1-2 years old. She has so much love to give and is looking for a forever home, or a foster in the meantime. She's got it all! Good with kids, kennel trained, housebroken, and just amazing to all of the volunteers up here! She has a couple of quirks, which all pets do. She likes to flip her bowl so that she can eat her food on the floor. We're working on trying to get her to try new methods of eating breakfast and dinner, such as puzzle feeders, and various food dispensing toys, but she's not quite interested in those yet. NO CATS! She cannot be around cats, smaller animals, or chickens. Her prey drive kicks in pretty hard. But with her breeds, or what we think her breeds are, it can be expected. Her original paperwork has her listed as a Belgium Malinois/Coonhound mix. She has the facial structure of the Malinois and the energy, but the goofy personality of a coonhound and the coloring. We'd prefer to have someone with knowledge of the Malinois breed so that she doesn't end up coming back up here for her nature, but we are also willing to meet with those who are willing to agree to train her further and maintain that. She already knows some basic commands and uses them consistently. Oh, and she loves playing fetch with a ball. Former owner says if you throw it once, be prepared to continue throwing it for a good bit! We see more playful than spastic out of her, so we think she'd be a great fit for a family willing to put in the time with her! She is a bit intense and will need regular exercise and perhaps a “job” – she would excel no doubt at agility, etc. Call 913-684-4939. Visit at 510 Organ Ave. 11-4 MWF. Email fortleavenworthstrayfacility@gmail.com for an adoption application. Featured as the Pet of the Week in the Nov. 7, 2024, issue of the Fort Leavenworth Lamp.

Story
Renny is very friendly older girl. Her owner has to move into assisted living by January 10, 2025 and she can't go with him. We have been trying to find a home for her. She has lived outside in a big kennel next to the house. Renny has not been an inside dog. She is super friendly and a good people alarm and greeter. She used to be loose while the owner was out and about in the yard without running off or worry. She had 2 acres when she wasn't in her dog run. It has been a year or so as he owners health declined she was out less and needs attention. She is very lively, but gets bored in her enclosure. She would be great for someone who wants an older dog companion. Would be really great to see her go to a home with some running room or a farm. She can come with her enclosure and doghouse as well.
