Approximate age / Weight: 1.5 yrs old and 50 lbs. Personality: Looking to upgrade your health routine with a personal trainer who also moonlights as a cuddle buddy? Meet Arnold! This energetic 1.5-year-old, 50-pound bundle of joy is not just any dog; he’s your new wellness coach. Arnold will have you marching on long walks, sharing your snacks (yes, he’s got his eyes on those extra calories), and snuggling up to ensure you don’t sneak away for a midnight snack. Think of him as your fitness guru with a side of fluff. Arnold came to Waggin’ Tails from Detroit Animal Control in the summer of 2023, and though he had a rough start with an injury that required hip replacement surgery, he’s bounced back like the champ he is. Now, he’s all about living life to the fullest—fetching, playing, and probably eyeing your workout gear with a “Let’s go!” look. He may not be the best fit for dog parks or daycare, especially if you’re a male husky, but he’s a charmer with lady dogs and always respects their personal space. Arnold is a water-loving dynamo, so if you’re into swimming, he’s your guy. Looking for a high-energy companion who’ll keep you on your toes (and off the couch)? Arnold is adaptable to various home environments, as long as he gets his share of exercise and mental stimulation. If you’re up for the challenge of keeping up with this lively pup, he’s ready to keep pace with you and make your life a whole lot more fun. We do our best to provide information that will help determine if the animal might be a good fit for you. Please note that behaviors may change in a home environment. We also ask our applicants to assume that any animal they adopt from us will need to be potty-trained and learn house manners, although this is not always the case. In most cases, the listed breeds are also a best guess. Our online animal bios are designed to provide as much information as possible and answer some anticipated questions. We do not have the resources to respond to emails with more specific questions. We are receiving an unusually high number of applications at this time! Applications are reviewed as they are received, but we do not select adopters on a first-come basis. Our job is to ensure each pet is placed into the best fit home for them and that adopters are paired with an animal that is a good fit for their lifestyle. All animals will stay online until they are “pending adoption”. Therefore, if an animal is still listed, we are still accepting applications for him/her! Please do not send inquiries about a specific animal's availability as this can change quickly over the course of the day. The fastest way to get a response is to simply submit an application! We will do our best to notify you by email if the pet(s) you are interested in are no longer available. New animals are posted daily, so please let us know if another furry friend peaks your interest (there is no need to fill out a second application)! Fill out the application (DOG:https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=44, CAT: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=41, EXOTICS: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=46) completely. It could take up to a couple of weeks for you to receive a final disposition on your application so there is no need to check on the status.-Introductions will be scheduled by appointment only, 30 minutes per appointment. The entire household, including current dogs, must be present for the appointment. (Note: Please do not bring your dogs if you are meeting cats!). Story
Hey, my name is Micky and I am looking for my forever home! I am a sweet boy with a TON of energy, and I am hoping to find an adopter who not only shares my energy level, but who will help train me to keep me on my best behavior. I can be rough when I play, so I will need a home without young children. Once I am fully comfortable with you, you will have a friend for life! I am loving and smart and would make the perfect dog for an experienced dog parent. I really really hate the vet so I will need someone who can help me find a vet I feel comfortable with. I may sound like extra work, I can promise you that the love I will give will be totally worth it! Micky has heartworm which means that this dog has parasitic worms in the right ventricle of the heart and nearby blood vessels. Heartworm is transmitted from one dog to another by mosquitoes and can be easily prevented using monthly heartworm preventative, but once the disease is contracted the treatment process can be quite intensive. Micky will need to remain sedentary with minimal activity during the treatment process to ensure a healthy recovery. There is additional information on heartworm disease and treatment available at our Adoption Desk. The heartworm injections for treatment are covered by HSHV, but there may be additional costs associated with clinical care.

Story
Dante is an adorable puppy looking for a forever home! Few can resist a puppy: these cute, soft bundles of energy are, in many ways, like four-legged toddlers with tails. Like children, puppies need a lot of time, care, love and understanding. They will depend on you for frequent and regular feedings and walks, for guidance and training, for a lot of your time and your love. If you are willing to devote the time needed for a puppy, you will gain an amazing companion! Dante is currently under the care of the shelter medical team at HSHV. If you would like to learn more about him, please reach out to the Adoption Desk at adoptions@hshv.org or (734) 662-5585. Dante is currently living in one of our wonderful foster homes. Adopting from foster is easy! Please contact us to arrange a meeting today! Dante`s foster says: `Dante is the sweetest boy! He is very playful and loves tug a war and chewing on Benebones with his tiny puppy teeth. After a long play session Dante loves to cuddle up next to you for a little nap. Due to Dante’s medical condition of Mega Esophagus (or Mega E) he has to sit upright while he eats multiple small meals a day. He knows when you pull his chair out that it is time to eat and he gets very excited, he tries to eat as fast as possible so you have to pace him. After he eats, Dante needs to sit upright for 10-20 minutes to make sure the food digests and he does not throw up. Dante does not like to sit in his chair, but prefers to be held like a baby. Hopefully with a bigger chair (known as a Bailey Chair) he will be more willing to sit still. His condition is a lot to handle for busy or first-time dog owners, but he gets along well with other dogs, cats and kids (there is a 12 year old in the foster home with him). Dante does well with crate training, and housebreaking is going well. His ears want to stand up, and he is very smart which is typical of a German Shepherd.`

Hello! My name is Flint, an adorable puppy looking for a forever home! Few can resist a puppy. These cute, soft bundles of energy are, in many ways, like four-legged toddlers with tails. And, like children, puppies need a lot of time, care, love and understanding. They will depend on you for frequent and regular feedings and walks, for guidance and training, for a lot of your time and your love. I can be rather shy so I would prefer a quieter home without younger children. If you are willing to devote the time needed for a puppy, you will gain an amazing companion!
