Story
Meli is a loving, energetic, and playful dog who was rescued from a shelter in the DC area. Born in July 2023, she is now about a year and a half old and full of life. Unfortunately, due to recent changes in my circumstances, I am no longer able to provide Meli with the care and attention she deserves. I believe she would thrive in a home where she can receive the time, love, and dedication she needs to live her best life. Meli truly is a special companion, and she will bring so much joy to her future family.

Name:   Maximus         Best Guess for Breed:   Belgian Malinois/shepherd mix  Best Guess for Age:   1.5 years         SEX:    male   Approximate Weight:  30lbs - very underweight at this weight!   Gets Along With:   Other dogs! We have not seen Maximus with children or cats yet.   Currently Living at:  SC Rescue Campus   Maximus is Looking For:  His forever home! Shelter staff say he is very sweet and a little shy. He ended up in the shelter through no fault of his own and it's a little confusing. He wants nothing more than to once again have his own humans, to love and to be loved. To trot by their side, to explore the neighborhood - local parks -the world! - with them. In exchange, he promises adoring gazes, all the love in his little body, and loyal companionship for all his days. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Louie was surrendered to Humane Society of Wicomico County because of a negligent owner, who did not provide the proper training to a Belgian Malinois Shepherd mix, which resulted in Louie killing his neighbor's goats. He is a smart, young beautiful dog, and very sweet with humans. A Belgian Malinois mix is a working breed that does  best in a home that is active and willing to provide training, and guidance.  Louie will require a strong leader and someone willing to work with him.   Louie is receiving training at the shelter and learning SIT and LEAVE IT. He is treat motivated. Louie seems to want to pull towards other dogs, we are not sure yet if he is aggressive towards them or wants to play. There is a video of him approaching a dog in a yard in a playful, non-aggressive manner. He may be dog selective.  Louie would not do well around small children. Older children who understand how to play with a dog may be okay He would do well with a fenced yard so he cannot have free range and go off property. Louis is definitely stressed out in the shelter environment.   Because our shelter is full, he is at risk of being euthanized to make space for others.  See more about Louie using the following link:  https://www.wicomicohumane.org/animals/chooie-looie/ PLEASE NOTE : THE DOG LISTED IS SHOWN AS A COURTESY TO ANOTHER ORGANIZATION OR FOR AN INDIVIDUAL WHO NEEDS TO FIND A NEW HOME FOR THEIR DOG. Story
Arya is a purebred Belgian Malinois with a friendly and affectionate nature. She loves cuddling and being close to her owner. While she doesn’t have the high energy level typical of her breed, she is still a working dog who enjoys playing and staying active. However, Arya isn’t good with small animals, which is a consideration as we have a cat at home.

Story
We got Freya 5 years ago from a puppy farm in PA. She is 5 years old her birthday is March 3rd. We unfortunately have to rehome my sweet girl because my wife and I just had a baby, and Freya does not like him. We have sent her away for behavioral training for 4 weeks, and she still does not like the baby. We have contacted many trainers, and Vets about trying to keep her but the end result is she just doesn't like small children, 10 and up she is fine with. Freya is very smart, learns really fast, and needs to be kept busy. She is crate trained, e-collar, and leash trained. She plays fetch, loves to track hidden treats. She needs a place to run, and someone that can work her, things to keep her mind busy. She is mostly Malinois so cannot be left alone for long periods of time they destroy things when bored.

If so, Akiro might be the perfect addition to your family. Akiro is a sweet, shy boy who has faced more than his share of challenges. This gentle soul needs a special kind of adopter—someone who can provide the time and care required to help him overcome his fears and become the confident, loving companion he’s meant to be. Akiro will thrive best with someone experienced in handling anxious dogs. He needs a patient and understanding approach as he builds trust at his own pace. A calm and steady home environment will help him feel secure, and a predictable routine will make him more comfortable and confident. Positive reinforcement training is crucial for helping Akiro work through his fears. With gentle guidance, he can learn to approach new experiences with greater ease. Building trust with Akiro is a gradual process, so a dedicated owner who is committed to spending quality time with him and introducing him to new things slowly is essential. Once Akiro feels safe, he will reveal his deep affection and loyalty. His gentle nature will shine through as he begins to trust you. He enjoys quiet moments and will thrive in a serene home environment where he can relax and feel at ease. Important Note: Commitment Required Due to Akiro’s sensitive nature and the dedication needed for his development, we are not accepting returns for him. Akiro’s progress is delicate, and it’s essential that he finds a stable, committed home where he can continue his journey without interruption. Akiro needs an owner who is ready to invest in his training and socialization. Moving between homes can disrupt his progress, lead to separation anxiety, and hinder his development. If you’re prepared to offer Akiro a stable and loving environment and are committed to his ongoing growth, we invite you to consider adopting him. Your dedication will play a crucial role in helping Akiro become the confident and happy companion he’s meant to be. __________________________________If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application.Apply to adopt at: www.nerdypaws.org Nerdy Paws Animal Rescue is a foster based rescue in Springfield, VA. We do not have a shelter, all of our animals are in foster homes. We require all potential adopters to fill out an application before setting up a meeting with the animal and their foster family. Story
Gunner is a long-coat German Shepherd from a breeder in Germany. He is 10, and we adopted him when he was 1. While in Germany, he had a few months of Schutzhund training. We haven’t kept up with it recently, but he still recognizes some commands. He is current on all his vaccines and is house- and crate-trained. He is healthy and has no medical issues other than needing to lose some weight. I will provide his medical records. He has never bitten anyone, is not aggressive, and is very playful. He was raised next to my children and cats.

Story
Beautiful Nicky he has the happiest disposition a dog could have.  He just LOVES people.  He looks to the person walking him for guidance and reassurance.  He loves to go for a fun walk then come home and snuggle up with his human and get belly rubs.  He is SUPER smart and knows sit, wait, heel, and let's go.  He learns quickly and wants to please. He will quickly bond with his special human(s) and be easy to train.  Nicky is a mixed breed, probably with some Shepherd.  He isn't too large, a nice medium size.  He likes dogs but needs to be introduced properly to other dogs.  He is currently fostered and enjoys playing with his doggie sibling.  While he enjoys having a having a doggie friend we think he would also be fine as an only dog as long as he continues to get proper socialization.  He does have alot of energy so we think he would do best with a fenced yard.  He would be a great dog to take hiking or to play fetch in the back yard.  He LOVES to play with toys and will entertain himself pretty independently.  At his foster's he does very well in the crate at night and is housetrained.  Nicky had a hard early life - roaming the streets in South Carolina.  Happily he was found and taken to the shelter where he received great care.  During his wanderings he seems to have suffered an injury to his front leg, which luckily does not cause him pain.  Despite this tough beginning he still has faith that his special human will come along and give him the life he deserves. Nicky would make a great addition to any family.  Do you have room in your life for a sweet furry companion who just wants to be loved?
