Story
PLEASE NOTE! Unless stated otherwise, our dogs and puppies are located in Arkansas, and transported to the north/northeast once adopted. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet.12/14/24 STILL AVAILABLE 10/21 Zora, Maud, Klaus, Lars,  Edda, and Petra were born to a stray dog who has been staying in the same area for several years. This is her 4th litter. People in the neighborhood feed her, but no one can seem to catch her to have her spayed. We didn't find out about this situation until last week, when we were contacted by an 86 year old lady who is the one taking care of these pups. The mama dog brought these pups up to her house when they were only a few weeks old, and Ms. Fontaine has been trying to find a rescue to help with them since then. Unfortunately, all rescues in our area are overwhelmed and no one was able to help her. I went over to meet and vaccinate the pups last week. They are 5 months old. They are very scared and timid. Ms. Fontaine is able to pet all of them and even allows them in her house. They love her, and she loves them, but we are all afraid with her age, these pups are creating a fall risk for her. They do not jump on her, but wec are worried about her tripping over them. We would love to move them to other rescues if anyone knows a rescue who could take 1 or 2. They are also available for adoption, but adopters will need to be aware that they will definitely be a project. They will take a long time to gain confidence and build trust. They are NOT aggressive at all. I was able to give them all shots with not even a growl from any of them. They just hide and tremble. I do believe they have potential to be good pets, but it is going to require a lot of patience and work.  If anyone is interested in giving one of these pups a  let us know. We are working on getting them all fixed so they wont continue adding to the population. We will also continue efforts to trap the mama dog so we can stop the steady flow of pups.  We are all so overwhelmed. And it is next to impossible to find homes for dogs like these. Spayed/neutered UTD on age appropriate vaccines, microchipped, and started on flea/tick and heartworm prevention.  Please consider giving one of these babies a good home. They will be so loyal and loving. Located in Arkansas, but transport is available. Adopter must be able to pick up or arrange for someone to pick up for them at one of the following times/locations. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. DeeDee and her sister DOLLY was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas and arrived at Give a Dog a Home Rescue, in Sebec, Maine on 24th September.  We post in east coast states and Canada as we have many families adopt and are happy to make the worthwhile trip up to the rescue. We do not always have time to post all the pictures on each dogs individual page, but we do post a lot of photo's on the rescue Facebook page. DeeDee is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, monthly preventatives, heartworm and tick disease tested negative and is microchipped with 24PetWatch. She has an estimated date of birth of September 2023 and on 22 September weighed 50 pounds. We have no way of knowing the breed, it is up to individuals to look at the pictures and videos to make up their own mind. The shelter noted the following on 2 September about both girls who were taken to the play group individually: Not feeling quite confident on the leash yet, was carried to the yard. She wasn't feeling confident enough to join in with the others at this time. She was standoffish and could feel overwhelmed at times.   Kennel visit - 5 September Stayed on bed and was licking my hands but when I went to pet her she kept flinching and moving her head. Got off the bed and continued to lick hands but still flinched when tried to pet her. We are looking for families that have the lifestyle that the dog needs to lead a healthy, both mentally and physically life, who can afford a GOOD quality food, toys and treats and understand the importance of veterinary wellness checks.  She does need an active family who will ensure she gets all the exercise, both mentally and physically that she needs to live a happy fulfilling life. DeeDee is available for an adoption fee of $550 or if adopted with her sister DOLLY the adoption fee is $1,000 for both girls. Interested families are required to complete our application process and once approved schedule an appointment to come to the rescue in SEBEC, Maine to meet and take home their new best friend. Our process takes 1-2 days as long as we are able to talk to references, so be prepared to be approved (hopefully) to adopt within a few days of submitting the adoption application. Story
adoption donation : $499 weight 70 lbs  Age: 5 years (DOB 12/9/2019)       Mellie is a purebred AKC registered Belgian Malinois and an awesome dog, she bonds  strongly to her people, is affectionate and loving, and as long as she gets the exercise she needs she is extremely chill in the house and just an easy dog who will make a great companion. Mellie does need a good amount of exercise, she walks well on a leash and will absolutely adore anyone who will throw a ball for her, she can play fetch for hours! Mellie  gets along with other dogs but can be dominant so she needs an owner who will respect her breed and understand that she needs a careful introduction to new dogs.  Mellie is currently in a foster home with a man who is actually a dog trainer and she is learning basic commands, she can sit and stay, lay down and heal. The family recently took in to German Shepherds, a male and a female and Mellie is doing fine with them. Mellie sleeps in a crate at night. Mellie was  originally bought from a breeder by a family who recently had young children and no longer had time for Mellie.  The dog trainer offered to take Mellie and help find her an home. Mellie has had her vaccinations but is not yet spayed. Wags will take care of her spay before an adoption or reimburse the cost at one of the clinics the rescue uses if she is adopted before her spay. Mellie is a great dog who ideally would be best in a home with someone who knows the breed and can give her the structure and exercise she needs.       Wags is a struggling 501(c) 3 where one woman in rural Mississippi takes care of about 150 homeless and stray dogs.  Adoption donations are the only source of funding for the rescue. Adoption fee includes the transport from Mississippi, vaccines, microchip and spay and neuter at one of the clinics we use. For more information on adopting Mellie please email mariaeftimiades@yahoo.com    December 29, 2024, 1:51 pm

Please apply online now to be considered as a potential adopter. PLEASE NOTE: All the information about this dog is in the bio. If you have not summited an application and are waiting for a response from us by email, please understand that applications are coming in every day and are being processed ahead of you. Therefore, the longer you wait for questions to be answered, the less your chances are. In addition, as home life and rescue put the needs of our rescue dogs first, we regret that we were not able to get back to you. LEASH, HOUSE AND BASIC COMMAND TRAINED FULLY VETTED*** NEUTERED*** CHIPPED GREAT WITH PEOPLE OF ALL AGES***BLACK AND RED COAT Our German shepherd rescue is proud to present for adoption a young (9 months) Belgian Malinois, male, that is off the charts handsome. Our new boy goes by the name Zeus but he is probably the total antithesis of this moniker being super friendly, happy, playful and downright adorable. Zeus has a beautiful classic coat, comes in now at 60 pounds but will be upwards of 85 pounds, beautiful gait, great symmetry and extremely intelligent. This guy is great with other dogs, loves kids, loves play time, loves to train and is just fun to be around! Zeus works out daily with 11 other shepherds and a golden retriever, they put up with him and he is in heaven. This young man completed all of our socialization and training programs with ease reflecting a very high desire to train, superior confidence, strong desire to bond, very high intelligence and a strong but in control protective instinct. As the primary trainer for Zeus I can tell you, without qualification, that this dog has few if any limitations. With a less than desirable early life Zeus’s zest for life is quite remarkable. Our boy will fit in almost any home that will open its heart and let him in.

Story
Greetings, mortals! I am Aries, a majestic male dog with a powerful spirit that rivals the might of the gods themselves. My lineage is a fusion of strength and courage, much like the mythical Greek warriors of old. As a German Shepherd mix, I bear the mantle of both protector and loyal companion, ready to embark on epic adventures by your side. Behold, my most distinctive feature: my big, floppy ears that listen keenly to the whispers of the wind and the secrets of the world around me. They stand as a testament to my unwavering vigilance, always attuned to the slightest rustle or sign of danger. Like the fiery ram that represents my namesake constellation, I possess boundless energy and a fiery spirit. With every step I take, I channel the might of the heavens, exuding the strength and grace befitting of a true Greek hero. My paws tread the earth with purpose, and my heart beats with the fervor of an ancient battle cry. But fear not, for beneath my divine exterior lies a heart overflowing with affection. I am not just a warrior; I am a loyal and loving companion. Together, we shall conquer every challenge and forge an unbreakable bond that even the gods would envy. So, dear mortal, if you seek a canine ally who embodies the essence of a Greek legend, look no further. I, Aries, the German Shepherd mix with big floppy ears, am here to join you on a quest of a lifetime. Let us create a mythic tale of companionship and courage that will be sung by bards for generations to come. Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $400 (includes transport to your area - $50 Temporary Fuel Charge will be added)

Story
Calista is a beautiful, crazy, playful, rambunctious 2 year old German Shepherd. Found out in the woods in Rio Grande Valley with her mom and sister fending for themselves and trying to survive the coyotes. She was very skittish when she arrived at the rescue, and at times can still be, but she has come a long way. She gets excited and does a crazy spin in her excitement. She loves playing with other dogs, loves treats and playing with her foster siblings. She really needs a patient person who knows the breed and is willing to work with her and have the dedication to wait until she shows her very silly side :) Her foster mom has learned her secret- treats and smelling like hot dogs/ peanut butter helps! Calista loves other dogs and gets along great with her foster homes pack. She is playful and energetic with them. Sometimes maybe too energetic as she can be an escape artist and find even the smallest of holes in the fence to see if she can fit and make a b-line to the neighbors house! Calista will need to stay local to Texas for the time being. Each day she is gaining confidence and understanding and realizing that people are not all mean and that there ares some out there that really do love dogs and want nothing but goodness for them. If you think you are ready to give Calista love, attention and help her build trust and confidence in herself and you then please apply! Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX only)
