Story
Meet Chip, a 3-year-old male German Shepherd mix.Chip is such a cute and handsome boy. He and a dog buddy were found roaming the streets of Yakima by animal control. Chip is a smart boy who walks incredibly well on the leash and is a good listener. We don't understand why this boy keeps getting over looked. He knows "sit" and is working on "wait" and "lay down". We can't express what a joy it is to work with Chip.Chip enjoys playing with rope toys in the yard and when it is time to go to the kennel he will run back to his and get in/sit without a fuss, patiently waiting for his yummy treat. Chip is great with other dogs we have introduced him to, so much so that he is now the dog we use to test friendliness of other dogs in his run. We could spend all day saying great things about Chip but you just have to meet this fantastic boy in person to really understand.Chip went on a public dog walk recently and this is what they had to say about him! "Initially very excited to be outside and pulled at the leash. He was very responsive to cues and settled in after 10 minutes. By the end of the walk, he was walking next to me with no tension on the leash. He did not chase after a cat who ran by us though he was more enticed by a squirrel. He was affectionate and enjoyed pets and attention. With cues, he ignored other dogs who were antagonizing him. He's such a sweet boy with beautiful eye contact."This pet is available for adoption at the Yakima Humane Society adoption center. If you recognize this animal please contact the adoption center at 509-457-6854.If you are interested in adopting this pet please fill out an adoption questionnaire at www.yakimahumane.org. A Yakima Humane Society staff member will contact you once your questionnaire has been processed. Adopters are welcome to visit the adoption center Monday-Saturday. A Picture says 1000 words...right? While an animal's picture draws interest, the reality is that as a potential adopter most people would like as much information as possible about a pet. The Yakima Humane Society is an open admission shelter. What does this mean? Over 90% of the pets at the adoption center arrive as strays, no history of behavior or medical care is known. Adding a pet to your family is a big responsibility. Please research carefully and remember that adoption is life saving. Adopt Don't Shop.

Story
Meet Randy, a 5-year-old male Rottweiler/Pitbull mix. Randy came in to us pretty under weight, but 15 pounds later he is looking much better. He has played in the play yard with other dogs and got along great with another resident named Kenny. He is a friendly boy who plays fetch and is working on basic commands. Despite his size Randy walks pretty good on his leash and doesn't yank you around, at 75 pound he could throw his weight around if he wanted to. He tends to bond strong and is a protective breed so please do your research prior to applying to adopt this big sweetheart. Randy is looking for a home that has lots of love and food! This pet is available for adoption at the Yakima Humane Society adoption center. Story
Meet Outlaw, a 3-year-old male Rottie/Pitbull mix.Outlaw is an impressive 85 pounds. He has an intimidating look but is kinda of just one massive goober. Outlaw was brought to YHS after his owner was taken into custody, sadly no one has come for him so YHS now needs to find him a home that can make him a valued member of their family. Outlaw would do best in a home with no cats but has met other dogs and done well. He just wants to play with them and doesn't always want to take no for an answer, but he was good when told off by the other dog. He loves to play tug-of-war with toys and will even play tug with other dogs. Outlaw is just a big boy who needs someone who will remind him of his size and manners. Once he knows the rules he tries his best to follow them, walking well on a leash (once he is reminded it isn't a tug of war rope) and doing both "sit" and "lay down" for treats. Outlaw is very food motivated and we always recommend feeding dogs separately from other animals in the house so they don't feel someone is going to steal their food. This big ole' goofball is just looking for someone who wants a large love bug that doesn't know what "personal space" means. This pet is available for adoption at the Yakima Humane Society adoption center.
