**IF THIS LISTING IS STILL POSTED THIS DOG IS STILL AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION. NO NEED TO EMAIL ASKING IF THE DOG IS AVAILABLE. PLEASE READ THROUGH THIS BIO THOROUGHLY AS INFORMATION ON HOW TO APPLY IS CONTAINED IN THIS LISTING** For Adoption: Keith! Please read our dog bios carefully to be sure that the dog you are applying for suits your family and lifestyle. We at PDR believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process. To apply for adoption and for more information on our process and requirements, visit our website at https://pounddog.ca/adoption-info/. This handsome dude is Keith and he is a 3yr old Beagle looking for a great Beagle loving family to call his very own. Keith is a chunky Beagle weighing in at 40lbs (but needs to lose weight). He came to us from a shelter where he was an unclaimed stray. Keith was in good shape, aside from being overweight and obviously had been cared for prior and is accustomed to being in a house, so we don’t know why anyone would give up this lovely hound. He is looking for his happily ever after with a Beagle loving person or family where he will never be abandoned again. Keith is 100% Beagle and anyone interested in him needs to be experienced with hound breeds and fully understand that for him, and most hounds, smells are what its all about! Keith’s ideal walk would be on a long line in a wooded trail, large park, or out in the country, where he can really take in all kinds of good smells. He would not like to be an inner-city dog and only have pavement and concrete surrounding him. Keith does well on leash and doesn’t pull too badly, unless he catches a good scent and then he puts on the brakes and its all about investigating that smell. Keith would be very happy with multiple walks a day, and his waistline needs this too!! Keith is on a weight loss plan right now and needs his adoptive family to keep his exercise and diet regime up so he can be healthier. Keith is happy to be outside to do his business but being with his people trumps being outside by himself so he doesn’t like to spend a lot of time out in the yard alone. He loves sunbathing if you are out there with him, but otherwise, he is out for a good sniff of the yard, an occasional zoomie, and then he wants back in to hang with you. Keith is a generally quiet Beagle and isn’t much into the bugling that can come with the breed. When he does bark he has a deep and loud voice. We typically only hear him bark when he is outside and wants in….or if he gets super excited about dinner time and you aren’t serving up his meal quick enough. He loves his sniffs, but he doesn’t take sniffing as seriously as many other Beagles do. Keith is far more into a search for food! Food is his #1 priority in life. Keith is over zealous about food and cannot ever be trusted to be left alone with any food within his reach. He will even try to counter surf but thankfully isn’t tall enough to really get at anything, but that doesn’t mean he wont try. Anyone interested in Keith needs to ensure that food is always kept safely out of his reach….knowing that he will come up with inventive ways to get at unattended food if possible. Because Keith isn’t an overly vocal hound, he would do well in any manner of housing, and he doesn’t require a fenced in backyard if he gets multiple walks a day and many quick outings for bathroom breaks. He would love a yard to sniff around in and run his zoomies, and roll in grass, but its not essential for him. He will happily get a good grass roll in on a walk too. When not out on his perpetual mission to find food, Keith can be found inside, cuddled up in a chair or on the couch with his people. Keith doesn’t play favourites and will happily cuddle with whoever is sitting down. He loves a good cuddle and will often fall asleep on us or beside us. Keith is a big sucky and loves pets and attention and cuddle time. Keith isn’t much into playing with toys yet although we have found him claiming some Nylabone chew toys and running around the yard with them, proud as punch with his great find! Keith is doing well with housetraining but doesn’t know how to let you know he needs to go out so his people need to be proactive about this and let him out often. Keith has had some accidents when we were learning his signals but now we know that when he gets up to leave the room we are in it means he has to go. If you let him out regularly and pay attention to where he is at, Keith will not have accidents. His people need to fully understand tho that in a new home, learning a new schedule, there will be some accidents at the start. Keith is crated when we aren’t home and at night, and does well with this and is clean in his crate. He likes his crate and settles down for a rest whenever in it. Keith will greatly benefit from dog school and working with his people on obedience skills, building a bond, and better listening. Hounds can be more of a challenge to train as they are bred to work independently and Keith is no exception to this. He gets distracted easily if he thinks there is food to search out, or a good sniff outside. We don’t expect that he will be an obedience champion by going to class, but the lessons learned in school and the socialization are important for him. Keith came to us with no manners or training so he is learning now in his foster home but needs to continue his learning in his forever home. Keith currently lives with cats and other dogs in his foster home. He is good with both, although he can be a bossy pants with the other dogs when food is around. Keith would be happiest being the only dog in the home. He tolerates the other dogs in his foster home but doesn’t play with them or choose to interact with them. He really is all about his people. The cats in his foster home are very dog savvy and don’t run from dogs or cause any fuss and Keith is good with them. He would not do well in a home with a cat that reacts to him or runs from him as he will chase. When it comes to children Keith is well mannered and gentle. As a hound he is a total flight risk so we will only consider a home for him with kids 8yrs of age or older who can be responsible to ensure that the door isn’t being held open and gates are closed snugly every single time. If Keith gets out the door or gate he will be gone following smells. He is a dog that will be just fine though if younger children visit as long as the adults are minding the doors. Keep in mind though that young kids mean that any food they have are at Keith level and he will think nothing of stealing food from a child’s hand. Keith is a Beagle lover’s dream dog. He is moderate energy outside and a total couch potato inside. He is very friendly and greets all new people as best friends he just hasn’t met yet. He loves meeting new people and getting pets from strangers. If you adore hounds and want one of your own, and are able to commit to helping Keith get back to his ideal weight and fitness level then he would love to meet you and see if this is a love match!! #rescuedismyfavoritebreed #rescuedog #adoptdontshop #pounddogs #pdr12years #pounddogrescue12yearsstrong Name: Keith ID # PDR2065 Age: 3yrs Gender: male Neutered: yes UTD vaccines: yes Breed: Beagle Colours: tri Coat length: short House trained: yes Special needs: no OK with kids: older OK with cats: yes Ok with dogs: not to live with Status: adoptable Microchip: yes Size: medium Location: Drumbo Adoption fee: $800

**IF THIS LISTING IS STILL POSTED THIS DOG IS STILL AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION. NO NEED TO EMAIL ASKING IF THE DOG IS AVAILABLE. PLEASE READ THROUGH THIS BIO THOROUGHLY AS INFORMATION ON HOW TO APPLY IS CONTAINED IN THIS LISTING** For Adoption: Junie! Meet Junie, the tiniest beagle with the biggest heart! Junie is a 7 year old Beagle with the cutest little brown patches & freckles. Her floppy ears and tail that constantly wags in circles will instantly steal your heart. She is the smaller size of Beagles, the 13” high size, so she is a little dog who is quite adorable. Junie came to us from a rural pound where she was abandoned. She was quite underweight at 19lbs, with her ideal weight being around 24lbs. Over our time together she has had no problem putting on the pounds, as any Beagle does, she LOVES food. Whatever her past life looked like, Junie has opened her heart for a new future. She absolutely loves everyone she meets, and is always ready for a new adventure. As long as her people are with her, she is the absolute happiest. Junie can be left alone for about 5 hours, we find any more than this she needs a washroom break. Her best home would be someone that is around more often than not for this reason, as well as Junie loves to be around people. As a ‘mature’ lady, Junie loves a routine. She will sit and wait patiently by the front door when she knows it is time for her walk. Her natural energy level is low, but loves going on her two walks a day. She is quite content to snooze the remainder of the day away. This being said, if you are up for any adventure, Junie would love to come. She loves checking out hiking trails, the dog-friendly cafe’s & farmers markets, and sniffing all the smells around our local park. She is excellent on her leash, and will only pull when she gets on the scent of something. Junie hardly ever barks, her loudest noise is her snoring while she sleeps! The only time she has let her Beagle howl out was when she was really excited playing with other dogs, or playing with her favourite toy. But I think this is her trying to figure out a world that involves being goofy! She would do well in a home with a fenced in backyard or she would be suitable for condo living with frequent leashed visits to sniff outside. Junie loves to soak up the sun on the patio, but her favourite place to nap is her large pet bed or on the sofa. She loves a good couch cuddle and lots of belly rubs. We quickly learned that Junie does not like being confined, and is quite the escape artist when it comes to baby gates. At some-point in her life we are assuming she was confined for long periods at a time, as her teeth are worn down from biting metal. She will begin to do this at her crate if left for longer periods. This being said, Junie is amazing within the house. She has never attempted to destroy anything, and will happily sleep the day away while you are not there. We are still working on her crate training skills, and showing her it is a happy place to hang out. She is fed all her meals and chew treats in her crate, and she is beginning to settle in her crate while people are at home. The vet has noted her teeth are stable, and as long as she is not showing pain in eating harder kibble or chews than this should be fine to continue to be left alone. It is something that her new family will have to keep an eye on. Should her teeth wear down more in time and a root get exposed she will need a dental, but this isn’t warranted now. Junie has tested positive for Lyme disease. In regards to her Lyme disease, her previous owner obviously didn’t have her on the preventative which would have ensured she was protected. Lyme disease is a preventable disease that is spread by ticks. This disease is in Southern Ontario and we are seeing more and more of it as each year passes. We are a rescue that heartworm and lyme tests all of the dogs we take in for exactly this reason. The good news is that Junie is completely free of symptoms and is an otherwise healthy dog. Junie has been cleared to be adopted as there is no reason to hold her back. Junie has no need to be on medication for Lyme as she has no symptoms. Her adoptive family just needs to be aware of her Lyme status and advise their vet of it and understand that she will test positive for Lyme’s every time she has her heartworm/lyme tests done. She will also need to go to a family who will ensure that she is kept on tick preventative yearly so she doesn’t end up getting re-infected. She also had an umbilical hernia which we had repaired so that is all taken care of. Junie does well in the car. She goes in her crate for longer trips, and on shorter trips is seat belted in with a harness where she will happily sit in the backseat. Junie has been living with another smaller dog in the house, and often looks to him for comfort. She loves knowing where he is, and sleeping in the same area as him. She is just learning how play works with dogs, and coming out of her shell to be silly. Her new home could be with or without a doggie companion, but if another dog is present it should let her sleep when she wants and know when playing is too much. On walks she is very neutral with other dogs walking past. She is happy to sniff and say hello, and is more interested in befriending smaller dogs. As a hound, Junie does have a prey drive. Although she may not be as quick to react with her age, if she sees a squirrel or bunny she wants to chase it. She is not cat tested, but for this reason we feel a cat free home would be best. Although Junie loves meeting all people, kids included, she doesn’t have the fastest reaction time and thrives in a calm household. Young children would not be the best fit, as it will be overwhelming for her. She is often confused by very fast human movements or rowdy situations. She wants a quiet and calm home. Junie is such a gentle dog that will let you pick her up, and handle her no problem. She is not a fan of bath time, but only puts up a fuss by trying to escape the tub. She handles food gently, and has shown no guarding of food behaviours. We are working on her counter surfing, but because of her size this is really only if you have food on the coffee table. She may or may not have stolen a whole butter tart on our first days with her! Her other training includes door manners, and not running out the front door. She only tends to do this when her humans are leaving and she doesn’t want to be left out! Once told to stay, she has been getting better with giving the door distance. She has learned “sit” and is working on “bed” to go to her place. If you are looking for the sweetest soul dog, Junie has you covered! She will be the perfect side kick to any adventure, as long as you provide her endless love, a few treats, and snuggles back. Story
Coal / Male / Approx 10 months / 25 lbs / Beagle Cross / Good with Dogs / Untested with Kids / Untested with Cats / From Tennessee / Fostered in Toronto Meet Coal! Coal's foster describes him as affectionate, playful, sweet, and energetic He came to us after he was surrendered with his siblings to a shelter, and then pulled by our partner rescue in Tennessee. Despite having a bit of a rough start, Coal is a happy go lucky guy. He loves to play, and go for walks, but also loves napping and is always up for a good cuddle. He is friendly and warm with all people and dogs, and loves making new friends. Sometimes he gets a little too excited and jumps up to give a lick, but he’s still a puppy and working on his manners. Coal has not yet been tested with children but his foster believes he would do very well with dog savvy kids. As Coal’s mom was a Beagle-he loves to follow his nose. He’s a great walker and currently gets 3/30 minute walks per day. He pulls a bit when he gets excited, but it’s mostly when he wants to say hi to someone. This is something he is working on. He’s a very good boy and has already gotten the hang of the commands “no”, and “stay”. In addition to walks, this clever boy thrives with lots of enrichment activities like lick mats, puzzles, and training. He is aaaalmost there with potty training, and will require some support when he moves into his forever home. Coal has been left alone for up to 4 hours and does very well. When his fosters leave the house, they always make sure to walk him first and provide toys or puzzles so he settles well in the crate. When not crated, he lays down and waits for his fosters at the front door. At night time, Coal sleeps in a crate where he can see his people. As long as he is next to them, he relaxes and sleeps comfortably. Coal also does very well in the car and would make a good road trip buddy! Prior to coming into care, Coal tested positive for Anaplasma which is a tick-borne infection and is not contagious. A CBC was performed to see if there is an active infection. Coal 's CBC came back indicating that there is no active infection however it is recommended that Anaplasma positive dogs get an annual blood test to monitor and that pre-op blood work including a CBC test and platelet count be performed before any surgeries or dental extractions. As a condition of the adoption contract, Coal’s new family will be required to: - Ensure he has an opportunity to go outside every 2-3 hours. If you work full time, this means hiring a dog walker to come in 2x per day for a puppy visit - Attend and complete a basic obedience class at your own cost (proof required). - Provide plenty of socialization opportunities – both dog and human – it's important at this stage. If you’re interested in adopting Coal, please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form Coal’s adoption fee is $900. To learn more about our adoption fees and the adoption process, please visit our FAQs at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/about-us#about-faqs.
