Story
Meet Simba! He is almost 3 years old and is a Peagle, which is a beagle and a Pekingese. Some dogs take a really special person (with a lot of dog experience) and Simba is such a dog. Simba has some history of behavior problems, and is looking for his forever home that will love him and help him become the dog he can be. To be very clear : he does have a bite history with his previous family, and is only a candidate for an experienced adopter. He has resource guarding issues that need to be addressed. While he DOES get along with other dogs in casual interactions and loves to play - he will also guard what he believes is “HIS” - his toys, bones, food, bed, crate from other dogs as well as people. We are happy to share that he has had no bites since moving to his current foster home 8 months ago, where proper precautions and an environment was created to work with his issues. Simba does have a senior friend named Denver, he is a beagle mix as well. Denver is a dog's dog and doesn't much care for people, so if you are up to the challenge, Denver would love a home with Simba to call his own, for the time he has left! Simba's new home will be required to have a yard, as well as no children or cats. If you are a serious candidate to adopt Simba, please email us for additional information at contact@friendswithfourpaws.org Still interested in becoming a forever home for Simba, even after all you have read? Fill out our online adoption application: http://www.friendswithfourpaws.org/adoption-form.html This is the first step in our process, and we don't go any further without an application. Find more adoptable pets, news and information on Instagram @friendswithfourpaws or our Facebook page Friends with Four Paws . We put a lot of time and energy into processing our adoptions to find our babies the best fit home for them and you. Please do not submit an application if you are not serious about adopting Simba. We are so excited to work with you to find you a new forever friend, and Simba the perfect forever home, and appreciate you working with us. For immediate consideration, please attach your application to the initial inquiry to help us expedite the process. Our adoption fee is $475. This includes their spay/neuter surgery, full (age appropriate) vaccinations, microchip insertion and registration, deworming, heartworm testing and prevention, flea and tick prevention and travel expenses. All of our dogs are rescued from local shelters and the general public. Each dog is then placed in a foster home where he/she is kept for quarantine, to ensure if the dog gets sick it can receive proper treatment. We have foster homes in the NJ/NY area waiting to receive their fosters. Once an animal has received an application or there's an adopter interested, we make arrangements for transport. If a dog is already in foster

Story
1 year, 25lbs, Beagle Mix, Spayed  IMPORTANT NOTE: Shiloh can not live in the city. This pup needs an out of ciy home - burbs and beyond!  This dog is eligible to join our foster-to-adopt program. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the animal’s name in the subject line if you are interested! Want to straight up adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org. Their Foster Parents Say: "Shiloh was very shy for the first week or so but we let her take her time and get to know her surroundings. Once she started coming out and interacting with the household she was a completely different dog. She needs some extra love and patience as she is pretty scared of most new things. Little kids, parking lots, moving vehicles, and loud noises invoke big feelings for her so she will need lots and lots of positive reinforcement. She's a very smart girl and picks up on everything she sees and hears. She will need lots of stimulation like long chews, puzzles, long walks in nature, and sniffing games in the grass. We like to do early walks in the morning and various backyard play and potty breaks throughout the day. She usually will sleep pretty well during the daytime if she gets a good, stimulating walk in the morning. In the afternoon a good long chew keeps her occupied for a while. I have been doing her meals in a sniffy mat so she doesn't gobble it down too quickly and she gets to have an activity at the same time. Even though she has her few quirks, once she is comfortable Shiloh is a pretty easy dog. She really wants to cuddle with our beagles but they're too grumpy for a young pup. She plays really well with our little girl beagle too. She would do well in a house where there is another young dog who likes to play with others, or a patient buddy who will let her cuddle." Level of dog ownership experience needed: INTERMEDIATE: This dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.) Energy level  MEDIUM: Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  Cuddle Bug LevelMedium — Likes to snuggle when he's in the mood but often stays in his own bedPotty TrainedYes — Knows to go on command. Needs a handful of potty breaks. Comfy with strangers?Takes Time to Warm Up — It just takes her a day or so to warm up to new people. She is still very apprehensive/scared when encountering new people. But once she is comfortable she is a very playful and silly girl.Good with Children? (ALWAYS requires supervision)Not a great match for a home with kids -- calm teenagers and up is okay. Shiloh is very scared of little kids, particularly the loud noises they make.Good with Other Dogs?Yes — Shiloh has done well with our two beagles and is anxious to play. On walks/on leash she is nervous and skittish around other dogs.  She would do well with another young, medium/small dog or a dog who will let her cuddle with them. Good with Other Animals? (cats, small pets, etc.)Not sure if good with cats — we can cat test for approved adopters Mouthy Behavior? Respectful  – She enjoys chewing on bones, antlers, and hooves but is good about not chewing on people items.Leash Manners?Getting the Hang of it – She is pretty nose driven and will pull for a sent and she will pull ahead when there are people or dogs in view, but she does pretty well on leash otherwise if the area is quiet (no cars, people, dogs). We have mostly been doing hikes with her and down our dead end street.Okay in the city?Nope — Needs a suburban home Jumping on People to Say Hi?Low – Doesn’t jump up on people or dogs. Always all four on the floor. Separation Anxiety? Nope – Completely fine being left home alone. Doesn’t cry or do anything shitty when you leave the apartment or house. Crate training? Yep – Shiloh is fine with using a crate. Her previous foster used one but her current foster doesn't use one.  PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses though!  This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes. Story
REAPER - 6 years, 36lbs, Beagle, Neutered  Thier Foster Parent Says: "We nicknamed Reaper "Buddy" because he's never met a stranger. This is an extremely friendly, well-adjusted dog. He prances around the city like he's lived here forever and absolutely loves taking long sniff walks through Central Park. He's obsessed with large dogs (and often overeager to greet them) and indifferent toward small dogs. When it's time to relax, he has excellent sploot form and is equally comfortable cuddling up to his humans or relaxing on his own. He's possibly the cutest dog in the world when he's sleepy (which is often). Overall, he's a very calm dog who still manages to have a lot of personality (and will either gaze at you with soulful eyes or give you a flat RBF). I'm telling you, this is a true gem of a dog. He's a GOOD ONE!" Level of dog ownership experience needed:BEGINNER: This means we predict this dog will be low on the challenge scale due to its breed/age combo. Potentially a good fit for someone who has relevant dog care experience (fostering, dog sitting) and is looking to adopt their first pup Energy level MEDIUM: Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  Cuddle Bug Level: Medium — Likes to snuggle when he's in the mood but often stays in his own bed - Potty Trained: Yes — Few or no accidents Comfy with strangers? Yep — Wants to be friends with everyone who walks by, super social butterfly, loves anyone who will stop to say hello. Good with Children? (ALWAYS requires supervision) Yes for all ages — very gentle, low energy, tolerant, not mouthy Good with Other Dogs? Yes — Good with all other dogs (sizes, breeds, etc.) as far as we know and enjoys socializing with other canines  Good with Other Animals? (cats, small pets, etc.) Sort of — Seems to chase squirrels and birds and comes on a little strong so probably not a good match for a home with cats, rabbits, etc. We are able to cat test for approved adopters - most beagles are actually pretty good with cats :)  Okay in the city? Yes — Seems unfazed by the sights and sounds, they may as well have been born here. Jumping on People to Say Hi? Medium – Jumps up only on people the dog knows when really excited. Stops with correction Separation Anxiety? Medium – Might cry for a few minutes when you first leave the house but settles pretty quickly and has no problem being left alone.  Medical statusHealthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm negative; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake  How this dog ended up with Social Tees:Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee or St. Thomas. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.  PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses though!  This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes. LOBI - 1.5 yrs, 25lbs, Beagle Mix, Neutered  This dog is eligible to join our foster-to-adopt program. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the animal’s name in the subject line if you are interested! Want to straight up adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org. Thier Foster Parent Says: "Lobi is an absolute sweetheart. He recently made the trip to New York from Puerto Rico and is doing a great job adjusting. Lobi loves to play and has a lot of excited energy during play time but then is just as happy to curl up and hang out on the couch when it’s time to rest. He loves toys and is very motivated by them. He has a gentle and fun personality, does not bark much at all, and is eager to please. He gets along really well with our dog and is a great playmate. In general, he’s a bit skittish and is scared of loud noises and strangers on the street, but we think he’s doing a great job given the recent big changes in his life. Has a desire to please, so training is going well. He’s a smart boy and learned “sit”, “lay down”, and “paw” all within the first few days he was with us. He’s a really sweet guy and would make a great addition to any family ready to commit to a pup." Level of dog ownership experience needed:BEGINNER: This means we predict this dog will be low on the challenge scale due to its breed/age combo. Potentially a good fit for someone who has relevant dog care experience (fostering, dog sitting) and is looking to adopt their first pup.  MEDIUM: Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  Cuddle Bug LevelHigh — Wants to be in your lap pretty much all the timePotty TrainedYes — Few or no accidents Comfy with strangers?Yes  — Fine with meeting new people but not particularly interested, kind of shy in busy social situations like a gathering or a packed day in the park. Additional context: it’s 50/50. Some people who are very bubbly or who have dogs, he wants to say hi to, but some people on the street he gets very scared of. He’s never shown any signs of aggression when he’s scared though, he just wants to move past them.Comfortable with Children? (ALWAYS requires supervision)Yes for 12 and up Social with Other Dogs?Yes — Good with all other dogs (sizes, breeds, etc.) as far as we know and enjoys socializing with other canines. Currently in a home with another dog. Social with cats? Not sure yet! Some breed mixes that are generally NOT great matches for homes with cats include large hounds, huskies, and shepherds. We think that Lobi would be okay with cats given his age, temperament and breed.  Mouthy Behavior?Medium – Is respectful of hands, feet, etc. but does like to chew on things it’s not supposed to like shoes, furniture, etc. Additional context: he’s interested in blankets and pillows and books and tries to chew a bit on them but has yet to try to fully destroy anything. Leash Manners?Getting the Hang of it – Probably hasn’t been on a leash much in its life but he/she is figuring it out. Might be a mild puller but responds to correction. Additional context: he’s a bit of a sniffer and zig zags and does some light pulling but is responding well to correction!Okay in the city?Mostly Yes — Spooked easily by loud noises and bustling areas but walks pretty well and probably just needs more time to adjust (may be a puppy or a brand new rescue). Okay for a home in BK, Queens, Near a major park but wouldn't do well in a very busy area ie: midtown, etc Jumping on People to Say Hi?Low – Jumps up only on people the dog knows when really excited. Stops with correction. Additional context: he’s only jumped up on us, never a stranger on the street.Separation Anxiety?Low -  Might cry for a few minutes when you first leave the house but settles pretty quickly and has no problem being left alone. Crate training? Not at all – Don’t even have one, I’ve puppy proofed and we free range.  Medical statusHealthy as far as we know.
