Story
Adorable Abel is a man on a mission—to join your family! Meet Abel, a 2-year-old Beagle/Bassett Hound mix rescued from Swainsboro, Georgia. This precious guy weighs 25 pounds and has the signature tri-color coat of a Beagle with the sweetest Bassett expressions!
Abel thinks he’s a detective and loves to keep his nose to the ground when he goes for walks, sniffing out all the clues he can to the big world around him. He finds every smell and sound and sight intriguing, and he’d love to spend his days going for walks and exploring a big backyard where he can conduct all his investigations.
Abel is a very friendly dog who loves meeting new people. All humans are a pal for Abel, and he’s so excited to join any family who will love him and enjoy his company. He hopes that’s you! His detective skills tell him he will find his forever home soon!
Abel is neutered, up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccinations, and microchipped.
Given the conditions Abel originated from, upon rescue, he tested positive for Heartworm disease. Thanks to Home for Good Dog Rescue, Abel has completed his Heartworm treatment.

It is caused by foot-long worms (heartworms) that live in the heart, lungs, and associated blood vessels of affected animals, causing severe lung disease, heart failure, and damage to other organs in the body. Mosquitoes are carriers of heartworms and have the ability to infect dogs all year round, especially in the Southeastern portion of the United States and during the summer months.*

HFG Dog Rescue is a 100 percent foster-based rescue located in Berkeley Heights, NJ with a sister location, The Almost Home Wellness Center, in Aiken, SC. All of our dogs are rescued from kill shelters in SC + GA and once ready for adoption live in loving local NJ foster homes until they find forever families of their own. Our fosters begin basic training, housebreaking, and leash-walking skills to help pair you with the perfect pup for life!
