Story
At 11 years young, Shelby the Beagle still has so much love to give. With her gentle eyes, soft ears, and wagging tail, Shelby has a calm spirit and a heart full of loyalty. She’s the kind of dog who’s happiest curled up beside you on the couch or trotting behind you on a leisurely walk. Shelby came to us after her previous owner could no longer care for her, and now she’s looking for a soft place to land—somewhere she can enjoy her golden years surrounded by love and comfort. She gets along well with other mellow dogs, enjoys being around people, and has great manners. She’s just waiting for someone to see her not as “older,” but as wise, loving, and deserving. If you believe every dog deserves a cozy bed, a kind voice, and a forever home—Shelby is ready to meet you. Come visit Shelby and see for yourself how special a senior dog can be. Shelby's $200 Adoption Fee is a great deal! She is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, and micro-chipped. Shelby's estimated month of birth is 2/2014. Visit www.Pals-Pets.org to fill out a Pre-Adoption Questionnaire or call 314.581.6651 to schedule an appointment to meet this pet or any others here at the shelter.

Story
If you are interested in SKIPPY or in adopting a pup in general, the first step is an adoption application. Download an adoption application here Please email the completed application to adoptionteam4.woofriver@gmail.com Please submit an application rather than an inquiry with no application attached. SKIPPY is one of the most gentle souls in all the universe. He has deep brown heart melting eyes that always seem to be in awe of the big bright beautiful world around him. A couple of his favorite things are cuddle time with his foster family and sunning in the backyard. SKIPPY currently lives in a foster home with many dogs. He is never pushy and has zero desire to be the boss. SKIPPY’s kind, unobtrusive nature will make it easy for him to get along with all resident animals in his forever home. However, SKIPPY would also be perfectly fine as the only pup in the house, so he’s an easy addition to the family. If you are lucky enough to have sweet SKIPPY take a piece of your heart into his paw, he will hold on to it forever! His $540 adoption fee covers his interstate health certificate and the cost of transport to the midwest For an adoption application on SKIPPY click here Please email the completed application to adoptionteam4.woofriver@gmail.com. It typically takes us around 5 BUSINESS DAYS to process an application. We will reach out to you as soon as your application is processed. Thank you in advance for your patience. All of our dogs start their journey in Memphis, Tennessee where they remain in loving foster families until they are adopted. Once adopted, some pups stay local in Memphis. Many others travel via one of our transport partners to their new forever homes. We use Pet Express Transport (https://petexpresstupelo.wordpress.com) for our Nashville, Knoxville and New England adoptions. For our Midwest adopters, we have our own private transport. Breed selection is done in conjunction with two local vets and is not to be considered a guarantee but rather a well-educated decision from well qualified staff. Due to the extremely high volume of inquiries we receive, we ask that you request, complete, and submit an application before asking additional questions. We try very hard to include all pertinent information in our bios. We are excited to help you find your new family member. However, Woof River is 100% volunteer operated. We want to spend our time saving dogs and assisting those adopters who have taken the time to complete an application. Thank you for understanding. Please LIKE Woof River on Facebook! COZY is a fantastic dog who is being cared for by one of our trusted rescue partners. COZY is NOT a Woof River dog. To apply for COZY please download an adoption application here Please email the completed application to John at jhayesp@gmail.com Please submit an application rather than an inquiry with no application attached. Meet Cozy! 🐾 True to her name, Cozy is the queen of comfort and a master at settling right in. This easygoing girl lives for the simple joys in life—lounging in the sun, car rides with the windows down, and soaking up belly rubs like they’re her favorite treat (they might be!). Cozy is a mellow, low-energy companion who’s perfectly content hanging out at home. But don’t let her laid-back vibe fool you—when it’s mealtime, she’ll let you know with a happy bay and bark, just to make sure you didn’t forget! She loves the company of other dogs and plays beautifully with her canine pals. Cozy is also crate-trained and does well when her foster dad is away. She’s still learning the ropes of leash walking, so a little patience and guidance will go a long way. If you’re looking for a sweet, sun-loving, snuggle-ready pup who brings calm and joy to every day, Cozy might just be your perfect match. ❤️ To see even more pictures COZY copy and paste the following link into your browser: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/06c7op1a877zsbexiebqy/APX5izSggI18u7BiPWff1xE?rlkey=04fo75w3ae4nfqv8v1aaqihmh&st=95g457ay&dl=0 COZY is spayed, microchipped and up to date on all vaccinations. Story
Introducing Gambit - the name's not just a coincidence; it's a testament to my ability to shape my destiny. Just like my Marvel/X-Men namesake, I've overcome my past and now look forward to a brilliantly bright future. My journey started in a rather somber place - a lonely field next to a gas station. Thankfully, kind souls would drop by, leaving me food and their hopes for a better life. One day, a persistent and resourceful lady decided to play her "pawn" and orchestrated my escape from that grim existence. Since then, I've been living with her and her doggy (and human) family. But now, I'm eagerly searching for my own forever family. Let's talk quirks. I'm a cheerful guy, but I've got some personal space boundaries. I'm protective of my face, so a home with adults or older, dog-savvy kids is my ideal match. I'm also a bit of a goofball and adore the company of other dogs. Now, I might not instantly become your best buddy; I take time to trust and get comfortable in my surroundings. But trust me, the patience will be worth it. I'm brimming with love and loyalty, just waiting for the right family to share it with. Here's the good news - I'm house and crate trained, proving that, yes, young dogs can indeed learn new tricks. Oh, and there's more - I'm pretty chill around cats, though a gentle introduction is wise. And I've been curious and respectful around a human baby, so that's a plus. One thing to note, though, is that I've had some reservations around men. Despite two years together, I haven't quite warmed up to my human's fianc and have snapped at him a few times. So, it might be best if I find a home without men. During a short stay with Kathy, I was a little shy but kept to myself. If you're looking for a loyal companion with a dash of X-Men flair and you're ready to give me the chance I deserve, let's make it happen. I can't wait to meet you and start this exciting new chapter together! Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX)

Story
Desperately looking for a home for Sadie! She is a beagle/heeler mix, about 9 years old. She is caught up on her shots and comes with 2-months of food. She would be best in a home without other dogs or with a senior dog who is not hyper. She would do better with older kids; she is not bad with young kids, but she does not like people in her face. She will give a throat growl warning with no show of teeth, a 2nd warning that is a bit a louder, and 3rd warning will show teeth. If ignored she will snap at person or animal, but she has never broken skin. She chases cats, in or outdoor, and barks at them like crazy. She is house trained, no need for a crate but she would be okay in one if you prefer that. She is on a special UA food diet after having bladder stones removed in June 2023.

Story
This is Jemma. She is a super sweet cuddle bug that loves to play outside and spend the rest of the day relaxing. She turned 3 in March. House trained. We unfortunately do not have the time or energy she deserves and spends good majority of the day in her crate while we work. She is great with our kids and friendly to everyone she meets. She would make a great addition to any home that has the time she deserves.
