Story
Jango came to us heartworm positive and has undergone full treatment, and is ready for adoption. He is playful and sweet. He doesn’t love little kiddos so 10 years and older please. He is cat curious but left the cats in his foster alone. He likes other dogs and is currently fostered with several of all sizes and ages. He is housebroken and crate trained. He is a perfect little dude minus just not enjoying young children. He is fostered in Sioux City.

Story
Charlie is a Beagle/Rat Terrier mix, born 7/18/20.  He is a smart and active dog.  He is playful and enjoys activities such as fetch and tug-of-war.  He knows several commands, including sit, paw, high-five and lay down.  He also enjoys cuddling, but on his terms.  He needs slow and patient introductions to new people because he gets nervous and can be reactive towards unfamiliar people and situations. Charlie is housebroken and crate trained.  He's a little destructive when left alone, so Charlie should be kenneled until he learns the rules in his new place and you feel comfortable with him being left alone.  He will run out the front door if given the opportunity, so he will definitely need a fenced yard. Charlie needs someone who is patient, understanding and willing to work with him.  Ideally, he would be in a calm, quiet household and no young children.  He would be okay around older kids (age 6+).  Chaotic environments can be stressful for Charlie.  He is also sensitive to loud noises, such as fireworks and thunderstorms.  He currently lives with a mini-dachshund and they get along well, but he can be selective with other dogs.  He has never been around cats.  Charlie might do best in a home without other animals and then he doesn't have to worry about sharing his toys. The perfect person for Charlie will have some knowledge of resource guarding and be able to work with Charlie (or at least be willing to work with one of the Muddy Paws trainers).  Charlie will need his own personal space for dining so he feels comfortable and safe while he's eating. The suggested adoption donation for Charlie is $375, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training).  Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. We are a 100% volunteer rescue committed to giving animals a second chance at life. All donations go toward that mission. Adoption fees are the primary source of funding for the cost of veterinary care for our animals. In 2022 alone, we provided animal Healthcare totaling over $399,000 covered mainly through adoption fees. Please Note:  A Courtesy Post designates that an animal is still in the home of its owner and not in a Muddy Paws foster. This means that our exposure to the animal is limited since we are only assisting the owner in finding a new home for their pet. From time to time, owners find a new furever home for their pets outside of Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue and there is a delay in removing them from our site. We apologize if the Courtesy Post you apply to adopt is unavailable for adoption. Adoptions for Charlie are limited to the area within 50 miles of Omaha so that he can continue to take advantage of free training from our certified positive reinforcement trainers.       Information about the adoption process:  All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION. Once your application has completed our prescreen steps, we will put you in touch with the animal’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match. If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the animal. The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. We do not ship or deliver. Please Note:  We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks, and a Home Visit (Virtual in some cases) during the application approval process. We always select the right applicant for each animal, based on the animal’s needs. If you and the animal are not a good match, we will help you select another animal, or we will keep your approved application on file for 6 months. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.German Shepherd dogs, as well as the other herding breeds that we have in rescue, are highly active, energetic, working breeds. They require considerable vetting, exercise, socialization, training, leadership and mental stimuli in order to be well-adjusted, well-balanced, and well-mannered dogs. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills. These breeds make great additions to active families who will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart dogs who need leadership, structure, plenty of activity and mental stimulation. If you are new to German Shepherds (and other herding breeds), please research the breed to make sure this is the dog for you. We ask that you consider the time and financial commitment that your German Shepherd (or other herding breed) dog will require before applying for one. Please review the section on our website (www.heartlandgsrescue.org) 'Is a HUGS Dog Right for You?' for additional information. Mariah is a very sweet 1.5 year old pup. At 46 lbs, she would be a great addition for someone looking for a medium sized pup, with a fabulous personality! She gets along well with other dogs, loves to play and especially run around the yard. She is adorably interactive and will even share her opinion at times. She's a doll who's eager to please. She does well in a crate, and has been learning new commands quickly in her foster home. She loves to snuggle with her humans and looks for any belly rub opportunities.Mariah has a short, sleek coat which is easy to brush and dry. She is shiny, smooth and sleek like a little seal. She has a quiet and gentle demeanor, and she also has a sunny disposition that makes you smile! She is the sweetest girl. She is well behaved, rides well in the car, and has all the makings to be a wonderful family pet. Like any of our dogs, this sweetheart would make a great addition to an active home that will provide love, structure, good leadership, activity and mental stimulation.  Because of that, Mariah's ideal owner will have prior experience. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, please remember  that you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings, in order to provide sufficient stimulation, ward off boredom, and work on leash skills, and manners.   Mariah's adoption fee is $325, all of which goes back into offsetting our high-cost vetting expenses and rescuing more dogs.  We are a 100% volunteer-run rescue group and rely on adoption fees and donations to continue saving lives. Adoption fees include spay/neuter, current on age-appropriate vaccinations, fecal, deworming, flea/tick and heartworm preventative, heartworm tested if old enough (and treated if positive), and microchipped. Please visit http://heartlandgsrescue.rescuegroups.org/info/adoption for more information about our adoption process and requirements, and to apply.   Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please review the information in the 'About Us', 'Important Considerations' and 'Adopt' sections on our website menu, as it contains useful information about the breed, adoption fees, the adoption process and our requirements, and how meeting the dogs works.May 18, 2025, 11:03 am

Story
Mana is a sweet dog that loves to nap, be outside, and go for hikes. She is calm and well-behaved. I adopted her from a humane society, and she adjusted well to my household. Her exact age is unknown, but the best guess is 7 years old. All shots are up to date, and there are no health issues. My life and job situation are changing, and I am looking for a safe and loving home for her.
