Story
Emma is a gorgeous beagle mix who came to us from local animal control in search of a forever home. She just turned 1 year old and weighs 25lbs. Emma is a typical energetic and playful young pup who will need a family willing to train her and work on leash manners. She a sweet girl who enjoys being with people as well as running around with toys. She's done well with the dogs she's met here so far. She is definitely excitable and can be a bit loud, which some dogs do not enjoy. She has a big boisterous beagle personality that we love. Emma is an absolute love and will melt in your lap. She is a super cute and quirky girl who would love a family to call her own!

Story
Sweet, sensitive, shy Penny seeks a quiet, loving, and patient retirement home; could it be yours? Miss Penny is estimated to be nearing eleven years of age and weighs in at 22 pounds. Her breed mix is unknown, and without a DNA test, we cannot say with certainty what breeds combined to create our beautiful girl, but we suspect Beagle and Jack Russell or other similar terriers in her family tree. This precious little lady was adopted from Pal's Place in June 2014 when she was about six months old. Ten years later, a now senior, mature Penny has been returned to Pal's Place and has again found herself searching for a family to spend her golden years with. Penny's previous adopters welcomed a new baby into their home several months ago, and Penny was having difficulty adjusting to the new, tiny human in the home. Penny was nervous and unsure around the infant. Her previous adopters felt she was living in a constant state of anxiety and stress and thought it best she be returned to the rescue for placement in a child-free home. Penny has been in the care of a Pal's Place foster home for several weeks now and is adjusting to her new reality. After losing the only family she's ever known after a decade, she was very scared, confused, and depressed, understandably so, when she first arrived. Her wonderful, nurturing foster parent has given Penny lots of time, patience, space, and love to decompress and acclimate to her foster home. At first, Penny was not interested in interacting with her foster parent at all and would do all she could to avoid them. After a few weeks, she slowly started getting comfortable and would accept a few pets from her new caregiver. She's slowly getting braver and more relaxed. Penny now follows her foster around the house, sits on the couch with them, and offers up some tail wags and smiles when greeting them. She is food-motivated, so many yummy, small, high-value treats have helped Penny bond with new humans. She also loves a good game of fetch with one of her stuffies, and Miss P's foster parent incorporates several short play sessions into her day to help facilitate trust and bonding. She is still spooked by quick or sudden movements of her foster parent and still prefers a very slow, deliberate approach. Penny is and most likely will always be extremely shy and skittish with new people and will need guardians who will understand this aspect of her temperament. She is housebroken, crate trained, and quiet and well-behaved in the home. Penny is being fostered in a home with several other dogs and gets along well with her temporary canine siblings. We feel she may adjust more quickly to her forever home if another dog is in the home. Many shy, nervous, or timid dogs thrive in homes with other dogs as they will look to other pups for cues, comfort, confidence, and support. However, this is not a requirement for her adoption as she has lived for the past ten years as the only dog in the home. Her ideal home is a quiet, adult-only environment with guardians willing and able to give her all the time, love, understanding, and patience she will need to adjust to a new home and new people. Guardians who will not expect her to be affectionate or lovey-dovey with them immediately and ones willing to put in the time and effort to earn her trust. While she may need some extra time and space to bond and trust, once she does, the love, affection, loyalty, playfulness, and companionship she'll return to you will be well worth the effort, and knowing you've helped heal her broken heart by offering her the retirement home she deserves will be incredibly rewarding for all. Penny is anxious for her happily ever after; please apply to meet her today! Penny is spayed, microchipped, up-to-date with vaccines, taking monthly flea and heartworm prevention, and is a very healthy mature pooch! Her adoption fee to the rescue is $275. She is in a foster home on Chicago's north side and can be seen by appointment only after an application has been submitted. For more information or an application, please email palsplace1@hotmail.com or visit palsplacerescue.org. Unfortunately, we cannot place holds on our dogs for any reason. Please do not apply unless you are willing and prepared to welcome a dog into your home within three days of applying. • Penny's adoption fee is $275. This fee helps cover any necessary medical care to prepare her for adoption. Your donation also helps save other animals like Penny from euthanasia. Pal's Place is a volunteer organization funded entirely by donations and adoption fees. 100% of our fees and donations go directly to the care of our rescued dogs. • Please visit palsplacerescue.org or email Palsplace1@hotmail.com for an adoption application with the dog's name in the subject line. Story
Say hello to Trina! This super sweet girl is looking for a wonderful home. She needs a family that will treat her like the princess she deserves to be. Trina came to us with obvious signs of neglect. Under the watchful eyes and TLC of her foster home, she has flourished and feels so much better. While she has come so far, she needs a loving family that will continue to monitor some of the medical issues she came to us with. Her foster mom has been managing a prescription diet for allergies and twice daily eye drops. Trina has been doing so well and deserves this care. Trina brings so much to the table that having a few medical things to manage for her is nothing compared to what you will get from her. She is completely house broken, loves car rides, is crate trained, loves to sleep in. She's also leash trained and loves squeaky toys. Trina is also a huge snuggle bug and is happiest curled up with you in bed or on the couch. Such a sweetheart given all that she's been through. Trina is approximately 8 years old and would do best in a home with no young children. She has not been tested with cats but does well with other dogs that match her energy. She also does not require a home with a fenced in yard. Please consider giving this sweet girl a wonderful home! Local adoptions only. We do not adopt out of the state of Illinois. Trina is being fostered in a private home. Appointments to meet her will be set up for approved adopters only. Her adoption fee is $200 which includes all age appropriate vaccines. She is spayed, microchipped and Heartworm negative. She has also been kept on both flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. Please visit our website and fill out an application if you are interested. http://newstartdogrescue.org
