You can see how much he has changed from his photos – he came to TBBR with an injured leg, itchy skin, and no fur on his tail or nose. He has transformed into a very handsome guy! Wilson loves to walk and has good energy for an older guy – he loves a good squeaky toy and will bring it back to you time and time again. It’s clear he has not had a lot of love in his life, so he will follow you everywhere. He needs at least two walks a day to help him with his anxiety. He also loves riding in the CAR! He will curl up next to you in the evenings on the couch and will sleep quietly on a dog bed at night. Wilson has just completed a training camp and he is doing much better with his reactivity around other dogs. He is food motivated and eager to please; he will sit nicely for a treat and “shake” his paw. He would prefer to be an only dog but could be placed with a female dog if you are willing to work with him. He also needs a household without small children as he can get a little grumpy if you touch his leg in the wrong spot. He has not been tested around cats but does not seem bothered by them. He is much braver when he is with another beagle. His head is up and his tail is wagging when he has a beagle buddy. He will also approach people to get petted if they are petting another beagle. He likes to be petted and quietly inches towards you, hoping you will pet him (even if another dog is not present!) He enjoys being loved on and spoken to softly. It took three weeks before Beau jumped up on the couch himself. Since then he has decided people furniture is great! He also feels that he is completely safe when he is on furniture and that any human can walk up to him and love on him when he is there. Beau also has decided he would like to be a bed dog, but unfortunately, in his foster caregiver's home, foster dogs are not allowed to be bed dogs. Because Beau does so well with other dogs, which helps him adjust to living the good life, we would like him to be adopted by a family that has another dog. If not, he will need a very patient and understanding caretaker. Beau is house-trained and uses a dog door.He loves dog beds and he sleeps well on one next to his foster caretaker's bed. Beau likes dog toys and he shares them well with other dogs. He will also share his food with the other dogs so we have to shoo away any dogs that take advantage of this. Within one day, Beau captured his foster mom's heart. We are sure he will capture yours, too. Beau is heartworm-positive so if he is adopted while his treatment is ongoing, the adopter will need to live within driving distance of one of our veterinarians. He also loves toys and often carries them around the house. Gustav does well with dogs in the home but can be reactive to dogs when he is leashed or in a open space like the dogs part. He could also be an only dog with no problem. Gustav loves car rides, especially to get a pup cup or go through the bank drive-thru. He also seems to like wearing clothes and is happy to wear any outfit his foster family has found for him. Almost every single day either Duke's foster mom or foster dad says, 'Duke is a really good dog!' - because he is! Please be sure to check out the video clip below. He is a well behaved, good looking fellow. Duke has been in his foster home for several months now and his disposition has been exemplary. Although he is definitely into lizards and squirrels his recall is amazingly good and he will run to you and sit down right in front of you. Most often he has a happy grin on his face. He also crates very well as long as there's a promise of at least a small treat for him when he goes in. His crate is where he has his meals and sleeps at night. House training has been excellent from day one. Duke is moderate energy but really needs a fenced yard and he could jump a 4 ft fence easily. He does like to run but also enjoys just lying about surveying his property and watching for the squirrels and lizards! He loves affection and, although he doesn't pester or beg for it, he's ready anytime you are! Duke is wonderful at just curling up next to you on the couch, content to be at your side. He came to us full of fear and uncertainty but his gentle spirit was always evident with every wag of his tail. Wary at first, he was cautiously approaching for a quick lick or sniff and now he is seeking affection regularly, even climbing up into his foster dad's lap. Foster dad says, "He will crawl toward me in the morning and roll over onto his back for belly rubs and to be scratched under his chin. He jumps up and down like a pogo stick at my rear sliding door along with Bear when it's time to eat. He loves his food! He also adores car rides anywhere and watches everything that goes on outside of the car." Vinny LOVES playing with other dogs and being outdoors. He is housebroken and doesn't get into any trouble when left outside of his crate when Dad is gone for an hour or two. Though we know adjustment challenges lie ahead when he goes to a new home, Vinny is ready. He will require a fenced yard and would do best in a home with another friendly and playful dog. Unfortunately, Vinny did retest a very light positive for heartworms on his retest. After treatment. We are doing another month of doxycycline and our optimistic he will not have to have injections again. He loves to be outside smelling everything and does have a beautiful beagle bay when on a scent. He's very obedient though, so his foster mom lets him do his thing for a bit and then brings him inside. Kris loves mealtime but has no issues with sharing his bowl! He's very good with other dogs. He sleeps on the sofa, in a lounge chair or in a dog bed - wherever, and he doesn't mind if another houndie wants to share his space. Kris has also begun to take an interest in squeaky toys. He will run around with them in his mouth and then take them all outside. :) Kris came to us in mid April from a wonderful rescue organization in Mississippi. He is estimated to be about 14 years old but his activity level is perfect for his age - moderate with plenty of time to relax and smell the roses. He is positive for heartworms but the advice of more than one veterinarian is not to treat. He can be a little shy in the beginning but once he warms up he is super affectionate and makes a definite connection with his humans. He loves to play with other dogs but can can be awkward if they are not friendly to him. He is becoming more socially experienced because his foster parents pet-sit and Andy has the opportunity to meet many other dogs. Andy is still pretty young and has a moderately high energy level. He has great house manners, gets extremely high marks with potty training and is really cool about staying in a crate when needed. Currently in his foster home he eats his meals and sleeps at night in his crate in the bedroom but he is not left alone for very long as the family is retired. Andy was heartworm positive but completeld his treatment back in July. Most all of her life was spent in an outdoor, elevated box, just being let out a few times a year to hunt. She's very quiet and gentle, and loves to be paid attention to. As soon as you stop loving on her she will scamper about in a happy dance that will make you laugh! When Pippy is on the move, she has the most adorable little trot. She has a LOT more energy than you would expect for her estimated age. Pippy loves to be outdoors and learned quite quickly how to use the dog door in her foster home. She's made straight A's in house training. Crating is no problem and she will often choose to nap there if the door is open. She is very friendly with other dogs and would probably play if one would play back gently. If they are too rough she will skitter away. Pippi's heart has suffered a bit from the heartworms, the medication she's been on has helped and we were able to move forward with a much needed dental. She is feeling so much better! We have also been able to have her spayed and removed some mammary tumors. We have, however, decided that it is in Pippy's best interest to do the slow kill method of heartworm treatment. We want her to have the very best quality of life because she is enjoying herself so much now! Please consider opening your home and heart to this little girl. He's a very good boy who loves attention and will lay his head on your lap for you to pet him. His house training is great although he marked his territory a little when he first got to his foster home. Elvis will go to the door when he wants to go out to the fenced yard, and when he wants to come in he will come to the door and scratch. He comes to his name but also comes to a whistle. He pretty much ignores the cats and only appears mildly inquisitive when he sees a squirrel. At night he sleeps on a dog bed in the bedroom with the rest of the dogs. He is fine with strangers and, although Foster mom works from home and they have not really left him alone much, he appears to do fine when he has been. He just sits with the other dogs and stares out the window. Elvis knows how to sit and is definitely food motivated. He loves being with his people, loves cuddles and loves being with the other dogs. Elvis is heartworm positive and is scheduled for his treatment the end of the first week of January.
