Good with dogs,
Story
Dog name: Betty Boop  Breed: beagle  Sex: female Age: approximately 10 years Weight: 20 pounds  Medical Needs: Betty Boop has lived a hard life, and her body shows it.    She’s not spayed, her teeth are bad, she has mammary tumors (they’re being biopsied on 2/17) and a mass on her hind end.  In addition, she has a grade 3/4 heart murmur that makes it unsafe for her to go under anesthesia to fix anything mentioned above.  For that reason, she is technically hospice, and will need a home willing to give her all the love for the time she has left. However long that may be.  Good in a crate: Yes and no. She sleeps all night without making a peep. If she is crated during the day and she knows you're there, be prepared for some noise. Good in the car: Yes, Betty is harnessed in the back on her dog bed and she lays right down. She is perfect in the car! Good on a leash: Yes, she's got tiny legs but she walks nicely and has no problems walking a mile and a half daily. Energy level: medium  For her age she is pretty spry. She likes walks and letting her hound nose do some sniffing. She enjoys wandering around the back yard, playing with toys and she has recently started playing with her very playful foster sister. Need a fenced in yard: No, she will be fine with leashed walks. Dog Friendly: Yes If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive home? No Cat Friendly? There are no cats in her current foster home, but I believe she's been exposed to cats. I don't think there would be an issue. Kid Friendly: There are no children in her foster home, but I believe she would be friendly with all ages. That being said, she's not a dog that's going to be a playmate for a child. She's very small, frequently gets underfoot, and would probably do best in a quieter home. If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? 8 and up Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know: Betty Boop came from a neglectful living situation and was taken in by a good Samaritan who was no longer able to keep her. Dogs are so resilient and it's amazing that she is so friendly to people and that she has adapted so easily to life in a home. She is quite the shadow, following her foster parents wherever they go. This girl is looking for a soft place to land and enjoy her golden years.. Foster location: Betty Boop is being fostered in Dover, Delaware. If you're interested in Betty Boop, you can find an application at grrde.org/adoption-application. Story
Meet Judith! Judith recently arrived to HAP with her eight siblings and the two sisters she came to Rehoboth with have found their furever homes so Judith is patiently waiting for her turn! She's a spunky, energetic, wiggly little hound mix and there has not been a toy, other dog, place, or person she has not fallen in love with! Seriously, she has the best personality and will instantly melt your heart and will instantly make new friends with other pups! Judith also met a few children and she did incredibly well with them. One of the cutest things about Judith is her little wiggle butt that she does when she gets so excited - which is a lot! Even though she's a young pup and still working on her puppy manners, she's coming along really well and is very treat motivated. Judith would make a great addition to any home so stop by today to see if Judith is your girl! Puppies require a significant amount of structure, routine, time, patience, and training to learn how to behave properly in a home. The first few months of having a puppy is a critical time to establish boundaries and help your puppy understand what they can expect from you and what you expect from them. Remember, puppies aren’t born knowing how to live in a human’s world, it is up to you to teach them how to make good decisions in a positive and caring manner. The more positive interactions they have in their first year of life will set them up for better behavior in the future. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.
