At 1 year old, he’s got just the right mix of youthful enthusiasm and well-mannered maturity, making him an ideal companion for just about any home. Shep was rescued from a high-kill shelter, but you’d never know it from his sunny disposition—this boy lives every day like it’s the best day ever! A Day in the Life of Shep Mornings with Shep begin with soft little sounds from his crate around 7:45 AM, letting us know he’s awake and ready for the day. He patiently waits to be let out before greeting his humans with full-body wiggles, tail wags, and happy kisses. After a quick potty break in the yard, he enjoys breakfast side by side with his 55-pound American Bully foster sister—both eating respectfully and sometimes sneaking glances at each other’s bowls. Once breakfast is done, he’s off for a second potty break and then playtime, either with his foster sister, his beloved chew toys, or by zooming around the backyard. A morning walk is one of Shep’s favorite parts of the day. He runs over eagerly when he sees his harness and leash, knowing it’s time to explore. Shep is curious about everything—he loves sniffing the world, meeting new people, and making friends with other leashed dogs. He doesn’t chase squirrels and has made great strides in his leash manners, improving every day with treats and encouragement. The rest of Shep’s day is a perfect balance of play and relaxation. He rotates between romping in the yard, chewing on his favorite toys, and curling up for cozy naps in the family room. His favorite place to nap? Right next to his people, preferably on a soft blanket on the couch. If he gets a little too enthusiastic during playtime, he’s easily redirected or content to settle down with a good chew toy. He’s learning when to take breaks, and his foster sister is helping him master the art of the well-timed nap. Dinner rolls around at 4:30 PM, and Shep is always ready for it! Evenings are filled with more play, snuggles, and winding down with his humans. By bedtime, he’s happily curled up in his crate, sleeping peacefully until morning. Shep’s Personality: A Big Heart in a Medium-Sized Body From the moment he arrived in his foster home, Shep’s playful and affectionate nature shined through. He was immediately drawn to his foster sister’s toy basket, joyfully pulling out every single neglected treasure as if he’d just discovered the world’s best surprise. His love for play is matched only by his love for people—he adores human company and wants to be wherever the action is. If someone is cooking, he’ll pop in to check on them. If someone moves to another room, he’s likely to follow just to see what’s going on. He’s a social butterfly, always curious and engaged. Shep is also incredibly smart. He already knew “sit,” “shake,” and “down” when he arrived, and he’s quickly learning new commands like “go to your crate.” He pays close attention when you talk to him, often tilting his head in that adorable way that makes it seem like he’s really trying to understand every word. He responds well to both food and play as training rewards, making him a joy to work with. At his core, Shep is a happy, loving dog who thrives on companionship. Whether he’s greeting you with excited wiggles, curling up beside you for a nap, or gazing up at you with his soulful eyes, he makes it impossible not to smile. Shep & Friends: Dogs, People, and Adventures Shep is a social pup who enjoys the company of other dogs. He and his foster sister play well together, and he’s respectful when she needs a break. He’s met other dogs on walks and at a friend’s house, always excited and eager to make new friends. When it comes to people, Shep is an absolute sweetheart. He has happily welcomed friends and family of all ages into his foster home, and he’s always ready to shower his humans with affection. He hasn’t been around young kids yet, but given his gentle and loving nature, he would likely do well with dog-savvy children. Shep has also proven to be a great car companion. Whether he’s crated or riding shotgun, he’s calm and curious, making him a great travel buddy for future adventures. The Perfect Home for Shep Shep would love a home where he can get plenty of playtime, walks, and affection. A house with a backyard would be ideal so he can romp around and get his zoomies out, but he’d also do well in a home where his humans are committed to regular walks and enrichment. He thrives on companionship, so he’d be happiest in a home where someone is around to spend time with him. Shep is looking for a family who will continue to build on the great progress he’s made, helping him grow into an even more confident and well-mannered pup. In return, he promises to fill your home with laughter, love, and plenty of tail wags. If you’re ready for a playful, loving, and endlessly entertaining companion, Shepherd’s Pie is waiting to meet you!Shepherd Pie is an option for a home that has dog experience. If there are children they need to be over the age of 5.February 11, 2025, 5:24 pm

Story
Sweet Carter has been waiting for more than a year(!) for his forever family to come. This handsome doggo has the all-American good looks of a beagle but lots more energy to go with his long legs. He'd love being your running or hiking partner. At a minimum, he needs to run in a back yard or get a daily game of fetch. He’s at his sweetest when he’s calm and relaxed. * loves people * needs daily exercise * fully potty trained w/only the occasional accident * loves roughhousing with other big dogs (see his picture with shelter bestie Reba) * loves toys, especially balls * older kids okay (might play too roughly for little ones) * highly trainable and eager to please His outgoing personality makes Carter a joy to be around. He has so much love to give someone who can help him channel his joy for life. So if you're looking for an energetic, sweet, and trainable companion who will thrive in an active and patient environment, Carter may be the perfect match for you! FAAS offers free canine training with every dog adoption. Help Carter achieve his full social potential with classes at your local canine charm school, and FAAS will reimburse up to $200. I am at Oakland Animal Services in kennel Dog E:7Presenting adoptable Garrett!  He is a super cute medium-sized young dog.  He is currently 28 pounds but needs to add some weight.  He has a stocky build that’s sure to fill out into a nice chonk. Garrett is a toy connoisseur who enjoys pets and attention. While he is friendly and well mannered with people, Garrett has not been interested in making dog friends at the shelter and may be happiest as a solo dog. He has a solid sit already but could learn so much more.  He is responsive and wants to please, as well as get some tasty treats.  Come meet this adorable baby face at Oakland Animal Services. He is sure to charm you!February 7, 2025, 8:52 pm

Story
Meet Freebow, the coolest Beagle boy in town! This super chill and mellow dude knows how to take life easy. Whether it’s snoozing on a comfy couch or just hanging out by your side, Freebow is all about the simple joys. He’s got the sweetest eyes that’ll melt your heart and a laid-back vibe that makes every day feel like Sunday. Freebow’s favorite hobbies include lounging and getting belly rubs. If you’re looking for a low-maintenance, calm companion who’ll bring peace and love to your home, Freebow’s your guy! Here's some notes from his foster: Meet Freebow, a sweet boy who is oh-so go with the flow. Freebow is a very curious chap, who takes his window watching time very seriously. On walks, he loves to explore- one of his fav past times is trying to figure out what is in the gopher holes on the beach! When he is not exploring, he loves to chill and be snuggly. Freebow is obviously quite the looker- but his personality makes him 547573298 times cuter! From his cute little waddle, to his big brown eyes that look straight into your soul. He likes to go on walks, as long as it's not raining, and does well on a leash! He is also potty-trained, a good eater, and pretty much perfect. This lil man is so calm and chill, he would do great in a home with other dogs and seems to like children when we run into them on walks. The only time he barks is when he is snuggling on your lap and hears a knock at the door! He gets very attached and loves his human, but he doesn't feel the need to follow you everywhere. If your looking for a sweet, mellow friend who will light up your life, look now further than Freebow!
