Come meet Maggie and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (September 9th) from 12-3 pm at the Petsmart in Rockville (5154 Nicholson Ln, Kensington, MD 20895) Name: Maggie Best Guess for Breed: Basset Hound Best Guess for Age: 2 yrs 4 months as of July 2024 Gender: Female Approximate Weight: 39 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We have tested Maggie with some of the cats at the shelter, and she did not seem particularly interested in chasing or pouncing on the cat. While this is a positive sign that she could live with a cat, he/she has not done so to our knowledge. If you have cats in your home, we are happy to discuss with you how to best introduce a new pup to your pack! Currently Living At: Shelter, needs a foster or forever home! Special Adoption Considerations: Maggie is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs. All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care. After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months. All of our dogs are working on their crate training.
