Story
Hi, I’m Daisy – Your Future Queen! I’m an 8-year-old, pleasantly plump Basset Hound looking for a family to spoil me with love, cuddles, and treats fit for royalty! I came to BROOD from a home where I ate a little too much human food, and now the vet says I need to lose about 15 pounds to be at my best. My foster family is helping me with my weight loss journey, and I’ll need a family that’s willing to keep me on track with healthy meals and exercise.I love being outside, exploring at my own pace, or just soaking up the sun. I need a home with a fenced yard (no invisible fences, please) since walks aren’t really my thing. I prefer to move at my own speed! I do best in a peaceful neighborhood because loud noises really scare me. No city, apartment, or condo life for me—I’m all about the quiet life!I need to be the only dog in the house because I love having all the attention for myself. Cats? No thanks, they just don’t get me. Since I get startled easily when I’m napping (and I do love my naps), I’d do best in a home with kids over 12 who know to let me rest in peace. I’m happy to sleep in my crate at night, but I might bark if I’m left in there during the day while you’re out. So I will need a family that is home a lot. I will need experienced Basset owners only. My personality can be a little unpredictable, so I need a family that knows how to handle reactive dogs.I love food—pizza, burgers, chicken, you name it! I’m learning to like dog treats too, especially milk bones. But I’ve been known to sneak onto chairs to grab food if you’re not watching! If you’re looking for a lovable, quirky, and food-loving queen to rule your home, I’m the Basset for you! My adoption fee is $200.00.**Only BROOD-approved adopters can meet a dog (no exceptions). Our adoption application is on the BROOD website at https://brood-va.org/adoptionapp/. We adopt to residents of Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, DC, Delaware, and southern Pennsylvania. Do not apply to adopt from BROOD if you live in another state. We require a virtual home visit and a veterinary reference. The age of many BROOD dogs is unknown, as very few come with official records. The estimate on the dog’s age is usually the initial estimate given by the receiving shelter, which may be different from that given at the time of the initial checkup. Different veterinarians may also give different ages, and those different opinions are sometimes reflected

Story
I`m Zoey, a sweet and snuggly 7-month-old Basset mix who’s looking for my forever family. I came to BROOD after my previous family realized just how much energy and attention us puppies need. Even though we`re known for being laid-back, I’m still full of curiosity and love learning new things!Right now, I`m working hard on my house training and rarely have accidents. It doesn`t take me long to bond with my people—I love being close to my family, and I thrive on attention. That’s why I need to be the only dog in the home; I want all the cuddles and affection for myself! I also don’t get along with cats and will happily chase them around, so a cat-free home is best for me.While I may still be discovering my personality, one thing’s for sure: I’m great with kids and love spending time with them. Whether we’re playing or cuddling, I’m always ready for fun!If you’re ready to add some extra love and companionship to your life, I’d love to meet you! Contact BROOD today to start our journey together. My adoption fee is $250.00.**Only BROOD-approved adopters can meet a dog (no exceptions). Story
I’m Lenny, a laid-back, lovable Basset Hound around 6 years old, looking for my forever home. I was found as a stray, so my past is a bit of a mystery, but it’s clear I enjoyed some good meals along the way! I do have a few extra pounds, so my new family will need to help me stay on track with my fitness and health.I’m house-trained, crate-trained, and a quiet guy who enjoys watching the world go by. I love people of all ages and get along well with other dogs, though I’m at the point in life where I’m happy with short play sessions before settling down for a nap. My foster family says I enjoy hanging out with their dogs but would also be perfectly content as an only dog.Since I’m not a high-energy pup, I don’t need a fenced yard and would be just as happy in a cozy apartment or condo. I like taking leisurely strolls around the yard and going on the occasional short walk, but marathons aren’t my thing! Car rides are one of my favorite pastimes, and I’m happiest just being wherever my family is.I’m a sweet, mellow guy who would be a wonderful addition to any family. If you’re looking for a loving companion who’s easygoing and adores naps, I’m your match! Contact BROOD today to start our journey together. My adoption fee is $300.00.**Only BROOD-approved adopters can meet a dog (no exceptions). Our adoption application is on the BROOD website at https://brood-va.org/adoptionapp/. Story
I’m Doobie, a cuddly, snuggly, lovable 8-year-old classic Basset Hound who’s ready for a fresh start. I came to BROOD when my family had to move, and although I was a bit sad at first, I’ve settled in quickly with my foster family!I’m fully house-trained and can use a doggie door, and while crating isn’t my thing (I’m a bit too independent for that), I’m so well-behaved that I don’t need one! Even though I’m considered a “mature” pup, I still have plenty of energy and love to play! I enjoy running with other dogs at the park and adore toys, especially chew bones. Just keep an eye on those stuffed toys, as I’m known to un-stuff them in record time!I’m quite the talker and will let you know when it’s time to go outside, when dinner’s ready, or if I’m just happy you’re home. I’m a bit sad when my family leaves, but I settle down quickly and take a nice, long snooze until they return. My ideal home would have a fenced yard since I’m not the best on leash and could use some work on my walking manners. Car rides aren’t my favorite either, as I get a bit too excited and vocal until I’m back out again! And one last note—I’m not a fan of cats, so a cat-free home is best for me.I get along well with people, children, and other dogs, and I’d love a canine sibling, though I’d also be happy as an only dog. As long as I have a cozy couch, a loving family, and plenty of belly rubs, I’ll be as happy as can be!If you’re looking for a sweet companion who’ll keep you company all winter, contact BROOD today. Let’s make some memories together! My adoption fee is $150.00.**Only BROOD-approved adopters can meet a dog (no exceptions). Story
Hi, I’m Flint—though sometimes I’m called “Flash” when my zoomies kick in! I’m a charming mix, mostly Beagle with a hint of Basset, and I love to follow my nose wherever it leads. I was found as a stray, so my full story is a mystery, but I’m about 6 years old and a petite 30 pounds.I do have two easy-to-manage medical needs: a low-functioning thyroid (I take meds twice a day, which don’t cost much and are easy to add to my food) and a skin condition that makes my coat a bit oily. Weekly baths keep me feeling and looking my best, and I actually enjoy bathtime—more scratches for me! BROOD’s medical director would be happy to answer any questions you may have.I’m adaptable and would fit well into almost any family. I love other dogs (check out my video!), though I’d be just as happy as an only dog, too. I get along with cats and prefer to just let them be. I adore people and children of all ages; Halloween was a highlight, with so many kids in costume giving me pets and scratches! I’m a quiet guy, so I’d make a great neighbor for those in apartments or townhomes.I enjoy spending time in the yard, but I’d be fine in a home without a fenced yard as long as I get plenty of short walks. I’m working on housetraining and getting better at letting my family know when I need to go out. Crate training is coming along too, and though I bark a bit at first, I quickly settle down with a chewy bone and enjoy a nap. I’m a quick learner and am already practicing “sit”!If you’re looking for a friendly, easy-going, and cuddly companion, I might just be the perfect match for you! Story
Wren is a beautiful 4 year old, female Hound who captured our hearts the moment she stepped paw into our shelter. This shy girl is a stray who had wandered on to a property along with Fern, starving and looking for food. Wren may be shy at first, but once she warms up to you, she'll be your faithful companion. She adores the company of other dogs and would thrive in a home with a friendly pup to be her friend and show her the ropes. She's a happy dog who just needs a patient and understanding home to help her come out of her shell. We believe that with a little love and care, Wren will blossom into the perfect companion. Wren has been spayed, vaccinated, tested, given dewormer, microchipped and started on flea/tick prevention, heartworm tested (NEGATIVE) and given heartworm prevention.
