Story
Hi, I’m Daisy – Your Future Queen! I’m an 8-year-old, slightly plump Basset Hound looking for a family to spoil me with love, cuddles, and treats fit for royalty. My foster family is helping me with my weight loss journey, and I’ll need a family that’s willing to keep me on track with healthy meals and exercise.I am fully house-trained. I love being outside, exploring at my own pace, or just soaking up the sun. I need a home with a fenced yard (no invisible fences, please) since walks aren’t really my thing. I prefer to move at my own speed. I do best in a peaceful neighborhood because loud noises really scare me. No city, apartment, or condo life for me—I’m all about the quiet life. I am crate-trained and sleep quietly there through the night. I love cats and I would do well with cat(s) that get along with dogs. I sleep with the cat in my foster home sometimes. I get along with other dogs, but I need time to adjust to a new environment and can sometimes be reactive toward other dogs. So, BROOD recommends a home without other dogs due to the adjustment period I need. I like routines and will put myself to bed at night in my crate sometimes. I’d do best in a home with kids 12 or older who know to leave me alone when I am sleeping. If you’re looking for a lovable, quirky, and food-loving queen to rule your home, I’m the Basset for you! My adoption fee is $200.00.**Only BROOD-approved adopters can meet a dog (no exceptions). Our adoption application is on the BROOD website at https://brood-va.org/adoptionapp/. We adopt to residents of Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, DC, Delaware, and southern Pennsylvania. Do not apply to adopt from BROOD if you live in another state. We require a virtual home visit and a veterinary reference. The age of many BROOD dogs is unknown, as very few come with official records. The estimate on the dog’s age is usually the initial estimate given by the receiving shelter, which may be different from that given at the time of the initial checkup. Different veterinarians may also give different ages, and those different opinions are sometimes reflected on the record. ***BROOD’s adoption fees are determined based on the age of the dog. 11/19/2024

Story
I`m Zoey, a sweet and snuggly 7-month-old Basset mix who’s looking for my forever family. I came to BROOD after my previous family realized just how much energy and attention us puppies need. Even though the Basset breed is known for being laid-back, I’m still full of curiosity and love learning new things!Right now, I`m working hard on my house training. I will need a home with a fenced yard as I don’t typically go potty on walks. I am easily distracted by the sights and smells of my environment and forget to do my business. I am crate trained and always keep it clean and dry during the day and overnight. It doesn`t take me long to bond with my people—I love being close to my family, and I thrive on attention. That’s why I need to be the only dog in the home; I want all the cuddles and affection for myself! I also don’t get along with cats and will happily chase them around, so a cat-free home is best for me. I love playing with toys and can often entertain myself with play. While I may still be discovering my personality, one thing’s for sure: I’m great with kids and love spending time with them. Due to my high energy level and tendency to jump up, I’d be best in a home with older children. Whether we’re playing or cuddling, I’m always ready for fun!If you’re ready to add some extra love and companionship to your life, I’d love to meet you! Contact BROOD today to start our journey together. My adoption fee is $250.00.**Only BROOD-approved adopters can meet a dog (no exceptions). Story
My name Indy for short. I have an adventurous streak and love exploring the world! I’m a 5-year-old Basset mix found as a stray. When I first came to BROOD, I had a heartworm infection, but after treatment, I’m now healthy, happy, and ready for an active life! Now that I’m feeling great, I absolutely love going on walks! I do get a bit excited and tend to pull, but I’m working on my leash manners every day. I’m working on my house training so I’ll need a patient family to help me fully master this skill.True to my hound roots, I’m quite vocal and enjoy sharing my thoughts—whether it’s about my day, spotting a deer, or letting you know it’s mealtime. A home with a fenced yard would be ideal for me, as I love roaming, sniffing, and soaking up the outdoors. I would not do well in an apartment or condo. I’m a people-lover and make friends with everyone I meet, including kids who stop for a quick pet on my walks. I get along with other dogs but would be ok by myself. I enjoy playing with toys, especially a Kong stuffed with snacks, and I’m always up for learning new tricks if there are treats involved. I already know commands like “sit,” “down,” and “kennel.”If you’re looking for a loyal, adventurous, and sweet companion, I’m your guy! Contact BROOD today to start our adventures together. Story
Hi, I’m Buttercup! I’m a 2-year-old Basset mix. Found as a stray, my past is a bit of a mystery, but I think I spent most of my life as an outdoor dog. Now that I’ve discovered home life, I’m loving all the cuddles, cozy couch naps, and attention—it’s a whole new world for me!I’m making great progress with house training, though transitioning from outdoor life has been a learning curve. I’m crate-trained and sleep soundly through the night. I would do best in a home with a fenced yard. I’m happiest in a home with another dog. I get along with all dogs but feel most comfortable with those closer to my size or with gentle personalities. Cats? No problem—I’m fine with them, too!I love people and thrive on being a pampered pet. I’m great with school aged children. I’m a quiet girl and don’t bark much. Instead, I make the cutest little chirps and whines. I’m also a quick learner, especially when there are treats involved. I’m a sweet, loving, and gentle soul who’s sure to warm your heart. Contact BROOD today, and let’s spend the cold winter snuggling together! My adoption fee is $300.00.**Only BROOD-approved adopters can meet a dog (no exceptions). Story
Hi there, I’m Warren! I’m a 5 to 7-year-old Basset mix with a laid-back personality. My ears might not be as long as some, but they’re perfect for me!Let’s get the important stuff out of the way—I have a few medical conditions that require daily medications for life. The good news is that I’m doing much better since I was rescued. BROOD will even cover the cost of these medications and supplements to help me stay healthy.I’m fully house-trained, and can even use a doggie door. I love hanging out in the yard while my foster mom works. I do not like being crated and I prefer a home with fewer steps to climb.I’m a social guy who loves meeting new people and other dogs. Sometimes, I’m so excited about my new friends that I try to follow them home! I’d do well with a canine sibling or as an only dog—I’m flexible as long as I get plenty of love.Playtime is the best, especially with squeaky toys (check out my video!). Afterward, I’m more than happy to settle down in my comfy dog bed for a snooze. I’m mellow, easygoing, and would fit in beautifully with any family. I rarely bark and I’m always ready to show off my “sit” skills for a treat. If you’re looking for a sweet, low-maintenance companion who will adore you forever, I’m your guy! Contact BROOD today to meet me. My adoption fee is $250.00.**Only BROOD-approved adopters can meet a dog (no exceptions). Story
****WOULD LOVE A FOSTER HOME TO REST AND RECOVER AS HE GOES THROUGH HEARTWORM TREATMENT*** Carl is a handsome 8-year-old Blue Tick Beagle mix, weighing in at 32 lbs. This sweet boy may have had a rough start, but he's ready to find his forever home. As a stray, Carl was thin, dirty, and covered in fleas and ticks, but with love and care from our shelter staff, he's now thriving and ready to be someone's loyal companion. Carl is a lively senior boy that is still spunky and up for walks in the yard. Due to him going through Heartworm Treatment we need to keep his activity level calm and quiet so we would LOVE to get him settled into a Foster home and away from the chaos and stress that shelter live can bring! Carl has done well with the other dogs he has met. He spend most days sleeping and is a easygoing guy! Carl has been neutered and microchipped, he is updated all vaccines including rabies. He has been given a dewormer and started on flea/tick prevention, heartworm tested (POSITIVE).
