Story
Rowley is a true cuddle-bug. While he has a bit of a mischievous streak, none of that matters when he snuggles in next to you. Or on you. Your heart will become a glorious warm puddle in your chest. He is beautifully socialized and pretty much bomb proof. His mischief includes mostly trying to steal food from the table, knocking over trash cans and squirreling his toys (and others’ toys) in his crate. He’s tall enough to look on the counter, but not tall enough to get more than a sniff. (If there’s a chair nearby, though, he is not afraid of scaling heights to get to the plate of french fries you’ve foolishly left on the counter!) He doesn’t chew anything inappropriate and has been sleeping happily all night curled up next to his foster mom on her bed. He is a strong dog who needs someone who can keep hold of his leash on walks, since he pulls to explore all the smells. He gets along with other dogs, but might be happiest as an only dog, because then he’ll get all the attention. He will bark at noises outside, but is happy to meet new people. He’ll be a great addition to any family. My Profile Age: 3 years Weight: 35 pounds Good with kids: Yes, over 5 Good with dogs: Yes, but I like to keep my toys and food to myself Good with cats: Unknown Fenced yard: Yes Suitable for townhouse and/or apartment: Townhouse yes, apartment no House trained: Yes. Crate trained: I'm OK for short periods, but I prefer to be out Barks when left alone: I do bark when left alone. I get lonely! Chews inappropriate items: No Training: Not a lot, but he's smart and food motivated Activity level: I’m pretty laid-back. Meet Me If you are interested in Rowley, consider letting us know by filling out a (no-obligation) adoption application at pgspca.org/adopt. Please consult our Adoption FAQ before contacting us. Please check the adoption-show-attendees page to see if Rowley will be attending the next adoption show. NOTE: We are an all volunteer group and do not operate a shelter. All of our animals are in foster homes. We are unable to place our animals outside of the Baltimore/DC area.

Approximate Age: 5 years old Approximate Weight: 86 lbs Meet Daisy Mae! - Huge love bug. - She loves to chase squirrels up a tree or out of the yard. - Uses her hound nose to smell food or wildlife - she will not take food off a table or counter. - She loves to sleep on an XL dog bed. - Plays with toys and bones. - Good with other dogs. - Will go in a crate. - Likes walks and car rides - needs a boost to get in the car. - A true hound arooo and loves using her sniffer - Loves her people and may get anxious when they leave the house - Will whine to go outside, whether for potty or to check if there are squirrels in the yard - Will let you clean her paws when they are muddy - Currently on seafood protein dog food. - Takes Zyrtec for allergy symptoms - Ehrlichia positive. Treatment is typically 28 days of doxycycline (an inexpensive antibiotic). With this disease, a dog may always test positive even if treated. The adopter is responsible for treatment, including cost. It's always a good idea to plan to keep your dog on a joint supplement for life. *********************************************************************** Visit our website for an application to adopt. https://www.olddominionhumanesociety.org/adoption-survey What breed am I? More "sought out breeds may have a higher adoption donation) Adoption donations are to be made via cash, or credit/debit card. There is a $5 fee to run cards. We do not accept checks for adoption fees. Please remember to bring a martingale collar and leash (non-retractable) with you the day of the adoption. Story
Stumpy-Bassett Hound/Labrador Retriever (Bassador) male, ~ 1-2 yr. (March 2024) Contact rescuebc@hotmail.com for application to adopt. Stumpy is living in a very rural area with a family that asked for help in finding him a new home. He's used to living a family life with children and loves the children. He would be best as an only dog. He's a mixed dog but a popular mix, called a Bassador. The Bassador temperament can vary a lot depending on whether they take after their Lab or Basset Hound parent more. Generally, they are sociable and loving. We are fortunate to know how Stumpy has done, living with a family. Bassadors love attention, especially from their favorite person. If you want a dog with a very unique look who’s loyal to a fault, the Bassador could be the dog for you! Stumpy's adoption fee is $350 to help cover the medical costs of getting ready for adoption. For our application, please email rescuebc@hotmail.com Include your location and a phone number for future communication.

Foster Homes Needed! Do you have time and room in your life for a foster dog? http://www.muttloverescue.org/foster.html *****************   Luke came to us as a very overweight guy with seizures. He is in a wonderful foster home who helped him drop the extra weight and we're working on keeping his seizures under control. Luke gets along with everyone, including his 4-legged foster sister. His puppy dog eyes will melt your sole. He is a calm and gentle guy about 8ish yrs old.  He has the characteristic sniffing traits of his breed and is curious to investigate life around him when outdoors.  Luke has a sweet, quiet disposition.  He continues to be an easy going and good natured gentleman and is very nicely behaved in a home environment. Luke still has seizures from time to time so he needs an adopter who can handle his special needs.  **BECAUSE OF OUR REQUIREMENT FOR A HOME VISIT, WE ARE ONLY ABLE TO ADOPT TO HOMES IN THE NORTHERN VA / MARYLAND / DC METRO AREA** We have adoption events EVERY SATURDAY from 12-3 p.m. Please note that not all dogs can attend every event, so if you are interested in meeting a particular dog, please complete a no-obligation application on our website at http://www.muttloverescue.org/application.html OR write to adopt@muttloverescue.org.
