Story
Every once in awhile, a dog comes to us and they tug at our heartstrings more than usual. Whether it's their background, their condition or their fortitude. Such is the case with Dude - it's his fortitude that we all admire.Dude does not have normal front feet, which also makes his front legs a bit distorted and shorter than his back legs. Likely having this since birth, he has had to adjust his gait and movement. He will have xrays to see if they can make sense of what is going on.He is now on pain meds and joint supplements and we already see him feeling more relaxed. He also now has rugs in his run so that it's easier for him to walk around. When he sees you coming to sit next to him, he rolls on his back and puts his legs in the air! What appears awkward and perhaps painful to us, is just normal for Dude! He gets what he needs and seems to take pleasure in the small things. He adores when people take an extra minute to hang out with him. Dude loves belly rubs and sitting in the sun.Dude is just three-years-old and otherwise very healthy! He will never be one for long walks but he will always be one for snuggles and love! Dude and his friends are available to meet every day from 9am-12pm - come say Hey Dude!Animal Aid Society, 80 nButler Farm Road, Hampton, VA.Interested? Come for a visit any day of the week - 365 days a year between 9am - 12pm. Story
Meet Rocky He is a 10y old neutered male beagle who is looking for a very special new home. Rocky finds himself at BTTR through no fault of his own. This good boys previous owner left him with a friend while looking for a new place to live and was unable to reclaim him after 3 months. The owner and friend turned to BTTR for help finding a new home for Rocky. Rocky's wish list includes a home with a fenced in yard, and the opportunity to go on walks and play with other dogs a few times a week. He loves running zoomies around the yard, chasing another dog through the leaves, sniffing trees on a walk, and sleeping on a cozy bed. He is very cuddly and loves a good snuggle. He has done well in a home with other dogs, seems interested in cats but is respectful, and would be a good fit for kids and most older people.   After arriving at BTTR Rocky began limping and our vet determined that Rocky has 2 torn CCLs (like doggy ACLs). One was partially torn and partially healed prior to him arriving at BTTR and one tore with the increased activity at BTTR.  We had two orthopedic consultations and determined that Rocky will be needing double knee surgery scheduled on April 1st 2025 at our vet in Chesapeake, VA 23322 (paid for by BTTR). He is currently on exercise restrictions, pain medications, and will need to be carried up and down any stairs from now until 8 weeks following his surgery. Once recovered we are expecting him to be able to make a full recovery and be able to return to 100% beagle shenanigans. He is neutered, had a recent senior blood/urine panel, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, negative fecal test, on flea/tick/heartworm prevention. Other than the knee issues Rocky is an all around healthy guy. BTTR offers a trial period to all of our adoptions to make sure it’s the right fit! As a Senior Rocky qualifies for a Special Reduced Senior Adoption Fee. Can you help Rocky out?
