Story
Meet April, a charming adult Basset Hound mix with a heart as big as her personality. Despite her shy demeanor, she's quick to offer her affection to those she trusts. She's a gentle soul who loves nothing more than to snuggle up close for some cuddle time. April's mellow nature makes her the perfect companion for those quiet, peaceful moments at home. Her friendly and sweet disposition is a testament to her loving spirit. While she may be shy at first, her gentle heart quickly shines through. Her love and loyalty are as enduring as they come. Adopting April means gaining a friend who will shower you with unconditional love and loyalty. Her calm demeanor and loving nature make her the perfect addition to any home looking for a sweet, gentle companion. April is a 2 - 3 yr old female Basset Hound mix. She has a medium energy level, so she should fit in well with most homes provided she receives a moderate amount of daily exercise and play. She walks well on a leash with no pulling. April is food motivated, but does not yet know any commands. She mixes well with other dogs in a kennel, but is afraid of cats in the shelter environment. Dogs are generally tested with dogs of their own size; and dog meets with the resident dogs are always encouraged. Our cat test should be used as a general-purpose screening only to rule out overt aggression; we always recommend caution when introducing dogs to cats in the home. Recommendation on suitability of placement with children by their ages is based on behavioral observations including energy level and response to body handling. We never recommend leaving young children unsupervised with dogs, and we cannot guarantee the behavior of dogs with children, other pets, or cats. Behavior evaluations should be considered as a snapshot of the behavior of the dog at this point in time; JHS believes all dog families need to be prepared to invest time and energy into training as well as provide common sense management of their new dog. We always encourage family to do some research on the breeds or mixes of breeds prior to adoption as many can have some unique characteristics that may or may not fit into their families. Always remember that the majority of dogs at our shelter have been exposed to or may have kennel cough. Kennel cough is contagious to other dogs, please talk to your vet if you have any questions about kennel cough prior to adoption. Please ask your adoption counselor at time of adoption if you have any unanswered questions regarding illnesses and treatments of the pet that you are adopting. I am affectionate, scared, laid back and househbroken. I can sit, stay and lay down. I like men, women, children, dogs, rope toys, squeaky toys, stuffed animals, soft and hard treats. I do not like cats or car rides. My favorite things are quiet cuddles and long walks. Other notes form foster: She loves some good outside time, for her absolute favorite place to be is inside at her humans' feet. She is the absolute SWEETEST, and the best dog either of us have had in our adult lives because of just how fast she learns, how eager she is to please, how sweet she is, her awesome snuggles, and how happy she is to see her humans every single time.
