Story
This precious girl is Alani, and she is a sweet puppy looking for her furever home. She's a smart girl that loves her people and other dogs. She will need continued training to be the best girl, but has taken quickly to potty and crate training. Alani is a labrador-basset mix, so we expect her to be somewhat large with even larger ears! Alani is dewormed, microchipped, and has age-appropriate vaccines. Her adoption will include a contract requiring her spay at an appropriate age.

Story
PLEASE READ TO UNDERSTAND HOWIE’S SPECIAL NEEDS (behavioral) While visiting a high kill county shelter so full, dogs were in overflow crates, we spotted Howie and knew we had to come back if we found a foster. Thankfully when someone saw his precious face and short little legs, they offered to foster and Howie officially joined TFDH in June-25! We would have never have guessed the roller coaster we’d be on since. Howie is estimated to be around 1 year old and is currently around 40bs. For fun, we did a DNA test that confirmed he’s 55% Basset Hound and 14% Dachshund. That mix explains his short stocky build and possibly his attitude. Long story short - we don’t know why Howie is such an anxious guy. Maybe its past trauma or under socialization or maybe he was just born that way. Unfortunately, that has manifested with not only GI issues but occasional fear based aggression. We’ve consulted a handful of vets to rule out any medical causes and have sought guidance from professional dog trainers with extensive experience. He’s had a consistent foster home for the last 6 months that have poured their heart and soul in to trying to figure out how best to help Howie. Thanks to that effort (& daily anxiety medicine) there has been progress. Every day his triggers are better understood and while we wish his behavior challenges were as simple as guarding his food, there are moments that have reinforced our commitment that we’re giving him our best. Howie is happiest in a quiet, predictable environment. He is very food motivated so has picked up “sit” & “wait” amongst other basic commands. He walks great on a leash but with short legs he doesn’t need to go far. He absolutely loves his crate and it’s honestly where he’s most relaxed. Howie loves playing with toys and in particular chewing on bones. On the rare occasion he pauses, you can find him on his dog bed or getting pets on the couch if only for a few fleeting minutes. Howie can be rather vocal but thankfully that expression allows us to understand when he’s unhappy or overstimulated. To be honest, we don’t know the next steps for Howie. We know it’ll take an above average dog savvy person that doesn’t easily scare to have an interest in working with a dog like Howie (seeking a dog professional or experience with fear based aggression). His “special needs” aren’t always visible but they deserve & require just as much patience & advocacy for a happy & long life. If you feel that could be you, please reach out. We’d be happy to share more. Howie is up to date on core vaccinations, kept on flea/tick/heartworm prevention, and has been neutered and microchipped. His adoption fee is $350. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Lucy – A Gentle 9Year-Old Basset Hound–Terrier Mix  Lucy is a shy, timid, and incredibly sweet 9-year-old Basset Hound–Terrier mix who arrived at Rainbow Bridge Hospice Rescue after her owner entered hospice care. She and her brother, Ricky, spent their entire lives together, but sadly, not in a safe or loving environment. The family openly admitted that both dogs were hit throughout their lives as a form of discipline—and that no one ever stepped in to stop the abuse. They were surrendered when their owner entered hospice.  To make matters worse, not a single family member, including the owner’s husband, was willing to take them in. When they were surrendered, the family assured us the dogs were up to date on their shots, but we quickly discovered they had not seen a veterinarian in more than three years. Both arrived with severe dental disease, and Lucy was additionally diagnosed with a heart murmur. Now safe at Rainbow Bridge, Lucy is slowly learning that gentle hands and kind voices exist, and that she finally deserves the comfort and compassion she was always denied. &#226&#157&#164&#239&#184&#143  Ricky has been adopted byt sadly, Lucy still waits for her furever home. Lucy is the quieter, she is timid and flinches when you raise your hand to pet her. She’s gentle, calm, and enjoys spending her days lounging in soft blankets or quietly following her foster mom around the house. Life has recently changed a lot for her, and she’s still learning to trust and feel secure again. With patience, kindness, and love, Lucy’s sweet personality continues to blossom a little more every day.  She is potty trained but does occasionally have accidents.   Adoption Fee  $300 tps://rainbowbridgerescue.org/adopt/  Application must be completed Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.March 15, 2026, 10:15 am

Story
(DOB 11/01/2018) Charlie, the bundle of fun and energy that’s ready to bring joy to any home! This playful guy is all about having a good time whether it’s running through the sprinkler on a hot summer day or chasing leaves in the back yard in the fall!  Charlie’s also super smart and knows a lot of commands, making him an eager learner. His cuddles are top-notch, and he’s a master of giving sweet, gentle kisses and deep, loving stares right into your eyes. He’d thrive in a home with a yard, or with an active family who’ll keep him moving if they live in an apartment. He’d make an excellent addition to a family with one or two other dogs, though he’d be just as happy being your one-and-only best buddy. We think he'd do great with kids, too! Charlie is playful, loving, and just plain fun—if you’re looking for a happy, energetic companion, he’s your guy! Charlie has a big personality in a compact size (~40lbs), especially when it comes to his interest in those other furries called cats! If he spots a cat, he’s very interested in giving chase, so be aware when you are out and about. He is also still mastering walking on a leash and still pulls but  working on it. Charlie sleeps in his kennel, and he has a nice cushy bed which he doesn't chew. If you have a fence yard and you let Charlie out to romp, run around, play and goof off, know he loves to dig. Keep him busy otherwise he could get into some mishchief. After a long and lovely romp, he likes to chill out in a big, comfy bed on his cot. Are you looking for a guy just like Charlie? Then get your application submitted! As part of Charlie’s $300 adoption fee, he is neutered, microchipped, up to date on age-appropriate vaccines, and current on his monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. If you have questions about this sweet little boy, you can email  Dogteam@pawsforlifenc.org.  If you wish to adopt Charlie, you can fill in an online application for him under the Adopt a Pet Tab on our website:  www.pawsforlifenc.org. ##2239684##
