Story
Stumpy-Bassett Hound/Labrador Retriever (Bassador) male, ~ 1-2 yr. (March 2024) Contact rescuebc@hotmail.com for application to adopt. Stumpy is living in a very rural area with a family that asked for help in finding him a new home. He's used to living a family life with children and loves the children. He would be best as an only dog. He's a mixed dog but a popular mix, called a Bassador. The Bassador temperament can vary a lot depending on whether they take after their Lab or Basset Hound parent more. Generally, they are sociable and loving. We are fortunate to know how Stumpy has done, living with a family. Bassadors love attention, especially from their favorite person. If you want a dog with a very unique look who’s loyal to a fault, the Bassador could be the dog for you! Stumpy's adoption fee is $350 to help cover the medical costs of getting ready for adoption. For our application, please email rescuebc@hotmail.com Include your location and a phone number for future communication.

Story
Rowley is a true cuddle-bug. While he has a bit of a mischievous streak, none of that matters when he snuggles in next to you. Or on you. Your heart will become a glorious warm puddle in your chest. He is beautifully socialized and pretty much bomb proof. His mischief includes mostly trying to steal food from the table, knocking over trash cans and squirreling his toys (and others’ toys) in his crate. He’s tall enough to look on the counter, but not tall enough to get more than a sniff. (If there’s a chair nearby, though, he is not afraid of scaling heights to get to the plate of french fries you’ve foolishly left on the counter!) He doesn’t chew anything inappropriate and has been sleeping happily all night curled up next to his foster mom on her bed. He is a strong dog who needs someone who can keep hold of his leash on walks, since he pulls to explore all the smells. He gets along with other dogs, but might be happiest as an only dog, because then he’ll get all the attention. He will bark at noises outside, but is happy to meet new people. He’ll be a great addition to any family. My Profile Age: 3 years Weight: 35 pounds Good with kids: Yes, over 5 Good with dogs: Yes, but I like to keep my toys and food to myself Good with cats: Unknown Fenced yard: Yes Suitable for townhouse and/or apartment: Townhouse yes, apartment no House trained: Yes. Crate trained: I'm OK for short periods, but I prefer to be out Barks when left alone: I do bark when left alone. I get lonely! Chews inappropriate items: No Training: Not a lot, but he's smart and food motivated Activity level: I’m pretty laid-back. Meet Me If you are interested in Rowley, consider letting us know by filling out a (no-obligation) adoption application at pgspca.org/adopt. Please consult our Adoption FAQ before contacting us. Please check the adoption-show-attendees page to see if Rowley will be attending the next adoption show. NOTE: We are an all volunteer group and do not operate a shelter. All of our animals are in foster homes. We are unable to place our animals outside of the Baltimore/DC area.

Story
Olivia was adopted from the shelter in February 2022. She turned 2 in December, 2024. At the shelter, she was listed as a Beagle mix and may be a beagle and jack Russell terrier cross. Olivia needs an experienced owner and preferably an owner familiar with Jack Russell/terrier dogs. Olivia needs an owner that can be calm and consistent in her training and in her aggression related to resource guarding behavior. Olivia has had bite incidents, but there have been no bites since November 2023. Olivia is a sweet dog who loves snuggling and attention. She is smart and learns quickly. She rides great in the car. She is calm and content at home during the work day confined to the bedroom with a baby gate up and has never been destructive when left alone. Olivia would thrive with an active owner and adults only household. She is hit or miss with other dogs, but has played well in the past with large dogs and seems to get along well with small male dogs.
