Story
If you like your dogs small in size, big on love, and perfect in personality- Meet Emi She is absolute perfection- polite, friendly, affectionate, playful, dog friendly, a gentleman with cats, a lover of toys, and the master at finding the coziest napping spots. To truly understand the description you have to watch her video. Her size is much easier to grasp that way. We suspect she is a Shiba Inu/Carrolina mix but given she is a rescue we cannot say with 100% certainty her breed or age. Estimated to be somewhere in the 4-6 month range, she weighs 17 lbs. If you adopt her and opt for a DNA test, please share the results. We love updates and DNA results on the head-scratchers are a favorite! Take a look and see what we mean- https://youtu.be/bbUgqetUgVc Emi is a loving, playful, affectionate sweetheart who is ready to scooch in close, and maybe sneak a gentle kiss within a few moment of meeting you. Not in a pushy way though, her approach is gentle and so friendly. We were all impressed by how balanced her energy is, especially given her estimated age. Her overall approach to everything she has experienced is friendly, warm and polite, with a perfect touch of curious joy. Every now and then a tiny bit of “shy” will sneak in, mostly when meeting dogs that are larger and forward. Her best-friend in her foster home is a dog that is bigger than her, she is comfortable with the size but prefers taking a moment to get to know a new dog. She loves a playful companion and the best buddy for her would be playful without being pushy or overly energetic. We would describe her as moderately energetic—up for a play session or a nice walk, but just as happy snuggling on the couch with a toy. Her playful yet balanced energy makes her a great companion for someone looking for a dog who enjoys both fun and social-time just as much as downtime. Emi is so fortunate to be learning and growing in a wonderful foster home. Her foster has shared that she is just a joy to have around and has been an easy addition to their home. From tagging along on coffee dates to relaxing in the back yard, Emi is just easy company. She shared that she is fully house trained as well! Yay to that! Emi is very treat motivated and has taken to learning new skills and a few tricks easily. If you have a treat in your hand, you have her full attention. She has fully mastered sit and has a great default sit when bringing you a toy to play or waiting for her food to be served. She did show off a little dance though we don’t know if it is a “trick” or just a cute little thing she does. From everything we know so far, she would enjoy having another dog in the home to play with. If an only-dog, she will benefit from regular walks, enrichment, on-going socializing and occasional days at a doggie day-care for her dog-friendly playful side to be satisfied. If you have a cat, don’t worry there, she lives with three cats in her foster home and was introduced to our house cat and she was perfectly cautious, respectful and calm. We consider her cat-tolerant and she will respond well to learning from her people and the cat what the boundaries are once she is home. With her easy-going nature and love for people, she is sure to be an adored and cherished companion for any family or individual looking for petite perfection! Our on-site trainers support the positive growth of our dogs and we enjoy seeing their progress!  Our commitment to comprehensive medical care sets us apart. We've received glowing feedback from veterinarians who commend our dedication to ensuring the health and well-being of every animal in our care with treatments that often go above and beyond. Our adoption fees reflect the extensive care and resources that go into each animal we save. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet.  The rescue’s hard costs alone (excluding transport) for a healthy dog to go through our program typically range between $412 to $859, which includes boarding, food, medications, vaccines, and spay/neuter. For heartworm-positive dogs, hard costs are upwards of $1,368. Additionally, dogs requiring extended boarding, extra training, or extra medical care—such as dental work, vision care, or orthopedic care—can lead to expenses running into the thousands. Also, included in the adoption fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. Transport is a significant additional expense to the rescue.  While adoption fees help cover part of these expenses, we want to emphasize that the rescue does not receive government funding and must fundraise to offset the remaining expense balance which ranges $100-1,000++ per animal on these direct costs. It doesn’t stop there! Did you know that the Greater Houston area faces some of the highest stray and overpopulation rates in the nation? We are a non profit charity. Our goal is simple— to reduce the homeless pet population through community outreach, free spay and neuter services, and by rescuing animals from the streets or overcrowded shelters where euthanasia due to lack of space is often the only option.
