Story
Hi! My name is NONYA, and here is a bit about me:Breed: Basenji/Canaan Dog mixAge: 1-1/2 yearsGender: FemaleWeight: 11 kgHeight: 40 cmHighlight(s): Friendly, Sweet, Eager to please, Loving You’d never know by my sweet and loving demeanor that I was abandoned at a clinic as a 1 week old puppy and lived the first 5 months of my life in a cage there.Even though those first months are very important for a puppy’s socialization, somehow this confinement didn’t prevent me from being a sweet, cheerful girl. When my rescuer heard about my living conditions, she immediately took me away to live in her house with her. My rescuer was concerned at my small size and slow growth, worrying that perhaps I had a chromosome issue. Then the vet told us that I was absolutely riddled with worms, and they were stealing all of my nutrition. Rude! I feel so much better now that we’ve evicted those things. Now I’m focused on making up for that early lack of socialization by soaking up lots of play time with my foster family, including dogs: https://youtu.be/nPAAdPwDdN8, cats: https://youtu.be/i0iUjDYxlKU, and every human I meet!: https://youtu.be/6wZsDgStGXI, https://youtu.be/EJxUqNOLJ0E.My rescuer named me Nonya, which means “little spoiled girl”, because she says I deserve to be treated like a princess for all of my days. I wish I could tell her that I don’t need anything else, as long as I have a loving family who will make sure I never live in a cage again. I try to show her how much I appreciate everything she’s done for me by immediately doing anything she asks with affection and enthusiasm! She’s made me feel so safe that I am happy to meet any new person (or pet!) who comes my way, and I never feel the need to bark in alarm. You can see from my pictures that I always have an adoring gaze and a big, happy smile on my face for everyone!I’ve got all of the joy, curiosity, and enthusiasm of any young dog my age, and my rescuer says I’m so eager to please that I’d learn tricks and commands with ease. She thinks I’d fit well into practically any family, and that I’d thrive with other furry siblings (though I’m happy to be an only child as well!) Even though I’m still technically a puppy, I’m not one of those super energetic, hyper pups. I have about a 3/5 energy level, and I’m not a vocal girl.I’d really love to find a family of my own who wants to take me on adventures and show me all of the wonderful things the world outside of a cage has to offer! Energy Level: ModerateI get along with:Dogs: yesCats: yesKids: unknown Fears: unknown/none observed. Please be patient assisting me in my transition.Training: potty training, so farLeash skills: no. Please be prepared to help me learn!House trained: yes. Please help me learn where to go in my new home. Health notes:I have been spayed/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. My adoption fee is $800.00 CAD plus applicable taxes. This includes my transportation to Canada, if I am able to be accompanied by a flight volunteer directly to Vancouver. Disclaimer: It is important for all applicants to visit our website, http://www.lovedatlastdogrescue.ca/adopting/ and read about Loved at Last Dog Rescue.Information included in the profile is provided to us from the international rescuer or local fosters. LALDR does not have access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of their descriptions. Every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person adopting them and the environment in which they live. Please Note: LALDR highly encourages adopters to research some local dog trainers before their dog arrives. Although a 1-on-1 trainer is often not needed, it is good to have someone in mind in case any problematic behaviours arise. Most bad behaviours can be modified if caught early enough, so make sure to nip undesirable behaviours in the bud before they become serious problems.Basic training should be taken seriously, but should not begin until your dog is well settled in - at least a couple of weeks. After you feel your new dog is relaxed and comfortable in their new home, check out training courses in your local area. Even basic beginner courses like those taught at a local pet store can have a huge benefit in helping your dog learn to socialize and get used to being in public situations, all with the added benefit of strengthening their bond with you. While most dogs find escorting passengers flying directly to Vancouver, some will find flights through Toronto or  Montreal. In that case, additional fees will apply to fly your dog to Vancouver by cargo. Unaccompanied cargo costs within Canada range from $350 - $550 depending on the size of the dog. LALDR will be as transparent as possible with you regarding these costs. The age and breed of a dog is usually an educated guess, so we are not able to guarantee the accuracy of age or breed of our dogs. Normally, we will not approve adoptions to homes with children under 12 years of age. However if a dog has been determined to be good with children we will approve applicants with children 8 years or older. More information can be found on our website. [MID-EAST] *Vaccinations: Dogs from the Middle East are vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper, leptospirosis, adenovirus type 1 and para-influenza. Bordetella is not given, as that has not been a problem in the Middle East. [TURKEY] *Dogs receive 4D SNAP tests - which include: Heartworm, Ehrlichiosis, Leishmania and Anaplasmosis. ##1898429##

Story
I will be coming to Canada soon. Hi, I'm Nalan (Nala) and here is a bit of info about me:Breed: Basenji/Africanis mixAge: 5 monthsGender: MaleWeight: 23 lbsHeight: 17 inchesCountry of origin: GhanaHighlights: Social, Playful, Goofy, Protective, Curious, Active, Affectionate, Dependent, Stubborn I am quite social and playful. I have a bit of curiosity about the world and actively engage it.While walking with a co-worker during her volunteer time in Ghana, my rescuer noticed a puppy on the sidewalk, me. I was tiny with a phone charging cord tangled tightly on my neck. She untangled me and waited for me to try walking, but they quickly realized, I could not move my legs.Once they finished their tasks, they came back again and saw I was still there. They had hoped my momma would show up, but she never did. So I was helpless and alone. Being the loving heart she is, she took me home and contacted a vet. The vet suspected I had been hit by a car. Probably while following my mom in search of food. I was treated over the next few days and began to recover. Soon, I was playing with another puppy in the compound and even befriended the neighbor’s kittens. You'll find I am the sweetest, most affectionate little soul, always snuggling up and full of love, especially toward kids who visit. Now, after six months, my rescuer's assignment is over and she needs to return to Canada. She plans to bring me along.Pet culture is quite different in Ghana—us dogs rely on finding food and water on the streets, even if we have a place to sleep at night. I have become so accustomed to regular meals, care, and endless snuggles, I wouldn’t know how to survive on my own in the streets. My rescuer loves me deeply and would adopt me in a heartbeat, but her work doesn’t allow for this ability. Hence, the search for a safe and loving forever home where I can continue to thrive.Hoping you enjoy activities I can join in on, as I have puppy energy to burn. While a bit stubborn at times, I think this is my puppyness learning how to interact, as I love being near you too. I have a silly/goofy streak that comes out, which should make you laugh. As far as other dogs, I love them and I have grown up with 2 kitten buddies too, so would love one as a sibling as well. I also have been around lots of kids in the community and enjoy them very much. So a home with 4 and/or 2 footed siblings would be my utopia. I had been skeptical of men I don't know getting close, however once I get used to them, I am okay. Now my skepticism is fading bit by bit.I can only hope that someone will open their heart and home to a loving boy like me. I bond quickly, so you will have a friend for life. Story
Lucia This beautiful redhead has the cutest ears! Lucia is 1 year old weighing 28 lbs. She is gregarious and friendly. Lucia and Sofia were left abandoned together near the SPCA PV sanctuary. We’d love to adopt them together, but we can’t hold them back from finding a home that loves them if that’s not possible. While at the shelter we can’t confirm if she’s house trained, but it seems she once had a home, so we think its likely that she is. Lucia is medium energy and lovely with people. She is good with dogs at the shelter, though barks if there is a barrier, which is not uncommon in shelter environments. Lucia was tested with cats, and at first was avoidant and then gently curious. She even let the cats hold her leash. Lucia is healthy, spayed and vaccinated. She is currently at the SPCA PV sanctuary in Mexico, and will be able to fly to Vancouver, Calgary or Edmonton (possibly also Vancouver island) in fall when flights resume. If you think you might be the lucky home for her, write us at pvcaadoptions@gmail.com and tell us a little about yourself, or go direct to our application: https://forms.office.com/r/b1Fkq3u4zw
