Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Please e mail starbrightdogs@mail.com for an application, the following is a fantastic write up from his foster mom!
When he first came, I have realized, he was not feeling well. I thought maybe he was a lot older than they had originally told me because of how lazy he was. Since he started the antibiotics, he has become a completely different dog! Definitely a puppy. :) (well, I'm guessing he's three or under.) He is gentle as can be, but he often forgets how big he is. He is wonderful with my kids. Always good with them. Very relaxed and he doesn't mind when they use him as a pillow, run into him (on accident!), or anything like that. Even though he's really good with kids, I would suggest he isn't placed with a family with REALLY little kids. (four or older would be fine) I say that only because he is SO big that when he gets excited and runs around, he often slides into people without meaning to. Or when you're loving on him, he will put all of his body weight against you so you can pet him more. He's smooshed my 2 year old more than once--without meaning to.
We have been working on being a better leash walking partner. He hates his "gentle leader" and can't seem to get used to it. It is a necessity for him because of his size, though. Without it, he pulls a lot, and he doesn't seem to be a fast learner. He is VERY smart--but VERY stubborn. If he thinks he's in trouble, he will lay down on the ground and cower and refuse to move. I think he must have been abused before. :( It's like he just braces for the worst. Either way, he's getting better on the leash, but still has a ways to go.
He is GREAT with other dogs. He adores our beagle, Lucy, and they have been buddies since he first arrived. We took him up to visit my parents in Indiana for Thanksgiving. (he doesn't like being in the car unless he can ride in the front seat.) My parents have two dogs. One is almost as big as he is and VERY dominant. He reacted beautifully to her. I was a little worried about how they would behave together, but everything was really good. He would let her do all the sniffing and dominance shows she wanted and not care. The only time he growled at her was when I was laying on the floor (exercising). He had been laying right next to me and she approached me. No biting or lunging. Just a little warning growl.
He is worrying me a little about cats. He has been really great with them until the last couple of days. I gave him a great big bone and he attacked one of our cats (who he has always ignored) when she was approaching him as he was chewing on it. The next day, he attacked our other cat for laying near his food bowl. It was very strange behavior for him. I'll let you know if it happens again. Other than those two instances, he has been really good with the cats. Our bigger cat liked him and would just ignore him--more or less. He would chase our smaller cat because she would always run away from him and he thought she was playing.
He is also chewing a LOT. This is a new behavior for him. I think it has to do with him feeling a little better every day, to be honest. I just think he didn't have the energy to be a puppy before. I have been giving him bones and chew toys every time he gets up, but he needs supervision (or to be crate trained, I think) pretty much all the time. He knows when I'm not watching. He will be good all day, and as soon as I'm in the shower or step out into the garage for five minutes, he attacks toys and shoes and clothes--anything he can get his mouth on. I think he still has some separation anxiety.
He is a sweet loving boy, though. He absolutely adores the people he is with. He likes almost everybody, but gets very attached to some people. (me and my mom so far) and he claims us as his. :) He loves to follow me around the house and lay at my feet. He is great at night. He sleeps in his bed and hardly moves until I get up. No accidents inside. He loves to snuggle, but he also likes to lay in his own bed.
