Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Name: CASSIE
Age: 1 Yr
Weight: 16 lbs
Good with dogs: Likes other dogs, but can be a little rough.
Good with cats: unknown
Good with children: Yes, but sometimes nips when playing. Older children would be best.
House trained: Yes
Crate trained: Yes
Adoption Fee: $250.00
Special Needs: Because she is blind, she sometimes runs into other dogs. She also will inadvertently nip other dogs or people when she is plalying.
Cassie is looking for a home where she will find a “seeing eye” person or perhaps a “seeing eye” dog to help her through her life of playing, eating, snuggling, and in general just loving life. Cassie came into the care of CCBTR, along with her sister Callie, when both girls were just 8 weeks old. Both suffered severe eye damage at birth. Both are blind. But, rest assured, this “little” problem does not slow this girl down. Cassie is a strong little girl and although she has now experienced the loss of both of her eyes, this doesn't stop her from "seeing" the world through her nose and ears. It seems that all this business before the age of 8 months would cause Cassie to be withdrawn and shy. She is NEITHER. Cassie loves to follow her foster brothers everywhere. They have become her “seeing eye” dogs. She loves to play with her foster brothers and other dogs, but sometimes she can be a bit rough. Cassie needs to be in a home where she will get the training that she needs to learn her place in her new family and get the love that she needs to grow into a very special family member. Canine companionship would be very helpful to get her acclimated to her home and surroundings, but the right person could also do this without the help of a dog. If you think you can provide this very special girl with the training and love that she needs, you will find yourself with a loving, devoted, and very sweet girl that will give you all that love right back.
"Hey there everybody! I'm Mexicali Ray, but you can call me Callie. I'm Cassie's sister, and I am blind too. I want to be honest with anyone considering adopting my sister---there are some things we just can't do.
We can't drive, do calligraphy, play badminton or bake a cake. We can't do your taxes, or grow our hair out, do your laundry, or answer your cellphone.
On the other hand, we can make friends of all sorts and take walks together. We can play chase and throttle our toys. We can sleep in our crates, potty outside, and learn every inch of our homes and yards so we can run around like crazy women. We can be pushy and a little naughty sometimes, and give you puppy kisses and snuggle on the couch with you.
My mommy says she wouldn't trade me for cash money----I don't know what that means, but if it's anything like a big box of biscuits, I don't think I'm going anywhere any time soon.
Love ya!!!! Callie"
PS: (A word from Callie's mom) I want to encourage potential adopters to get excited about the opportunity to adopt young Cassie. Caring for a blind dog is much the same as for any sighted dog----obedience work, continued socialization, proper exercise, healthy food and lots of love. Safety is important in new situations, like meeting new doggie friends and when in unfamiliar environments, like visiting a friend's home. Routine and consistency make learning easier for any dog, especially a blind dog. (Our girl Callie knows every inch of our home, front and back doors, where her crate is, where the water bowl is, where the mean cat and grumpy dog sleep, even where we keep the potbelly pig food!)
Cassie is a healthy, happy, typical Boston Terrier pup in all the ways that really matter. With fair winds and following seas, Cassie will be a loving and loyal companion for many, many years to come.
