It was late summer 2013, when a fluffy kitty was spotted hiding in a storm drain. The kitty rarely came out and seemed lost and alone. How did it get there? Did it have a family that moved and left it behind? Did it get separated and couldn’t find it’s way home? The questions will never be answered. Over the weeks that followed, the kitty was often seen in her safe spot, and was only out while scavenging for food. A cat-friendly family lived close and spent many days coaxing the beautiful cat to come out to eat. Finally, she gave in and tentatively stepped once again toward humans and what they might offer her. She began coming out regularly for food and allowed these kind folks to pet, and eventually hold her.
Summer turned into fall, and the weather started to get cold. The fluffy girl was obviously not used to fending for herself. She was friendly and as the days got shorter, she was more drawn to these people—running to greet them when they came home from work. She allowed them to pick her up and snuggle, and seemed to enjoy the company of humans. She hung out in this family’s garage for a while to see how she really was with people and observe her behavior. Turns out, she was a real doll. Plans were made to get fluffy kitty into a forever home.
She became Maggie and won the hearts of those who met her. Maggie LOVED to cuddle, curling up or stretching out on someone’s lap, she was content sleeping there for hours. Her litter box habits were perfect. She was deemed a great candidate to be someone’s forever companion.
Maggie was moved into foster care, where she continues to blossom. She’s about 4 years old and still enjoys playing, especially with the wand-type toys. She uses her scratching post and has not been seen scratching inappropriately. Maggie’s favorite activity, above all else, is to be the ultimate lap cat! When she wants extra attention, she will head butt her person’s chin, or gently sit and wait for a kiss on her ear. She is truly looking for a home where her family will spend some quality couch time with her so she can snuggle and keep up her purring skills.
Like any true feline, Maggie expresses her independence at times, too. She has a fierce hiss that says “I’ve had enough” or that scares me, and will love nip at your knuckles if she thinks you should be petting her and are not! Because this is sometimes unpredictable, she would do best in a home without small children. Her coat is medium-long and she will need brushed occasionally.
Maggie may have had some traumatic experiences with other animals during her time outside as she is frightful with both cats and dogs. She is looking for a forever home where she will be an only pet, where her quirky behavior will be understood and where she can freely display all of her diva qualities! This little girl was obviously part of a wonderful family once, and she is now dreaming of being part of another family – one with whom she’ll spend the rest of her days.
