My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Stevie Rae was rescued from a High Desert shelter, where she had ended up as a "stray".
Stevie is a true lady and gets along well with everyone...She is an expert at navigating her surroundings and likes nothing more to chill out and relax in the sunshine. Stevie gets two insulin injections a day and other than that she is pretty easy going maintenance-wise. She loves everyone.

We believe the best home for Stevie is one with a solid routine, a work-from-home Professional or couple, semi-retired or retied couple who want a laid back, chillax'd girl to just "hang". Even though she is mellow, this girl likes her daily walks (3 miles a day), car rides (especially if going to the seaside) and being in social gatherings where she can get a nice ear scratch!

Did we mention she is so blind (a side affect from the diabetes)? This is not a disability for her at all but we feel she is best in an adult home, or one with teenagers on the quiet side and not a party house.

Her history was most likely as a backyard breeding dog and when she was no longer able to produce due to her terrible physical condition she was discarded. She was found wandering in the streets and picked up by Animal Control. The shelter felt it was best she was exited to a rescue and approached us. We have seen some awful things but even we were shocked at how thin she was after she had been transported to our Vet's. Being a Golden Retriever she should have been at least 50-lbs, yet she weighed in at a mere 21-lbs. We immediately had our Vet start testing to find out what was going on with her, and she was quickly diagnosed as diabetic. She was hospitalized on IV fluids and supportive care while working out her insulin needs. During that time she gained a whole 1-lb in weight! Stevie has now a new chapter to her life where she is loved for who she is not what she can produce. She can relax and enjoy good food and play with her foster fur-brother. Stevie's blood work came back stellar, no kidney or liver issues at all, just diabetic......

Will you be the one to give this girl a furever home? Our adoption process is outlined here: http://ocpoundhounds.com/how-to-adopt/
