Mazie is a sweet, affectionate, and playful Beagle-Boxer-Labrador Retriever mix puppy brought into the rescue from a neglect situation. We know that her mom is a Beagle mix and her dad is a Lab/Boxer. Mazie is currently 5 months of age and weighs about 25 lbs. We expect her to double in her weight at the very least. It is hard to tell for sure, but a 45 to 50 lb. dog seems about right. Mazie has a beautiful soft tan and white coat, an adorable face, expressive eyes, and a long tail that almost never stops wagging. She gets along well with all other dogs, enjoying games of chase, tug-of-war, and wrestling, however, she has tried to play with some of the small dogs by batting at them with her paws Boxer style, much to the little dogs’ chagrin! Her current foster home has two other dogs her size or larger, as well as three cats, (and she has learned to play gently with the cats too). In new surroundings, Mazie generally prefers to stay close to her people, but then, ventures out. In short, Mazie is a lovable goofball who seems to bear goodwill and joy to every creature she meets. On walks, she will sometimes bark at passers-by (this seems to be a Beagle trait) but when introduced to new people she is quick to wag her tail and lick an offered hand.
Mazie loves to play, but also loves to nap, preferably curled up on the couch next to her humans. She bonds with people quickly, but has habit of carrying her people’s shoes and clothes about the house, lining her dog bed with these items. As yet, she has shown no destructive tendencies, though of course caution is warranted with puppies, as they are often still learning what is OK to chew on and what is not. A crate will be required/warranted to have on hand for her adoption, minimum 36 inches long.
Mazie is house-trained (though potty reinforcement is needed in any new environment), and she sleeps in her crate throughout the night, or is crated as needed throughout the day, without issue. She walks well on a leash with her harness, never pulling, but would benefit from additional leash training to help correct her tendency to get tangled up in her humans’ feet. She rides well in the car with a car harness or in her crate. She is extremely affectionate, loving to follow her people around the house and give them kisses. Like many puppies, she will cry when left in her crate and she cannot see you, or when her people are out of sight, but this is something she will likely grow out of and it is very important not to coddle or cater to this whining, or let her follow you everywhere, as it will only reinforce the behavior and may even foster separation anxiety. The good news is that she seems eager to please, so she listens well to gentle correction. Mazie enjoys a quiet evening curled up with her people in front of the T.V., just as well as a high-energy play session, and would likely do well in a variety of environments, including households with children, cats, and other dogs, but we especially feel that her best fit is in a home with another dog to be her friend and companion, as well as having a conventional yard.
Mazie is spayed, de-wormed, vaccinated including rabies, and micro-chipped. If you are interested in Mazie, please contact Angel’s Heart Dog Rescue at: adopt@angelsheartdogrescue.com.
