My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Get a load of this mug, eh? It’s me, 6 yr. old Riley, a neutered male purebred German Shepherd, out peddlin’ myself for a new home. In my youth, I had the misfortune of being acquired over and over by people who weren’t prepared to properly raise a big boy like me. They thought I’d raise myself, I guess. No training. Every time I’d start settling in, each family decided I was “too much dog”.

So what’s a bright fellow like me supposed to do in such a case? I truly want to do the right thing, but with no guidance, I’ve had to develop my own rules. Some people might call me rude and they walk away. Others wish they could adopt me, but alas, they have cats or small animals or little kids….those are all things I don’t handle well.

At my last home, I thought things were going to be forever. But then Dad got hired by a company that sends him all over the country for weeks at a time. Once he started that job, I hardly ever saw him. I had to spend all my time alone, with daily visits from Grandma and Grandpa. When I knocked Grandma down because I was so happy to see her, even she stopped coming.

And it became just Grandpa and me for a few hours each day. The rest of the time, I lay on the floor, waiting for someone, anyone to talk with me, play with me or take me for a ride.

Vaccinated, microchipped, housebroken, not a bit destructive in the home. I’m ready to assume a new position in a home with adults who appreciate a big guardian. Someone who has experience with Shepherds, someone who will be firm and consistent, but who will give me a place to stretch my legs and get a little exercise, too.

I like men and ladies, and older kids are fine. Great with other big dogs, too. But toddlers or little critters? Let’s just not go there, ok? I’ll walk nice on the leash with you, ride in the car to wherever you wanna go, play fetch with you in the yard and sleep at your feet in the evening. What’s not to love here, I ask you?

A man without a job is a lost soul. And I’m wandering right now, lost until I’m claimed by the person who’s truly meant for me. Are you that person? Could I work for you? 518-727-8591
