Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Logan's original owner/breeder brought him into a vet clinic in Knoxville TN, because he had been vomiting and had diarrhea. After it was determined that he did not have an obstruction that would require immediate surgery and his symptoms could be treated with medications, the vet noticed he also had some swelling and lameness in his front legs. After X-rays and a consult with a local specialist, it was determined that Logan has elbow dysplasia in both of his elbow and would need surgery. His owner/breeder who was willing to pay for testing on their female German Shepherd to see if she was ready for breeding would not pay for Logan's needed elbow surgery and asked the vet to euthanize him.
The vet looked down at the happy, friendly, 13 month old German Shepherd laying at her feet and said NO. Instead, she asked the owner/breeder to surrender Logan to the vet clinic and she would find another option for Logan. After the owner/breeder agreed to surrender Logan and signed him over to the vet, she contacted the German Shepherd Rescue of East TN for help.
The German Shepherd Rescue of East TN did not have any foster space available or the funds to pay for his needed surgery, but we could not stand by and do nothing. Logan is now in a foster home and we are trying to raise the funds needed to pay for his surgery and care. We are fortunate enough to have one of the best orthopedic canine surgeons here in Knoxville TN, Dr. Mitch Rosenzweig, and he has reviewed Logan's X-rays and has offered to repair both of Logan's elbows for the price of one. This is a very generous offer that we are grateful for, but the $2,500 needed for Logan's surgery is more than half of our operating budget for the entire year. Please help the German Shepherd Rescue of East TN, help Logan by making a donation through our paypal account under gsdrescueofeasttn@gmail.com.
Good News!!! We reached our goal for Logan's Surgery Fund and he had his surgery on 4/3/14. Logan's surgery did improve his condition, but it was not a complete fix. He will most likely have joint issues later in life and will need supplements, preventative care and pain management. He also should not be allowed to jump off beds, couches, out of vehicles or run down stairs due to the impact this puts on his elbows. Because of this, we are looking for a one level home for Logan (bonus points if you have a pool for water therapy).
He is a big goofy boy who loves everyone he meets. We were told initially that he may not be dog friendly, but we have found that he loves to play with other dogs around his size, but may not be great with little dogs. Because he is all play, sometimes he comes on too strong when he meets new dogs. He will need a new family that will continue to socialize him with new places and dogs.
If you are interested in Logan or any of our other foster dogs, please email us at gsdrescueofeasttn@gmail.com for an application. Logan's adoption fee is $250.
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccines, on heartworm and flea preventative and have been microchipped. We require all of our dogs to be kept as inside pets and we only adopt out within a 2 hour radius of Knoxville, TN..
