Here's what the humans have to say about me:
UPDATE: HEIDI HAS HAD HER SURGERY AND IS DOING WELL! SHE IS GOOD WITH OTHER DOGS, CATS AND CHILDREN!!! PLEASE GIVE HER A CHANCE, WE DID AND WE ARE SOOO HAPPY FOR IT!Heidi has had a hard life. After being a one dog puppy mill, she has been dumped at the shelter. She has a large growth - a tumor that will be removed this week. We don't have funding to fix every dog, I really wish I did. So, hard choices need to be made based on the ultimate adoptability of the pet. When I evaluated Heidi, I saw a dog with blood shot eyes and a huge growth. So, we gave her some pain meds and let her relax. What we found is that she is not food aggressive, has no problem sharing her toys and doesn't go out of her way to charge or menace other dogs. All huge pluses in the world I live and believe in. You see, my criteria is and has always been: Will the dog leave a position of safety to menace, attack or intimidate another animal. I am willing to allow a protective dog defending his/her home or owner. I am not willing to accept a dog that feels no security violation that leaves a safe place - to cause harm to another human or animal for no reason. Heidi shows none of that "gameness" and has a very low "prey instinct." She is easily corrected when she pulls on a leash and comes when called. She even sits on command despite the fact it has to be uncomfortable for her to do so. The lump on her rump makes it hard for her to move her bowels or urinate - but she will NOT go in her kennel. So, she gets her surgery. Now she just needs a home. I'll worry about where to get the money another day. Heidi is located at the Trumbull Animal Shelter, 325 Church HIll Road, Trumbull (203) 452-5088 or if no answer, call Barb at (203) 378-7454. The kennel is open Monday through Saturday from 10-3:30 and Sunday from 10-1. We ar also open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings from 7-9.
