My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! My name is Rio and I’m a female Husky/Shep mix, about 65 pounds, and am 2-3 years old. I found myself in a high intake/high kill shelter in Eastern rural KY. Set to be euthanized since I hadn’t been adopted and the shelter was crowded, I got lucky because The Way Home Rescue Alliance decided to take a chance on me and help me find a forever home!

I became one of the rescue’s favorite girls very quickly. I am en extremely affectionate girl, and I crave humane attention and thrive on it. I have a happy go lucky type of personality and I don’t know a stranger! I am outgoing, playful, and fun-loving with a medium energy level. I do well with children, men and women, but it would be my preference to be the only dog in the home.

I have proven to be very intelligent too! It didn’t take long before I mastered the commands ‘sit’, ‘heel’ and ‘down’. I am the type of girl that aims to please….it makes me happy to make you happy, and I respond wonderfully to positive reinforcement! Because I am so smart, I enjoy a wide array of activities - not only do I enjoy walks and play time in the yard for exercise, but I also enjoy being challenged mentally. Whether that be a game of fetch, learning a trick or command, or going to a new place, I am content as long as I’m with you!

I am currently in foster care in Lexington, KY. I am crate trained, housebroken (I paw at the door when I need to go potty) and I walk wonderfully on leash.

I am fully vaccinated, defleaed, dewormed, spayed and microchipped, and am current on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. TWHRA is open to out of state adoptions if they feel the applicant is a good fit for me, and they can provide some transport assistance. TWHRA is also open to 'foster to adopt' arrangements, allowing the applicant to foster me for a 2 week trial to determine if it's a good match before adoption is finalized. My adoption donation is $125, which will help defray the cost of my basic vetting. For more information on me, or for an adoption application, please email sarahthewayhome@gmail.com . Thank you for considering a rescue dog like me!
