Here's what the humans have to say about me:
About Zoey
Zoey is an 8 year old Papillion pup looking for a new home. Incredulously, she was handed over to us because a younger and larger dog was picking on her and the owner was afraid she would get hurt. I will never understand how someone can give up a loyal companion after 8 years while they keep the "new" dog! It was beyond sad to watch Zoey's little heart break as her former owner walked away without her. She whimpered and shook for almost an hour just staring out into the parking lot hoping that by some miracle the only person she ever loved would return. But sadly, it was not to be. Zoey was now homeless and in the care of a strange foster person. Little by litte Zoey adapted to her new situation and by the end of our adoption event (where Zoey was handed off), she was prancing next to her foster mom and kept an eye on her every move. She is a sweet, sweet girl and will bond tightly to whomever her caregiver is (after an initial adjustment period of mourning for her loss). The former owners don't see the emotional turmoil these dogs go thru. They don't see the look of panic when they realize they've been left behind. We in rescue have to pick up the pieces and somehow convince these dogs that they will be OK and better days are ahead. I have to say, Zoey was one of the tougher cases I witnessed. What these poor dogs go thru... Zoey is up to date with her shots and spayed. She is micropchipped and just had full blood work to ensure that she is in good shape. While she passed her blood tests with flying colors, we can't say the same thing about her teeth. So off she will go, back to the vet to have a dental procedure to clean up those pearly whites. Zoey weighs 17 pounds and is a darling girl that doesn't ask for much. She is on the quiet side and prefers to be on her own. We won't place her in a home with young kids because she just wants to relax in a less busy environment. She is a beauty and will make a very loving companion.
