When it came time to whelp, Jonathan's mom was underweight and homeless. Fortunately, a Good Samaritan spotted the family and took them to a West Virginia shelter when the newborns were 3 days old. Since the shelter had no nursery, the family was housed with the general population.
From the beginning Jonathan has been undaunted by new situations. For him they are just opportunities to widen his world. When the new puppy pan was put down for the first time, he walked right into it from one direction and left in another direction. That big hump in the middle barely slowed him down. When outdoors for the first time, he explored the limits of the fenced area and found the one spot he could squeeze into…….thinking it led to the bigger yard. When confronted with a dead end instead, he simply backed himself up about 4 feet!
