Here's what the humans have to say about me:
10/17/13: Nova Was Sold On A Street Corner At 3 Weeks Old
Nova's story is unfortunately not an uncommon one in Philadelphia and many other major cities and little towns across the country. Dogs are bred strictly to make money for the people who own them! The puppies are taken from their mother much too early in their development and sold on the streets for a quick buck. At 3 weeks of age a puppy could easily die without proper care from their mother, and Nova was one of the lucky few who had someone to intervene.
Nova was impulsively purchased on the street corner by people who quickly realized that they did not have the ability to care for her properly. Thankfully NBR was contacted for help soon after they brought her home. Today Nova is thriving thanks to her nurturing foster family. She was 6 weeks old three days ago (Nov 11). When she first arrived at her foster home she weighed only 2 pounds and could barely walk. She was covered with fleas and bloated with intestinal worms. Nova is now a wonderful happy puppy! She is up to 6.4 pounds and running with the best of them! She is eating five times a day, drinking well and playing like every puppy should. Nova has already started short intervals of clicker training which she finds to be lots of fun (as you can see in the video below), and is currently working on Sit, Down, Stay and Touch.
She has also begun proper and positive socialization with people, dogs, cats, and children. Her foster mom is making sure that Nova is familiar with a variety of objects and sounds. Nova has been to the vet for an exam and de-worming and will be returning to the doctor for follow-up inoculations and routine medical care.
Nova is available for adoption, but cannot go to her forever home until she is 8 – 10 weeks of age.
