My name is Allie!

UPDATED BIO 12/11/2013: Allie is a super sweet 7 year old Yorkie who found herself at the local pound, dumped there by her former person. She has a growth removed from her nose which was benign, and it has completely healed.

Allie has lost a bit of weight and now weighs a bit less than 11 lbs. She still needs to lose at least 1.5 more - optimally 2 or 3. She loves to go on little walks, but can't walk too far in the heat with her weight. She is on a calorie reduced diet, and her new home will have to understand that overfeeding her is not in her best interest.

Allie continues to win the hearts of everyone she meets! She has such a cute personality and is so outgoing, you can't help but want to pick her up and hug her! She likes to play with her little toys and is very patient in putting up with getting jumped all over by her foster sister.

Allie is completely house trained (rare to find in a Yorkie!) She does have a flea allergy, and will chew on herself if she does get fleas, so her new owner will have to be careful to make sure she stays flea free. She also is a little snorer, but her snoring is decreasing with her weight loss - although we are not sure she will ever not snore.

UPDATED BIO 11/04/2013: Allie is a super sweet 7 year old Yorkie who found herself at the local pound, dumped their by her former person. Because she had a growth on her face, she was deemed unadoptable and had to go to rescue. The growth was removed and turned out to be benign. The vet did an excellent job removing it, and we expect in time with her fur growing back, no one will ever be able to see anything was removed.



Allie has turned out to be exceptionally sweet, friendly and loving. She reminds us of Winnie the Poo! She is runs up to everyone she sees, and rolls over for belly rubs. She has never met a dog she didn't consider a friend, nor a person that is a stranger. She is fully house trained, and barks if she needs to go out. Unfortunately, Allie is very overweight and out of shape. She should weigh about 8 or 9 pounds, but currently weighs 12 pounds. She has been on a strict diet, and gets walked daily, although walking too much in the Florida heat is challenging for her. She has lost a bit of weight, which we are excited about, but still has to lost a couple of more pounds yet. Despite her weight, she is very playful and does have a lot of enthusiasm.



Allies ideal home would be with someone who understands that overfeeding a dog does more harm than it does good, and understands she needs to be kept at a proper weight. She can go with older, gentle children, and doesn't care whether she shares her house with other animals or not.



UPDATED BIO 10/04/2013 - Good news! The biopsy from the tumor that was removed from Allie is not cancer! It is a benign basal cell tumor called Trichoblastoma, which is basically a follicular germ cell. The biopsy determined that the surgical removal was clean and complete, so it should not be growing back. We are very happy to hear this!



Allie is proving to be an extremely sweet, playful and loving dog. She is very easy, house trained, has great manners and a joy. She is also proving to be a finicky eater and will only eat the chicken that is mixed in with her food. However, at this point, we are not terribly worried about it since she still needs to lose 4-5 lbs.

INITIAL BIO 9/27/13: MEET ALLIE! Allie is a 7 1/2 year old spayed 12.4 lb (obese, should be 8-9 lbs to be a healthier weight)Yorkie girlie; she is being fostered in West Palm Beach, FL.



Allie was surrendered to a high-kill shelter by her owners. Allie's only hope of survival was if UYR agreed to take her in as she has a growth on her lip, and was not considered adoptable by the shelter. Allie was so happy to be out of her cage, she pranced and said 'hello' to everyone she saw at the shelter, and continued her happy dance right at the vet's office where she was immediately taken.



The vet determined that the growth on her lip was not oral cancer as was feared. However, she thinks it might be a cancerous mass and does need to be removed. The vet felt confident that if she gets all of the mass and surrounding healthy tissue, Allie won't need any further surgeries, and that her problem will be resolved. Allie also has teeth which clearly have been neglected, so on Monday, September 30th, she will have both a dental and the mass removed. We expect there to be a little disfigurement, but not too much, and it won't have an impact on her ability to eat.



Since we've mentioned ability to eat, you might notice that Allie is obese at 14 lbs - more than a little overweight. Her foster mom feels a good weight for her would be 8 or 9 pounds ~ and if she remained at 14 lbs she would most assuredly have health issues in the future. Allie is on a restricted diet in her foster home, and a light exercise routine, so we hope those pounds will be melting off in no time at all! She is proving to be extremely friendly, happy and outgoing; Allie has no issues with the other animals in the house and also seems to be house-trained. Wahooo!
