Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Hi, my name is Marzipan and I am a toilet-paper unroller. It has been 48 hours since I last unrolled some (not that I am cured, but my foster-human isn’t letting me in that room).
I am also one of Beagle Rescue League’s Lab-To-Leash dogs.
I am a small beagle girl, 11-months old (as of September) and I am looking for my forever home. I am dog-friendly, kid-friendly and cat-neutral (OK, I am a little curious, but I am scared since one of the cats here at my foster-home hissed at me, all I was trying to do was sniff, honest!).
I LOVE to play with other dogs as long as they’re not too rough or too loud, I don’t care about them being a lot bigger than I am. I am not the best at getting “doggie language”, sometimes when another dog wants to be left alone I don’t listen to their warnings, then get my feelings hurt when they correct me, but I bounce back quickly.
I am pretty good at entertaining myself, too. I inspect the yard looking for “treasures” (bones, nylabones, sticks, balls, Kongs) and then chew on them or throw them for myself and chase them. My foster-human thinks it is very cute.
My house-training is coming along really well, I will eliminate outside, but it is up to my foster-human to get me outside, I don’t ask yet, although I will sometimes ask to come in by standing up at the door.
I LOOOVE to snuggle, I am a true laboratory-retiree in that aspect. When picked up I just “melt” into you. There were some workers in the house and that’s the first my foster-human got to see me with men (I’ve only been here a few weeks, and that includes time at the vet to be spayed), and when one of them picked me up I just snuggled in.
I don’t mind doorways anymore, I wasn’t too sure I was allowed to go through them at first, but now I trot right through (if I want to). I have not gone up or down a full flight of steps, but I do just fine on the 4-steps up to the porch and the step from the kitchen to the living room doesn’t even make me hesitate.
I sometimes startle at new noises (loud ones), but once I see nothing scary is happening, I settle back into whatever I was doing.
I ride in the car without drooling or getting sick, my foster-human was very happy to learn that since, I am told, lots of laboratory-retirees have a problem with cars, but I don’t mind them, although if not crated or tethered I will want to try to help you drive.
So, if you think I might make a good family member, contact BRL by reviewing adoption requirements and submitting in an application at: http://www.beaglerescueleague.org/adoption
