Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Updated bio 12-15-14 Sailor is approximately 9 years old and is an adorable but very timid 5 pound little Yorkie. He is being fostered in Palm Coast, FL.
Although he gets along with other pups in the household, Sailor has become the Alpha dog and lets the other dogs know he is in charge. Sailor has a very sensitive stomach and cannot have beef or chicken. He does well on Blue Buffalo Fish and Brown rice for Small Breeds kibble.
Due to his obvious lack of care in the past he had to have most of his teeth removed, and now his little tongue hangs out one side of his mouth, which just makes him even cuter. Sailor has suffered several seizures since being in foster care. There is no apparent "trigger" for these seizures and the vet feels no medication is needed unless they begin to get closer together. Sailor does not take to men as well as he does women. He tolerates men, but prefers a woman to be his primary caregiver. His forever home would absolutely require a female in the home!
If he has a chance to run out the door, he will, and he’s very fast with those long legs. Boy can he run ~ he may have been a Greyhound in his previous life! He continues to be a work in progress as far as housebreaking and because he likes to mark indoors he will have to wear a bellyband for the rest of his life. Since he has no teeth, he is a slow eater so his Foster Mom feeds him away from his fur brother and sisters so they can't take his food from him. He looks forward to mealtime and does love to eat! Sailor is very fearful of loud noises and will run to another room in fear from another dog barking or other loud noises. This includes thunder. Even with a Thundershirt on Sailor shakes all over during a thunderstorm and wants to be held tightly until the thunder subside.
Below are some requirements for what would be the perfect home environment for Sailor:
- A home with either a single woman or a couple – Sailor definitely prefers women more than men. Sailor must have a *full-time stay at home mommy because he suffers from severe separation anxiety when left alone.
- A home that understands that Sailor is a very, very sweet little boy, but also very timid, so a calm quiet home would be perfect. He is fearful of loud noises and thunder and lightning (he wears a Thundershirt during thunder storms to help with his fear) and wants to be held tightly during a storm. He is also very fearful of fireworks and loud barking from other dogs.
NO CHILDREN PLEASE!
- A home where Sailor could just cuddle up next to you all day long; he also likes to sleep right next to his human at night, so move over and make room in your bed for Sailor!
- A home where there is stay at home mommy that can stay at home with him all day long and just give him belly rubs and snuggles.
- A home where Sailor will have a female playmate around his age and size, as he has begun to show dominance to other males in the house.
- A home with a big fenced-in yard since he loves, loves, loves to run and has discovered his love of chasing after squirrels and lizards.
Sailor has been waiting a long time for his forever home. Could you be his perfect family?
Update 10/20/14: Sailor is approximately 8 years old and is an adorable but very timid little Yorkie being fostered in Palm Coast, FL. Although he gets along with other pups in the household, he has become the Alpha dog and lets the other dogs know he is in charge. Foster mom is working on correcting this behavior. He does have a very sensitive stomach and cannot have beef or chicken. He does well on Blue Buffalo fish and brown rice. Due to his obvious lack of care in the past he has had to have most of his teeth removed and now his little tongue hangs out one side of his mouth which just makes him even cuter.
