My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Brett was the result of an unplanned pregnancy between a purebred Walker Coonhound and an unknown father. The owner of the coonhound mother planned to kill the mixed breed puppies after they were born. Gran & Co. Rescue intervened and asked the owner to allow the mother dog to raise her babies and give us the opportunity to find homes for them. We are estimating their birthdays as about July 1, 2013. At six weeks, Brett and his 11 brothers left their mother and went to foster care with Gran & Co. on a farm in Kentucky. At the farm they have had interactions with cats, other dogs, humans of all shapes and sizes, and children. Brett and his siblings love everyone of every species that they meet. They are sweet, socialized, affectionate dogs. Brett is a playful little ball of energy who loves as enthusiastically as he romps! We expect that he'll be about 60 pounds when full grown. He will be neutered, will have had three sets of puppy vaccinations (for parvo, distemper, kennel cough and hepatitis), his kennel cough vaccine, be dewormed and started on heart worm prevention before going to his forever home. Dixie Pet Underground is assisting Gran & Co. Rescue in finding forever homes for the puppies. They will be ready for forever homes on Sept. 28. If you think Brett might be the right dog for you, please email today for an adoption application!

Please, you MUST visit the following link BEFORE emailing for further information. If you'd like to find out more information about our adoption procedure or to apply for this dog visit http://www.poochesonthemove.net/dixie-pet-underground.html

Or e-mail adoptions@dixiepetunderground.org to request an adoption application, or visit our website at www.dixiepetunderground.org.

Once we receive your complete application, an adoption counselor will call you within 48 hours of receipt of the application. During the adoption interview, the adoption counselor will tell you more about the puppy and our adoption processes, as well as answer any questions you have.

Dogs and puppies are up-to-date on their vaccinations, spayed/neutered, de-wormed, treated for fleas/ticks and heartworm negative before leaving rescue. You will receive complete medical records for your dog or puppy at the time of adoption.

The adoption fee is $450 and covers the cost of all veterinary care and transportation to your area.

Our dogs and puppies are delivered via a USDA-certified van transport and receive an Interstate Health Certificate -- issue by a licensed, accredited veterinarian -- no more than 10 days before the dog or puppy leaves rescue.

All of our dogs and puppies come into rescue from the "death row" of animal shelters in the south, or are owner surrenders or strays who were "pound bound" before coming into rescue. Adopting a dog or puppy from the Dixie Pet Underground Railroad means you are truly part of a partnership to save the life of the dog or puppy that you welcome into your family.

Our dogs and puppies are fostered at our rescue in Tennessee, meaning that it isn't possible to meet the dog or puppy before adoption. Our adoption counselor works with you to do everything possible to ensure that there is a good match between the family and the dog. We have had several hundred dogs adopted using this process and most of the time, it results in happy puppies and happy people.

If for any reason an adoption is not successful, the Dixie Pet Underground Railroad will work with the adopter to find the best possible solution for the dog and the adopting family.

We can provide contact information for adopters in your area who can tell you about their experience partnering with the Underground Railroad to save the life of a dog and make the animal a part of their family.

We look forward to hearing from you and working with you to find the right dog for your family!
