Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Shadow is a beautiful bi-color German Shepherd. She's ~ 2 years of age and weighs 71 pounds. Shadow was rescued from BJC Animal Control in Birmingham in February 2013. Her history prior to coming into rescue is not known. She shows no signs of having been mistreated, however she is shy in new situations.
Shadow bonds quickly and craves human contact. Sometimes she'll just walk up to a person and put her head in their lap and gaze into their eyes. She wants nothing more than to be loved. Shadow does best with other male dogs. She passed the cat test by walking away and ignoring Jewels the vet's in-house cat. She rides well in a car and is accustomed to being kenneled or crated.
Upon coming into our rescue she had the usual health issues shelter dogs have. She was very underweight, had intestinal worms, kennel cough and was treated for giardia. Soon after she was spayed, Shadow developed an acute kidney episode requiring hospitalization, medication and a special renal diet. As of May 20, 2013 her blood work is normal and she appears to have fully recovered. She is heartworm negative.
GSRCA needs a foster home for Shadow. If you are interested, please fill out the online application and contact gsrca_cw@yahoo.com (The application fee of $25 is waived for foster home applications). Fostering is a short term commitment which allows one to help a previously discarded dog find the home he is best suited for. A foster home provides a safe environment, love, socialization, good food, monthly heartworm prevention and flea prevention if needed. It's a great feeling to help a dog in need!
