My basic info
Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Bessie was left with us when we bought our farm in Odessa in April of 1012. She is a Berkshire hog, and was 1 of 2 or 3 hogs that this family had. They were not actual farmers, as they owned a landscape company, but bought her in order to mate her. They actually researched and i believe did mate her once, as we have a large Bessie home, and a smaller gated area that appears to be where the babies were kept. They mated her by artificial insemination, and they did leave me with the necessary tools, as I thought I would like to try to raise baby pigs with my kids. Bessie is approx 400 lbs, of sweetness, love, and fun. She understands commands, is very gentle, and we have put her and our 150lb potbelly together to play often. She has been exposed to my dogs, and the neighbors cows run lose outside her pen daily. Unfortnately, the economy has been so troubled and the natural disasters been so plentiful that as a dog rescue, I must concentrate on the dogs, and the abnormal rise of stranded cats that has occurred. I need the room for the animals I am trained to save, and along with having two boys 9 and 6, just do not have the time to spend with Bessie or my adorable potbelly pig porkchop. I definitely dont have the time or resources to fertilize bessie and raise little hogs. Bessie deserves to be in a home with people who either have an existing farm, are starting one, or just want to raise a hog and possible mate her. She is NOT!!!!!!!!!! a hog to be slaughtered. She is 1. too old to be slaughtered, but the perfect age to be bred, and 2. Will not go to any home that i think will slaughter her. She is up for adoption, to any home that can provide her with the love and care that she needs. She is great with kids, she is gentle, and will do well anywhere. She is so low maintenance, gets fed once daily, and has her hay changed every three weeks. we have a mister for her which youmay need, but other than that, she is the only non demanding pet we have. We are not selling Bessie, as we are The Underdog Foundation 5013c Rescue. Donations are what we live on. As big or small as anyone can afford is fine with us. We live in Odessa, and anyone interested in her, must have a way to transport her. we do not have a trailer. 4H programs, schools, or other young american farmers are absolutely encouraged to contact me. As you will see enext, we also have a pot belly pig named porkchop, up for adoption. They are great friends, and i would love to see them go to a new home together.
