My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

**URGENT** - Courtesy Post

This is Mitzy, she is extremely urgent!

Mitzy's story is a very sad one, she was found on April 15th abandoned in a swamp-area near a bridge with a big tub full of dog food, about two-three weeks worth! And an empty bowl. She was so incredibly matted it was unbelievable. Her tail was completely matted to her leg, she was very afraid of everyone and everything and wouldn't allow anyone near her for the first few days. My mom and another one of the workers at the shelter shaved Mitzy's entire body, the moment her tail was freed, she began to wag it!

Mitzy could hardly walk when she was found and was extremely overweight. The shelter has put her on a diet and she is doing better, slowly losing weight but still has more to lose. We guess that Mitzy is about 12 years old, her breed is unknown but we can only guess she may be a Golden Retriever mixed with perhaps a Collie or German Shepherd. It's hard to say, her coat is slowly growing back in and I believe she'll be a medium-long haired dog.

Mitzy isn't very tall but she is a large dog. She loves to lay in her outside kennel, her favourite place is on her large kuranda bed! Mitzy is a very friendly dog and is very sweet. She needs a rescue as soon as possible as there has been discussion of her being put to sleep. Mitzy is looking for a calm, quiet adult-only place to spend the last months or years of her life in peace. It breaks my heart to think of all that she's been through. We believe she is spayed as she hasn't come into heat since being at the shelter and her vaccines have recently been updated.

Mitzy spends most of her day sleeping happily. She does appear to have some sight issues and needs to be woken gently or else she becomes confused and spooked if woken suddenly. I generally call her name her a few times until she recognizes who it is. I do believe Mitzy would prefer to be the only dog in her foster or forever home. I'm unsure how she would be around cats. Mitzy loves the outdoors!
